Bonus content: the possibility of a Nuclear war

This is sound information. They recommend having supplies for at least two weeks, which is a vast improvement over the 72 hour kit. After two weeks most of the radiation danger from a nuclear explosion will have decayed down to a safe level.

Sorry, but this part made me laugh out loud: Stay updated on global affairs and geopolitical tensions through reliable news sources. That is an oxymoron if there ever was one. Good luck finding a reliable news source.

Any requests for the next topic?
In graphic detail, what is it like to die of dehydration, knowing you have seven months & nineteen days of food when the "magic" water fairy shuts off supply to your spicket? Of the ways to die is dehydration a fairly pleasant way relatively speaking.

Assume the duration of what caused the water to stop flowing is seventeen months & twenty-three days.

I will gladly compose a report on dehydration and any other topic requested by the wonderful individuals seeking information that I'm able to find.

If you compose it, I will PDF it and put it in the reference area!
I'll do the same for anybody else who can't make one, just be sure your name gets on it!

I am now primarily creating writeups in PDF format, unless someone specifically asks for them in a more extended form.

I'm curious, will a Berkley filter out Strontium and cobalt or does it have to be distilled out?

Not that I've ever watched anyone die of dehydration, but I would imagine the most uncomfortable part is in the initial phase when you are terribly thirsty.
Otherwise it results in higher sodium levels in the body (less free water) and results in multisystem organ failure (kidneys and liver first to go) --> you become obtunded or comatose and essentially feel nothing with the toxin build up --nitrogen, urea, ammonia --> and eventually die.

I think suffocation and the resultant respiratory failure would be worse than dehydration given watching people die with air hunger (end stage COPD) and the amount of medications to get them comfortable.

Imagine a city of TWENTY MILLION people with no water. Imagine a city of only eight million people with no water. Imagine the stench after TWO WEEKS.

I have always wondered why preppers obsess about food and never a back-up water source.

Most of us have a well or a creek nearby.
is "YOUR" well or "YOUR" creek sufficient to provide water to 40 million humans, or just 9 million humans......????

You are a perfect example of the intentional delusion reference water.

The fundamental truth is nearly all preppers seduce themselves into the comfort of "denial". They want to pretend that having two years of food and one or two weeks of water will "HOPEFULLY" work.

Yep, a short walk down the road or through the field of (soybeans this year, I would guess corn next year)

I do live in a REDACTED flood Plain soon.

Thought about a Berm? People are always looking for a place to dump dirt!
Or maybe that moat you wanted? channel that stuff somewhere else.

That question is answered by me with ibwouldnt live near 40 million, or 9 million humans. 40 people is more than enough for me.
OK......me also. But this water issue vividly points to "one" of the many flaws in current prepper theory or teachings.

Not sure we're 40 mil or 9mil humans came about, no one implied anything about that.

Am I delusional maybe to a certain extent (on my familys survival) but compared to a person who truly believes that the whatever level of government will take care of them in time of need, that's delusional.

No one here I'm sure will truly divulge in every prep they have, I know I certainly don't, not even here I won't.

As far as we're I live, we have 3 major lakes within 10 min walk. So as Magnus said, he is not wrong.

As far as I am concerned everyone has there 2 cents, I welcome it, I view it as it will help me come up with new ideas.

Fair enough but I know don't know anyone or any government who is helping everyone be prepared. It boils down to each one of us to take personal responsibility.

There is likely 5,000 or more posts on this forum having something to do with preserving or purchasing food for storage for well into the future use.

Yet members of this and every forum loath discussing their high-risk exposure of no water. And I know why they are loathed to even think about a redundant water source, or how fragile the water to the faucet really is. It would in nearly "ALL" cases require moving.

From this, I'm getting the sense we should be talking more on clean drinking water? If so, I agree, there is not to much on this topic, so hopefully I will start it off with my next PDF.

I developed two springs to cover our water needs.

This year has been a dry year but one of those springs was still running as of last Sunday.
