Greatest ever sheep moles....... erm Aussie expert has to be the brilliant Maj (ret) Les Hiddins better known as the Bush tucker man... So good he is respected by the SAS as one of the best.

Bear Grylls and Ray Mears rate him among the very best.

That could be, I have read his books though his writings came way after my youth, Graves and Lindsay were very influential with me along with Kephart and Beard.

What I reckon Major Hiddins GREATEST contribution to survival was insanely simple. British and Commonwealth maps are printed on high quality paper in a grid system what Maj Hiddens realised that the maps were only printed on one side. So what he did was the identify and record in images and text everything edible flora and fauna and useful in the area covered by each map and printed it on the back. So if you were in XXXX County all of the edible, medicinal and other useful items native to that area were shown on the back of the map. Map and survival guide in one.

And that is brilliant! though even today cartographers don't put that kind of information on maps even many survival maps won't have that information. I've seen many foraging maps that tell you what in the area but offers no detail. I wish map makers offered that kind of detail info.

After watching and reading all the responses a little devil's advocate... IF something bad happened close to you and you had 15 minutes to leave, what would you look like and what would you take ? Is it not entirely possible you would look similar ? Is he the only over weight prepper ? is he the only young and dumb prepper ? In the event of a nuke being used in your area, would you take Mom or Dad who could not go far ? Would they even want to ? Would you leave them if they did not want to go ? or would you stay and die also ? videos like this may be totally bogus, he may be making fun of all preppers ? If I ever made a video about prepping it would be so bad you would think how do I live when things are normal....not that this was his intentions, but I have seen worse videos....

He lacks a mentor. I feel pity for him, and some compassion. It used to be that a man passed on his skills, and his knowledge, to his children or even an apprentice if the man was in a skilled trade.

I know the old guys at the Steel Mill were not kind to me, but I ended up making a lot of money travelling around the country welding, because they were harsh and wouldn't let me get away with poor quality work.

Useful skills used to be passed from generation to generation, man to man, woman to woman. I don't see that so much anymore, my generation, X, dropped the ball somehow. One of my sons wants to know how to do things, he is easy to teach because he cares to learn. The other son, not so much, and it is difficult to get him interested, its a real challenge.

Where is the grown man to smack that kid upside his head, and tell him he looks a fool? Maybe this stuff happens because as a society we aren't allowed to be "cruel" anymore. No one able or willing to say "Hey *******, put down the limb saw spear and have a beer and listen to what I'm telling you. It's simple, and it could save your life and maybe your Mom's." Or maybe someone is trying to do that, and the kid isn't listening.

My Dad had no patience, None Whatsoever, and I learned nothing from him. To this day I don't even know if he had anything to teach! Maybe I should ask him before its too late? I don't know.

My friends Dad taught a bunch of us kids everything, how to farm, how to garden, how to make maple syrup and shoot guns and drive tractors and work on cars. He would watch you make mistakes and break stuff and he never got mad, or TOOK TOOLS OUT OF OUR HANDS. If you got hurt, well suck it up, you will know better next time. He has passed recently, and he is sorely missed. He openly spoke to us, even as kids, that it was naturally his job to teach us, but it was never arrogant. He drank a lot, lol, and had a bit of a criminal history, but good or bad I learned a lot from him.

This kid in the first video lacks that in his life. It's a shame, really. He obviously wants to be something.

Im hoping it’s just a pun video but given the current crop of kids out their in this o’l world I’m not sure it’s all that different from the mentality we see today. As far kicking the elderly parents to the curb or even very sick child or wife that’s going to be a choice some people are going to make and live with. Let’s just hope to God we never have to face that decision. I’ll just end my thinking with this; on the battlefield it was never an option to leave a brother on the field even at our own demise.
