I keep hearing that wood prices have gone down, they haven't here. Two years ago, an 8ft 1x12 was around $14-$15. Now they are around $28. Can't really afford to build anything in my shop. I was selling children's rocking chairs for $50, had about $25 in them. Now I would have around $40 in them.

I will pass a " warning " to our members . This prediction is not originally mine but makes sense to me . As a retired professional wildland firefighter having fought " many thousands " of wildfires and having watched how the folks in California seem to be completely incompetent in the field of fighting woodland wildfires , am expecting the fires to ravage the land until it rains . -- The point that I am making is after the fires finally have run their course the next catastrophe will be lumber prices . The rich will be buying up nearly all the lumber to rebuild their million's of dollars mansions . The rest of the United States will be left in a lumber desert . -- If you have a project coming up requiring lumber , you may want to get the wood materials before the fires burn out .
