On Sunday, we were visiting our son in NC and on the way out of town, we ate with him at a restaurant called Cracker Barrel (great chicken and dumplings at this place!) when I got a text telling me about the decision to allow Ukraine to launch ATACMS into Russia. We ate a little faster and then hit the road for home.
Meanwhile, back at home, a half dozen families heard the same news, and decided better safe than sorry and so moved into their pods inside the facility. All but two families headed home this afternoon, so hopefully we won't hear more "tough talk" from Russian generals about expected reprisals etc. As others have said, Putin will probably just wait out these two months, rather than escalate to something irreversible.
Back to our drive home, I couldn't help but have the bizarre thought "what if nukes fly and we get stuck somewhere on the way home?" I was so glad I had stuffed one jacket pocket with grape and strawberry jam packets from the table AND stuffed 4 of those big fluffy soft biscuits (a refill) into a napkin and into my wife's pocketbook!! At least we'd die happy! A normal person's thought, right??
