Hello everyone and been a bit absent of late but we are fine and just been busy with medical appointments and the like and catching up with much needed little jobs around the home :) .

DH has spoken to the neurosurgeon and they have identified 2 brain aneurysms from the angiograms and want a second more detailed one before operating on him to see if he has more. We are heading down for that on August 13 and will stay a few days in RSL subsidised accommodation of $20 per person per night including meals. No matter how many aneurysms they find they will clip the lot on the one surgery. So far there is one that is 5 - 6 mm and the second 3 mm or slightly larger.

On to what we did yesterday is that after selling our bottle trees for a neat $1500 cash to a stranger that just dropped in and knocked at our door, and them removing them, we had room and loose soil to plant our potted lemon and Washington navel trees into the ground.

Also yesterday we fixed up a split grey water hose and put in a joiner and a t-piece so we can water two fruit and berry trees at the same time and replaced a storm water 90 o angle piece on the roof where the rainwater was leaking through the cracked join.

Round 1 of today so far we have both done a load of laundry and hung it on the clothes line to dry and I have put on a loaf of bread to bake in the bread making machine.

Here is pictures of our fruit trees planted -

Best to your husband on his health and upcoming surgery.

I wish we could grow citrus here. We can do potted indoors, but there is a limit on how large those can grow. I have noticed that citrus that I start from seed grows really slowly.

Walked first thing this morning, then did my monthly stock up a day early to avoid the crowds. I think it worked pretty well. Only thing I couldn't find was jars. No cases of jars anywhere. Finally found 8 jars at a thrift store for a good price. I did get more lids and sure gel.

Don't have much on my list today for afternoon. Pick figs and tomatoes, maybe jalapenos.

I had to google your bottle trees, neat looking. How do you dig one up? or are your trees small?

A quiet day here... except for my spice rack. Late last night it fell off the wall. I got up, saw the mess and went back to bed.

3 bottles broke, couple more opened. I had cinnamon, cayenne, Old Bay seasoning and Colemans mustard powder everywhere, talk about a mess! I bet I'll be sneezing every time I run my vacuum cleaner for months.

Today I re-mounted the rack on the wall, used gorilla glue this time. As soon as it's good and dry I can put all my spices back, clean the kitchen counter and all the items that were on it... clean some more... Then I get to mop the floor.

Other than that... just resting.

We picked figs again today too ,first time in a couple years they produced, thought that tree was a goner. But we have gotten alot of figs off it this week.

For any of y’all who don’t like your weather, come on over to sunshine and 107*. It’s 7:30 here now and is down to 105*.
According to my little magic phone that predicts the weather, we have 3 more days of it so plenty of time to get here and enjoy the roasting 🥵

No thanks.
That was me a week ago.
And I'm sure I'll be slow roasting, basted in sweat soon enough.
But thanks for the offer though.

Resting mostly.

Helped canning more pasta sauce, we just reached 62 pints. Wife wants to go pickup another 25 lbs tommorow , and canning about another 18 pints.

Picked and blanched and put 4 pints of peas in freezer.

Went and watched the mutt run and swim.

Trimmed low hanging branches off plum trees , so we can mow around them.

Tried to watch TV..sucks.

Got the ac in the car fixed, $75, drove into the city for that, worth driving a half hour, 100 degrees. Not sure how I made it through driving in the heat like that.
Something about the ac fuse wiring and a reminder that before next summer he can replace the whole thing (condenser, compressor, and something else) and quoted me a very decent price.
I hear thunder.
We don't have kittens.

So, your kittens got picked up? We are in the market for some barn kitties. The kids saw one cat while we were gone, fed it bologna, and I haven't seen it since.
Got the kids registered for school. The Elementary School K-8 was a trip. They did a dance when they saw a new student enrolling. Guess enrollment is in the low 60's. Our own private school was that size. Didn't like the librarian, and little granddaughter was anxious to meet her and see her books because she loves to read. All she talked about was computer learning. Little Granddaughter told her she knows how to use a computer, but we don't do much of that at home because too much screen time is bad. Then the lady said that the Amish don't like tech, either, and made a face. The office admin knew who we were, so cut in the conversation before it got too snarky. Said she was mad at my cousin for pulling out her kids. Told her they were at Whispering Pines school, and doing great, and that it is a very good school. It's an Amish school, so she didn't know what to say. Pushing free lunch and free services that we passed on, but were asked about 4 times. High School registration for the twins went well. They have alot of good offerings for an under 200 student school. Granddaughter is excited for auto shop, and by her senior year, she can get a certification. Grandson excited about welding, and he'll also be certified by senior year. They also chose band, and the regular classes. Marching band 1/2 day summer practice starts next week. They'll have a chance to meet a few kids before school starts 8/27.

That sounds great. Band is way too early. I'm sure they'll do fine and I hope everything is a little more normal there.
Kittens, what kittens? Lol. Maybe they'll go to the foster home "tomorrow". I think they'd give our old snooty cat a gripe of a time. She'd give them a real smack down. And the dog, ugh, no, I think it's best they go. They have really warmed up to us. The one has front paws with extra toes, looks like mittens. They have to be "in quarantine", the cat rescue place says, two weeks. I think they're healthy.

Yesterday Dawn and I spent most of the day goofing off by going to the Minidoka County Fair. I was a bit worried because She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed would want to pick up a couple more Nigerian Dwarf goats. Fortunately, no more goats (yet) but we have been talking about getting a pig!

Idaho Pasture Pigs (IPP's) are a smaller pig bred from New Zealand kunekune swine. Like the name says they are not confinement swine, but can live well in a pasture. They have upturned snouts, so they actually graze on the pasture instead of rooting. We have a ~¾ acre fenced pasture which I think will hold them, although I'd have to talk to the breeder to make sure.

Later today, we're thinking about driving up to Rigby, near the Wyoming border, to visit the breeder and find out if the IPP would make sense for us.

Makes you wonder how people survived it before late 1970s,huh? Van belt was sqealing so we never turned on AC, made a 2 hour trip to beach without AC knowing we couldn't use it seemed to help.Spoiled dogs missed it more than we did.But then we never keep house below 80.And outside alot.

Been out in the Safe Shed topping off the battery bank. Took 3 fall nsof distilled water for 8 batteries.

Gonna be leaving shortly to pick up more tomatoes for making 3 more batches of sauce.

Then late lunch .

Then ????

Jim

You should be good fro sauce for awhile .We haven't canned rtomatoes in about 6 years now.Just buy cans. But we uusally have some we grow.

I finally got hold of those vines on fence near greenhouse I foolishly planted thinking they were muscadine .Had little spiders crawling on me for awhile.

Walked this morning and picked up prescription on the way, then paid bills and did month ending books.
Will do DH's meds for the next 2 weeks, call VA for him and make salads for the next couple of days. Must sweep house today.

Will cut okra, pick figs and jalapenos. And cut up some cheese for dog treats. Hope that is about it!

Have a good weekend everyone!

I have a "Skype" work call this morning. Afterward, I am determined to finish cleaning out the chicken coop. When winter hits, in a couple of months, there will be 21 birds who will be spending a lot of time indoors, so I would like to have it as nice and clean and fresh as possible by then. Today will be finishing up raking out the old litter and hopefully pulling down the plexiglass that was up for winter, so they can get some nice breezes for now. I am going to replace the plexiglass with heavy clear plastic sheeting this winter. Easier to deal with and doesn't crack as readily when you manipulate it. Cheap enough to replace every year, if need be.

I envy the h.s. grands being able to take auto shop and welding. I think it is absolutely wonderful for them to be able to learn these skills.
Husband's birthday today, so he can do whatever he wants to do. Not sure what that is yet. Phone ringing at 2:15 am woke us up. It was the post office in the neighboring town saying baby chicks have arrived.
Yay for the chicks arriving! Please tell the Mr. "Happy Birthday" from me.

Cheese for dog treats? Oh those lucky dogs!
Have a greaat weekend, snappy1!

I start a house sitting job tomorrow through Wednesday. I am working on getting ready to go, making sure all the indoor plants are watered, everything cleaned up and tidy. I will come home a couple times to water and check on the house.

I was at the hardware store yesterday. They have had bins with a few onion starts in them. I grabbed one, white onions, and asked how much they were. Free! I grabbed two more bundles, another white and one of red onions. It is late for them to go in, but they can stay in the ground over winter and be harvested as needed. Going to work on getting them planted today.

At different times throughout the day, they get dried sweet potato slices, cheese bits, apple chopped, chicken bites and baby carrots. Always trying to keep them from chemicals and preservatives because of Peanut's seizures. Doing well lately!

Here is the sieve I keep on the porch for working with all my potted plants. It's great for busting up clumps of soil or separating soil from plant roots in the fall.

I have 5 different sizes, different size wire mesh. If you look close at the 2nd pic you'll see screws on the inside ring that hold the mesh down. When the wire mesh wears out it can be replaced. The housing that sits in the bucket is heavy duty and can be used for many years. So the $25 price isn't a bad deal, you're really paying for the heavy duty housing, the screen wire is cheap.

Last night I went to bed thinking I would be driving to Memphis today... Wrong... Dad has a hearing specialist AND a hearing Aid specialist. One is in Memphis, the other isn't... So my drive today was only 2.5 hours round trip instead of 6 hours. Dad got his hearing aid fixed. He can no longer get away with ignoring mom. View attachment 47268

Anyway, back home safely... on the way up driving through a little town I saw an old guy selling watermelons out the back of his truck. I thought I recognized him. I was right. I stopped on the way back and bought 2 yellow meat watermelons. This guy used to sell at the farmers market when I did. He was a nice old guy, even gave me a deal on 2 watermelons for old times sake.

I ordered one of these this morning. Thank you, Peanut. This is something I could have used almost 30 years ago.

If he has math skills and a welding cert. send him on out :) Finding "fabricators" is a chore. There is a demand for skilled labor and money to be made. We offer $2/hr more for certified welders over non-certified. The guys know that and 2 won't spend the energy to go get certified - crazy! Certified welders who can't read a tape measure are plentiful and don't last more than a couple weeks. If it's something he truly does have an interest in, let him know that once he gets the welding portion down, practice welding in awkward positions (reaching off to the left, etc.) and practice different sized welds (1/4", 3/8") as specifications often require such things - will put him a step above entering the job market. Sorry for the long winded response, but this is what we do.

The good news is it is supposed to be back below 100* by sunset. Last night, it was still 98* when I went to bed - yuk!

They are handy... A lot of gold prospectors have them. They are light to carry and prefect for dry panning or dry washing in rough country when you have to carry all your gear for miles. Just put them on a bucket and shovel the dirt and gravel onto the sieve/screen. makes it easy to get rid of the big pieces and bust up clumps. I usually carried 2, the one in the pic and one much finer.

Hey! I was certified in 1978, built train cars for Pullman std, box cars, hopper cars, tankers etc... Does that count?

just teasing... the days of sitting at home with slices of potatoes on my eyes are long behind me.

Welding hoods have come a ways since then. Hubby has self-darkening and prescription lenses for his hood. They cost a bit more, but eyes are worth it. Ears aren't far behind.
