What Shortages are You Seeing?

Went to the grocery store this afternoon. Pretty much everything has been replenished now after the storm. The only empty shelves were things that had really good sales - store brand potato chips were 2 for $5 for the big bags and they were out. But everything else was available. Eggs went up again - this store only has "large" eggs and they were $4.29...

Last week there were 18 boxes, each containing 5 dz. eggs. This week not a single egg. I should take two eggs in, put them in the display case, and label them $15.
Up till now 5 dozen boxes of eggs were $9 at Walmart and they always had them.
Now no 5 dozen boxes at Walmart and the listed price was $20 with a 2 box limit.
Safeway did have the 5 dozen box for $14.

This is a Safeway store I reported on. Sorry I didn't mention that.

I was shopping for our New Years meal. I found collard greens at the 4th grocery store I went to. Finding collard greens for New Years is a challenge every year.

I got everything else: cubed steak for smothered steak, pork roast for black-eyed peas. Have the black eyed peas, corn bread mix, rice. I'm thinking sweet potato pie for dessert.

Not sure where the egg shortages are. Down here in the red states, there's lots of eggs. As many as you want, large free range for $3 a dozen .

Everything was a little sparse yesterday such as fresh fruit and veg- but we are in the middle of several bank hols at the minute. No cat litter though, and it's been an ongoing thing for the past two years. I noticed Tesco had squished all the leftover Christmas chocs into half an aisle and put it on sale, and filled the few empty aisles with unaffordable 'healthy' foods.

The wife went to Three Bears, our closest store, and saw that they only sold eggs in a six pac for $4.49. She heard that the store was buying eggs in large packs and breaking them down into small packages.

Happy to report on my non-shopping mooch around yesterday there were no gaps or shortages, though there seems to be lots of people shopping 🤔 the sales are still on here. I did notice none of the 'posh' expensive boutiques in our small town have closed down, which I thought they would after lockdowns. Someone still has money!

Went shopping at the grocery store yesterday. We went into the aisle with the glass cases, looking at the price of eggs. We saw 2 of the 3 racks completely empty, and just the top row (containing egg substitutes) and the floor rack had a limited number of eggs. Most were $9 a dozen. I really felt that this was too outrageous to pay for and as we stared through the glass case, the manager walked by and asked if we needed help. I just looked back at him, as if we were looking at diamonds at a jewelry store, and said, "No thank you, we are just window shopping!"

I went grocery shopping today, chicken was very limited. I was able to get everything I needed so I can't complain too much.

I wanted to replace the refried beans that we used last week, but the only ones they had were vegan? I'll just wait till I'm in W-M again to get that, we don't normally use the store bought cans, but they helped us cut some time corners last time I used them.

Eggs were available and just $5/dozen (Imagine saying JUST!)...

In the end I bought 3 bags of groceries and it was still $125.

To continue the rant from above, I went to the bread aisle, and half the row was empty. There were no bread rolls at all. I went to the meat case and their only special was $4.99 a pound for pork chops. Rib eyes (select, not choice) was $18.99. A small bag of cut up celery was $4.99, so we bought a head of celery for $1,99, and will cut it up ourselves. I saw the toilet paper aisle had only their name brand TP, which I will not use. I went into the cheese case, and saw those small 4 ounce cheese spread "Borskins" were $8.99 a piece. I was only drawn to this cheese spread because just last Saturday, I purchased a 3 pack of the "Borskins" for $9.99 at Costco. This is really scary. I honestly feel we are changing into a 3rd World Country where bread and water is the menu of the day.

Much faster than many people realize

Food secuity by country.

The green nations will always have food (barring EMP/nuclear conflict), even if it does get expensive.

(This is from Peter Zeihan's book, "The End of the World is Just Beginning." I haven't read the book, but I gather that the title is somewhat inflamatory, to generate sales. He doesn't think the world is ending. He just thinks globalism and global markets are ending, and countries will be returning to more regional markets, and countries which are net exporters will have less difficulty. He believes that globalism was supported by the US Treasury and the US Navy for the most part, and he believes both are pulling back, and the globalism that has occurred will not be sustained without a superpower benefactor.)

It's too windy here for beach balls!! And then there are the fake ones the guys hang from their truck hitches!!🙄🙄🙄 Gross and stupid! Like girls are going to leave their phone numbers on your windshield because they see you have fake rubber testicles hanging from the back of your bumper!!😉🙄🙄

When I collected daughter decided to pop into supermarket to get extra milk and tortilla wraps (sauteed chard from the garden, our own eggs scrambled in, a dash of pepper and a wrap popped on top to warm makes a good no-wash-up breakfast made on the pot belly) as we are under a weather warning from Monday. Not too worried about it but didn't want to face the mob tomorrow, and don't have to go anywhere until Wed now. Very surprised to see how many people were shopping, and daughter said the cafe was incredibly busy today. What recession? 🤔
