And now they have hired him.

good luck to him.

You never want to be the guy after THE guy. Especially when that guy happens to be the GOAT of College Football Coaches.

I remember Ray Perkins was generally despised even though he had a winning record... He replaced Bear Bryant. He couldn't fill those shoes no matter what he did. I felt bad for the guy.

Ha! I felt the Saban retirement was planned as soon as i heard it... somehow i missed this article from last august on Al.com!!! He bought a >million dollar home in Palm Beach after last season. If that wasn't a clue i don't know what was! Talk about telegraphing your intentions...

He earned every inch of it .
Hopefully he can relax and be happy just making an occasional Aflac commercial:).

Oh, I'm proud for him. Boy from a small PA coal town retires to Palm Beach... couldn't make up a better story. And he didn't earn money making shady business deals in an office. He earned it standing on a sideline in front of thousands.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he decided some time ago that this would be his last season. I would expect he did a lot of soul searching, and had lengthy discussions at least with his wife. Buying a piece of property like that is a monumental decision. Everybody had to be on board. The decision wasn't a spur of the moment thing. So will we see him on the golf course in Florida or in the TV Booth somewhere?

Watching the bama spring game on espn. Milroe looks real good, the backs look good. The top 3 receivers from last year left so, bunch of rookies at wide out. The D looks good but they always have the advantage in these type games.

Saban is on the side line. Probably to help evaluate the new crop of guys. Not going to ignore his advice.

Think I posted before… I once sat directly in front of Bart Starr, Joe namath and kenny stabler during a bama spring game. They had clip boards and were up in the stands just watching and evaluating guys. Educational for me to say the least! I listened to every word!

Edit to add... they just announced that there's 72K in attendance today. Was thinking of going to town... nope! Not now! Tuskaloosa will be a driving nightmare until tomorrow afternoon.

Now that was a trio to listen too. All 3 were great in their own right

Well, just watched the season opener from Dublin Ireland, Fl st vs Georgia Tech. Tech won in a last second field goal. Excellent game, I hope it’ll silence the pundits talking about Flst. I don’t listen to sports talk radio or tv but the noise crept into local news casts. All I’ve heard for 2 months is Fl st! Fl st! Fl st!

Of note, I was surprised to see Saban on the espn college gameday show this morning. Didn’t know about his new gig. At least his commentary was insightful and intelligent. An improvement over some of his predecessors.

I did not watch the game, but Saban in the booth does not surprise me at all. I expected it the day he retired. As long as he wants to work, and deal with the travel schedule I would bet the ranch he could write his own ticket. Every network would want him. No surprise his commentary would be intellignt and insightful. Exactly what I want from an analyst. Tell me things I don't know.

Klovis, welcome to he forum. Good to have you with us. There are a bunch of SEC fans here, and it is a very good natured rivalry. I think we all root for each other. How about introducing yourself.

My dad graduated from Georgia Tech and went on to become a Rocket Scientist for NASA!
Can I stir up some too?

I knew the head of cardiology at the Mayo years ago. Amazing guy, got a doctorate from Ga Tech in aerospace engineering before he decided to be a cardiologist. When he retired from the Mayo I installed a ct for him at his new heart clinic in Columbus ohio (retirement hobby). Only doctor I ever met that actually understood our technology. Neat guy, over the years I met his entire family. They were all were over achievers, an under statement 🤣.

I ended up watching N. Dakota st vs Colorado, a pretty good game. Besides, have to see what Neon Deon Sanders is mouthing off about this season. Still think he did the kids at Jackson st wrong when he left the school for bigger and better. (small school in alabama north of anniston). Who knows what really happened there... part of it was his son who played for him. Can't blame the guy for wanting his kid to play at a bigger more visible school, better coaches, staffs and facility. Kid is a qb who might go pro.

You gotta let us know when The Tide plays, before the game starts! :waiting:

Game time is 6pm cst Saturday. Its at home, I'll avoid t-town like the plague. The conga line of cars and campers will start clogging every major road tomorrow afternoon. Unfortunately I might have to go to t-town tomorrow afternoon if an order comes in, all the way across town no less. Traffic will be a pain in the butt! 🤬

Made the mistake of coming into town on a game day up 82–will never do that again!

Long ago I lived in t-town. Something simple like getting a few groceries was difficult with a home game. Now that I'm old and grumpy I try not to be withing 40miles of t-town on game day. Even this far out certain roads have to be avoided from noon friday til noon sunday.

Another Sec team playing tonight... Temple vs Oklahoma. Ok up 34-0 at the half. Ok looks good, hitting on all cylinders, off, def, special teams all look good. But then it's just a warmup game against Temple, hard to get a good read until they play a top program.

Watching the Bama game...
That Western Kentucky QB is best Bama has had for a while! 🤣
(Good thing Fido ain't watching!)

Bama up 42-0 at the half. They've mostly looked good, with a few 'keystone cops' moments.
Ok Bama, be nice and let the 2nd-string have a chance to play :( ....🤣.
