You have an amazing story Hun that could potentially give so many who struggle encouragement in one way or another. Your accomplishment was not just the weight loss. . . You had A LOT to overcome to get you to where you are now. You are one heck of a woman and once you have your mind set, there is nothing you won't accomplish. I think Estelle has given you great joy over the years and gave you another reason to live your life to the fullest.
Estelle is my first grand daughter.
She is the child of my oldest son.
She's my little buddy, my little helper.
But I am just as proud of Reign.
She is the oldest daughter of my youngest son.
Now this last May I have two more reasons to keep on, keep on.
4 May 2024 my first grandson of my oldest son was born.
25 May 2024 my third grand daughter was born to my youngest son.
Estelle age 6, Reign age 3 the last two age 8-9 months Charles IV, and NYX.
As for the other Senior NCO"S some of fought to come back to similar life we had before.
Some could not overcome their injuries.
Some were killed outright.
We all had a idea what we sign on for when we enlisted all those years ago.
I still get frustrated, there is still tears, still have scars.
But my sons and grandchildren is my reason not rollover and die.

well, but there are accidents or in your case intentional attacks that are not your fault, and then there are accidents that are because you were careless ( me) . There is a difference
I have had accidents before several times because I rushed and was careless. I seem to not have learned from it. Fell on my head at a theme park in Orlando once running in flip flops while it was raining. Ended up with a concussion. I cut myself really bad laying tile once ( but didn't actually cut my finger off) , had a lawnmower accident that required stitches, broke a leg and a collar bone as a kid ( doing dangerous things don't ask) and a few minor ones. I have been to the ER way more often than I care to remember
funny thing is I never hurt myself doing dangerous sports ( alpine skiing, rock climbing, martial arts with real sparring, gymnastics are a kid)
Me thinks I might get you some bubble wrap for your birthday. 😊
I do think some of it is just character. Eldest niece has had multiple ER runs through no fault of her own per se, but seems to have a knack for being in the right spot at the wrong time.
Youngest niece - I don't know that she has ever needed a band-aid and she's the one who's gone sky-diving, repelling, pilots etc.

Oh Wow!! I am so behind. Obviously I need to get on here more often. You have MANY Blessing in your life now to keep you going! Enjoy and cherish. I hope you get to see all often. I know it's hard when they are a few hours away. I'm up to 6 right now and 5 live away from us.

You can imagine, but can't totally understand until you are there, in a war situation. PTSD is a real thing and we have lost way too many good men and women. I am so glad you found your reason to stay with us Hun.

Week 2 day 3

the cream of broccoli soup I made yesterday was really good and really easy to make: just used a large bag of frozen broccoli ( yes from store, out of the ones we grew) boiled it in some chicken stock with half a chopped onion salt and pepper and a little nutmeg, put in blender ( leave top off or it will blow it off ) , I put a paper towel over it, and then added a little heavy cream and some shredded sharp cheddar

it was so filling I couldn't finish my usual 2 slices of pizza

today soup ( probably soup #1) , sweet and sour red cabbage, Bratwurst, potatoes

EDIT: XXXXX BAD DIET day LOL, I forgot to make the soup and ended up hungry in the evening, I guess the soup really does work! Ate 2 Reeses cups from a bag husband got at the store, then had a turkey sandwich, a bowl of fruit and a slice of German Christmas Stollen from Aldi I forgot I had in the freezer and defrosted for the guys.....

I'm still chugging along. Trying to avoid most carbs, with small amounts of white meat and vegetables, but always a salad for lunch. We took an extra long walk yesterday (5.5 miles) but helping the construction crew around the house, I ended up walking 8 miles. Looking at my morning weigh in, I'm seeing a strange pattern, which has nothing to do with food intake or walking. I'm thinking all this dieting and exercise is making my body adjust to storing or depleting fat and/or muscle?

The main thing is, you are healthier!! You'll get down off that plateau soon!!😃

week 2 day 5

I think this is my worst diet week so far, had some junk after swimming because I was hungry and still had to drive home and cook ( candy bar)
So if I don't lose anything this week I will not be surprised

Today
Korean fried chicken, rice, spinach, cucumber salad, soup

I'm confused.
Day 1 of week one was 12-4-23:
day 1 accomplished
I actually weight myself this morning and I need to lose 25 pounds 😒
I had a craving for chocolate at 9 pm but had some herbal tea with no sugar instead.
Is this a 'never-ending' diet?:dunno:
Maybe give us an update on how much you have lost dieting for a month?

@Supervisor42, I was wondering the same thing about this diet. With those meals I would be gaining weight (fried chicken, bratwurst, pizza, fettuccini, fatty BBQ ribs, soups made with heavy cream and cheese, etc). Not trying to be critical, but for me, it would be tough to lose weight on such a "diet."
I probably ate 1000 calories of junk a day ( candy, chocolate ice cream, extra bread, chips) , which is what I cut out
I have been eating food that like that my whole life without being overweight. Keep in mind, I usually eat 1 plate of food, so even if it is high calorie, it's not that much. I did post this already but my average pizza for example, for the 2 slices I eat, that would be around 750 calories. That's not much
fried chicken today : I had a drum stick and a thigh , looked i\t up 238 cal in a fried chicken thigh, that's not much at all, mine probably had 300 cal since I put Korean sauce on it , but then again it had no skin on it ( our cornish cross have sort of tough skin, I take it off)
I think maybe you are just looking at what type of food, and not the actual quantities and calories of it

you can get fat if you eat 5 lbs of lettuce and carrots in a meal LOL

plus I read this on this forum all the time, you guys go out to eat. Who knows how many calories is in that food. I cook my own food from scratch, and we don't go out to eat

looked it up: average calories in 1 ( one) typical burrito in a Mexican restaurant 1000, then add the chips and salsa and you are done for the day ( just an example)

ok here you go :
cup and a half of rice : 300 cal
chicken ( 2 pieces) : 600 cal
spinach and cucumber : maybe 100 cal
soup : probably negligable but lets say 100 cal
total : 1100 cal for the main meal
that's not much at all

evening : if I eat a sandwich and some fruit, add another 500 cal
total maybe 1600 cal
plus maybe 200 for milk and sugar in tea or coffee, , that's 1800
I probably burn that much just sitting here typing

I started over with week 1 again in the new year. I posted that. So far I have lost 5 lbs.
...So if you need to lose 25 pounds, this 'diet thread' will still be going in June? :dunno:

I would be curious about how many calories you actually eat a day. You look fairly tall on the photo , you should be able to at least eat as much as me

But she is not doing a crash diet, more of a change in eating habits.
Back when I had to diet, I always went on a 'crash diet' (40 pounds in 90 days), because I didn't want it to take a day longer than necessary, and I knew it would take me longer than 1-1/2 years to gain it back :).
Very different today... you have to eat supper tonight, whether you are hungry or not:(.

I don't want to delete anything. Different people try to lose weight in different ways. If one person reads this and decides to add what works for them and what doesn't work for them, then please add to this thread, or ignore it if you wish.
I'm enjoying following my HCL family getting healthier!! Plus this thread is very motivational, it at least makes me think about what I am eating! Hope everyone continues to track their progress!!

thanks
it sounded like maybe this thread is cluttering up the forum or something
It's a good way for me to keep track and maybe it will help someone else
the soup thing really works for me, first time I tried this

week 2 day 6

one more day till scale time, hoping I still lost a pound this week but doubt it

today I am going to make bean soup with ham , a meal soup with beans, veggies and the ham in it
will probably bake a bread to go with it, Irish soda bread or corn bread goes well with this. I usually make a German cake ( doesn't translate, it's just basically a sweet yeast dough with streusel on top) but bread will have less calories. I know I will eat too much of the cake if I bake it

there is a piece of chicken left I might eat today too unless son or husband already ate it

I have no idea how many calories I eat in a day. As I have stated before, I am not on a weight loss diet.. I changed my lifestyle 5 years ago to a whole food, plant-based lifestyle and lost 80 pounds within a year. I have maintained my weight at 220 since then (I am 6'2"). I have no desire to lose anymore. The only reason I have participated in this thread is to provide another option to people who are interested in losing weight and keeping it off for good. I cannot imagine the hassle of having to count calories. I am more interested in health and nutrition.

glad you found something that works for you! I do like some of your food ideas. Surprised however you are not skin and bones on that diet . If you have time, I would like a list of everything you eat during an average day. Just out of curiosity what an all day diet like that looks like.

I don't count calories, I just looked a few up since you seemed to think I eat a ton of calories . I just cut out the junk and it seems to be working. But keep in mind, I do a lot of physical labor, plus I was not overweight until accident and menopause ( and covid stock up on junk) all at the same time
I do eat less now that I am older. I used to be able to eat half a large pizza, but would not be able to do that now.

To add to what I wrote earlier, I too find this thread an incentive to keep going, even when my lazy butt tells me it is OK to sit and watch TV all day. In fact, me throwing my progress into this thread, written by Sonya123, was just to keep us both going. Dieting is certainly not for everyone, but feel free to add helpful ideas if you wish. If we are killing the bandwidth, I'll ask for more, but rest assured, we've got plenty here.

I have already done that. Check out Page 4 of this thread. There are two examples. I had also posted a PDF that provides examples of typical WFPB meals on this thread. Evidently, no one reads this stuff. So, I'll post it again.
