Hey 42,

These were something else.......with the 428 CJ "Package"!!

Indeed they were! I actually saw ONE. Fortunately they were rare.
There was 100 Mach 1's with 351's for every one of those. My brother-in-law had one.
We ate the 351's alive with the hot 327's.
Now, the 1967 'stang with the 11:1 390..... my brother had one. It was a horse of a different color (pun), purple.
Only ran on 100 octane Amaco white gas. Any other premium and it wouldn't idle and black smoked.
It was fast! I mean more than 135 MPH fast. Probably have more than a few white hairs from riding with him:rolleyes:. Everything was 2-lane then; there were no interstates.
The factory low-balled the horsepower rating (320 at 4800 rpm for the 390) to keep people from paying a ton in insurance. (the 428 Cobra Jet was only rated at 335)
Yeah, right! Liars!
Wikipedia said:
"The 428 cu in (7.0 L) Cobra Jet engine continued unchanged in the 1969 and 1970 model years and continued to be advertised at just 335 hp (250 kW; 340 PS) despite being closer to 410 hp (306 kW; 416 PS)."
There is no telling what they actually made.
That mustang was however his major source of income until he got a job at age 20. About that much horsepower.

Aw hell, I'll tell a funny story about the purple mustang.

The city cops had chased my brother numerous times and he'd just outrun them.
It only had a 3-speed in it because it didn't need 4. It would accelerate coming out of a turn like it's *** was lit on fire.
The cops hated losing.
A lot.
One day the farm truck was busy and my mom needed to get groceries. He tossed her the keys and said: "just take my car".
Everything was stick shift back then, it was just another one.
The mustangs had high backs on the seats. My mom was tiptoeing around in town when 3 cop cars zoomed up around her.
The cops ran up on both sides of the car, my mom rolled down the window.
And my mom (who never cussed) quoted what they said: "Aw ****!" and walked dejected back to their cars:bang Head:.

Ha ha! Good old Impala, we had a hot 327 in one of those. With a Powerglide behind it and good tires, it was a moneymaker. Lots of weight over the back wheels=no traction problems.

Nope, small block 350, original engine, original 4 speed manual. I've had it for 13 years and it flipped 100k last summer

Hey Matt,

That is great! A real "survivor car"!!

If it says SRT on it, trust me, you don't want to race against it:eek:.
(SRT= Street & Racing Technology)
You can take the "&" out of that to get a more accurate picture of what it is.

I'm a Chevy guy and subscribe to the "know thy enemy" philosophy.

C'mon 3T, if you still have it, post an under-hood pic.

@msharley Yeah, THAT!
You do not want to race against THAT.
If you think his car looks fast, try to imagine why the air intake pipe is as big as your leg:eek:.
Those 3 little letters on the back spoiler are your only clue:

Street Racing Technology.
And get used to seeing those tail lights...

I'm looking at that thing and asking myself, how in the hell do you get to the plugs or anything else on that engine?
