Hey, we're planning a driving trip next summer to Alaska. We'll be going through Soldotna on our way to Homer. We'll have to plan a meet-up.

How bad did you get hit with that storm? That had to have complicated things if you got hit as hard I a suspect you did.
Very-Very bad. 42" of heavy wet snow in 20 hours, then another 14" the next day, grid down, phones down (STILL).

For the last 19 days, this has been my super sucky reality, with no known improvement yet insight.
That STOCKDALE, perfectly expresses my current situation. But I am safe for right now.
That storm dumped almost knee deep snow for us. Took me 8 hours to clear my driveway between getting stuck and fixing equipment.

Were the last 2-1/2 weeks horrors due to being cut off from the rest of the world, or due to injury, accident, medical condition, etc.? I don't mean to pry into what the issue was if it's personal. Ignore my question if that's the case.
If the issue was simply being cut off (or what happened to you after the triggering event of being cut off), then I would use that to evaluate my current preps. You are one of the more prepared people and advocates on this forum. I am not - only good for a few months at most. But if 2-1/2 weeks almost took out a highly prepped person, then I'll probably remain content with my current prep levels.
Most people, even here, don't know the reality of living where you are your only responder. Where your skills, resources, and mental strength are the only thing keeping your soul earthbound.
I couldn't imagine living in those conditions. I lose one light bulb out of 12 light bulbs in the kitchen, and feel like shooting off a flare gun!
Sourdough has medical conditions that complicate his preferred living situation. I gave up living in an off road community to be closer to my doctors several years ago. Sourdough truly loves his home. We can all understand that. His skills allow him to stay longer than most of us could manage. Certainly longer than I could.

This is the challenge for those of us who see what is coming down the pike. We know we will be safer in some ways out in the middle of the wilderness, but then there is being able to survive as we get older.
It was not any "LACK" of preps that was the problem. The problem was the inability to gather "ACTIONABLE" basic informatiom/intelligence required or desired inorder to take prudent action going forward.
Basicly, I realized that I must get outside of the cabin in order to assess the gravity of my reality. And once I was off the mountain, which I very nearly failed to complete, I became vividly aware that I could never get back up there.

Sorry to hear that. At least you made it out and are still able to type your sentence above. That's good news.
Would coming up with some expanded communication system help in any way? A satellite phone, for example, might be expensive but it could potentially enable communications in the most remote of settings. You'd have to have some way to charge the thing, but that should be trivial to do with solar panels, a generator, spare batteries, etc. I take it radio communication to the nearest town might not be possible where you are. It's not always feasible given distance, terrain, obstructions, etc.
But at some point in our lives, every one of us will have to reevaluate our current living situation. Whether that be you, living on a remote mountain and considering moving into town or me, living in a town, considering moving into an assisted care facility. We all are potentially going to have to make these unpleasant decisions sooner or later. Unless we die first, or degenerate to the point where somebody else makes the decision for us. On the plus side, what we made dread now could turn out to be "the best decision we ever made" once it has been made. You never know.
This is sage advice.

Yes, and that is why Florida is actually a really unsafe place to live. Climate might be great, but so many other things are not.This is sage advice.

I imagine that the health system there is overloaded. Older people are driving when they should no long have a license or vehicle. How many are living with dementia or Alzheimer's and living alone?
Once in a while we have stories about an older person who went up the off ramp and got onto the freeway, driving toward oncoming traffic. Such scary business.
But on the bright side of that, it's probably a lot quicker to get a colonoscopy scheduled there compared to a place that caters to younger folk.

Two of my Aunts and Uncles sold their farms and moved into town.
At the time I thought I would never do that.
It proved the smart thing to do.
Both Uncles had health problems a few years later and they would have been unable to care for their places.
One Uncle even came to the realization that his wife was exhausting herself trying to care for him and made the decision to move into a nursing home. He hated it but he also knew it was the right thing to do for his wife.
That was a selfless gesture of his love for his wife and I admired him for it.
At the time I thought I would never do that.
It proved the smart thing to do.

But the forum just turned 6, several active members were here at the start. I was a late comer, didn't join til the middle of december

I’m right there with you Peanut. Mine will turn 89 in April and only just recently stopped driving after dark. It’s a real Catch-22; their desire to keep doing things is what keeps them going but some of those same things can be dangerous and nerve wracking for us.

Yes! We want to know when people have left this life and we will not be seeing them here again. How to do that?
I used to belong to a wonderful UK forum that closed so moved to facebook, which I am not on. I still have their physical addresses and am tempted to send Christmas cards, though it's been a few years. Not sure if it would be weird after this time? and I wouldn't want to upset families if something happened to them over Covid.
I think you should send them! You could include a little note that says you know it's been a while and regardless of what life has brought said person is kindly remembered - which pays respect no matter current circumstances (respectful if someone has passed).
That bit there - that's what makes you a good person in my book
I say I get peopled out.
