Dumb question. Indoor chickens?

I've been in houses that have several birds as pets. Strong odors are not uncommon. Hard no for me on having chickens in the house. Doesn't mean they can't have their own "house" but I don't want to share living space with them. I'm also not so sure it's healthy.
Ditto that.

I like to bury my face in my animals' fur and smell them ( yes, even the donkey)! People who have human babies like to smell their babies so I can smell mine!!😉
I think that's pretty normal. I've always liked the smell of new born calves and foals.
Just not sure that I'd want a cat anywhere near my face though, a bobcat maybe.

Yea I don't think it's a good idea..
I had a rooster get attacked by my neighbors dog in winter. I had him in a kennel in my bathroom untill it wasn't freezing outside. I had to clean his kennel a few times a day..total pain in the A.. messy n stinky poo...but he was my special rooster.
My friend ran him over not long after he mended and was outside again. He was soooo friendly after but had no car avoiding sense. My friend didn't realize she backed over him n I didn't have the heart to tell her she smashed him..
But anyways..not a good idea ..

I can't stand indoor cat boxes..old cats stink I think..they don't or can't groom themselves well n start smelling like a catbox..

I recall when I was going to college and worked at pets mart a woman that always bought a ton of cat food and she leaked of cat box smell and bad B O...
I would try holding my breath n folks would back away when she was going through the register..
I don't think cat people realize unless they are very clean n sterile about the cat box their clothes and house start smelling like a catbox..gah..

that happens often ..I've known people that did that. I've done it too every time I hatch out chicks except I've made a special brooder out of a extra large totes. I have 2 totes I use so I can clean n swap daily. I can't wait to kick them outside once they get big enough.
I have two brooder heat plates in the totes so I can set them up on the porch in the tote for a few weeks to minimize inside time. The heat plates are pretty handy and are safer than heated lights. I've never lost a chick to them being cold.

Only way I'd keep a grown chicken in the house is just long enough to heat the oil in the fryer.

Like others I'll keep peeps in the house when I first get them if its too cold outside. Usually in a horse tub. As soon as they are big enough to survive under heat lamps they go out on the porch. Keep them a few weeks in an old fiberglass laundry cart from a state mental hosp.

Yes, you can keep them in the house. Amazon sells chicken, duck and goose diapers. Just saying.

Hey @Magus, get yourself a pet hen. I for one, would love to see a video of you changing it's diaper. I have seen a leash trained chicken and you can teach it to play the piano.

Love the replies! OK, so after SHTF, how will I have eggs?
I'm moving back into a real home soon I'm hoping, this Winnebago has had it pretty much I'll be needing to keep freeloading neighbors and wildlife out of my stuff. Maybe I'll pull a "breaking bad" and grow mushrooms and winter potatoes in it? Herbs? I'll always need spices! I thought about hamsters, but they stink worse than chickens!
