Ever know anyone who has continual bad luck? They don’t do stupid things yet bad things happen around them. I have a neighbor, great guy, help anyone, a preacher in fact. Last week dad told him he could deer hunt here until the end of season. This means I’m going to be on edge until the season ends… wondering what’s going to happen that I’ll have to fix.

Example, going back years dad would occasionally loan this guy farm equipment. He didn’t abuse the equipment but something always broke while he had it. One year the gang disk broke. How do you break a gang disk? In a life time on farms I’ve never heard of a gang disk breaking, yet it happened while he had it. Took me 3 months to fix it, 2 months just to find bearings for it! The last thing that happened... a hydraulic cylinder failed on the front end loader while he had the tractor. I know he didn’t use it, it was in the same lock position I put it in when he took the tractor. Yet somehow it broke. Dad finally quit loaning him equipment at my insistence. I felt bad for insisting, a great guy… just tired of fixing things that always break if he’s involved. :(

Some of these “accidents” were funny. One year dad let him hunt here. He built a little shooting house, brought it over and put it in the high field. He put out corn… Opening day finally arrived… Something happened at home that delayed him. Finally got over after lunch. Just so happened one of our cows was due that day. I noticed she was missing from the herd so I went looking. I found her, first calf, long labor… she was standing 50ft in front of his shooting house. I thought he was going to cry! He looked like a 5yrold with a toy taken away!!! All that time, trouble and effort, 1st day of season, and a cow goes into labor directly in front of his shooting house! 🤣🤣

Anyway… said he was coming over today to put out some corn near yet another shooting house he brought over saturday. Fine, daylight, not a problem. Except he didn’t get here until 7pm… (always late) I’m trying to relax and watch a ballgame after a busy day. Dogs are barking, side by side needed a muffler, making all kinds of noise. And I’m worried he’s going to run over a sleeping cow, by accident. A tire on the SxS blows out causing it to careen into….

The non-stop Shriner's commercials with the whining kids, on every channel!gaah
They started long before Christmas, and I thought they would be winding down after new years, but noooo!
I wonder if donors have any idea of how many million$ of their money is blown on these commercials?

Charity begins at home, you ain't buying your way into heaven, but you can sure spend your way into hell!

Just sayin' pointing things out. LOL

Amish, my dad had a worker who was super lazy and didn't even do the bare minimum at work. Most other agents were clearing multiple cases per week and this guy would maybe clear one per month. He would just sit in the office drinking coffee and reading the paper or something. Dad got tired of this guy getting paid $$$ to do next to nothing so he called him in and gave him a quota of stuff he had to do in order to keep his job. Within a week the guy put in his notice because he didn't want to actually work. He wasn't eligible for retirement pay.

People like to insult the younger generations for not knowing how to do things, but a lot of them were never taught by the older generations. They don't see what a parenting fail it is when the kids are wholly unprepared to go out in the world and do basic things for themselves. Too much coddling and not understanding that kids can learn more than people think they can. I don't think kids should be overworked or exploited, but learning how to cook, clean, sew, etc are important life skills.

Peanut, I know/knew a few people with bad luck. I personally have a lot of bad luck. Like being the only student in my college class to get one of the misprinted college textbooks and it just so happened to be a page that had an assignment. Having things break down all the time, etc. My best friend also has really bad luck. We had a family friend named Mel who had terrible luck as well. Things just always went wrong for him. I think he passed away last year.

Oh, so the saga of my brother and Capital One stealing his Roth IRA $$$ may be near a close. They changed the name of the company that had the $ a few times. He reported them to the BBB a few months back because they were not responding to any of his calls, e-mails, messages, etc. The bank had locked him out of being able to login for awhile, but after he told the BBB they let him login again. Then he publicly stated his intention to sue the bank to get his $ back. Suddenly they sent him some links and forms to fill out to get his $. He just got the check yesterday. In 5 days we'll know whether it cleared or not or if it will bounce. My brother thinks it is finally over. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and fully expecting it to bounce or have an issue.

Meanwhile, my best friend has kidney stones again. He went to the ER in severe pain and they treated him like a drug addict. Then he pissed blood and they suddenly took him seriously. Unfortunately, he doesn't have insurance so the bill is going to be astronomical.

That is a cop out Z! That is the new generation's way of making excuses on why they are lazy. My dad didn't teach me a thing in life. He was a workaholic who only spent his off time playing golf. When I was young, there were no free handouts, no free phones, no internet, no free food.

You didn't work, you didn't eat.

It is amazing what the human body can learn when one has an empty stomach!

You might think he was careful, but maybe he really wasn't. And since it wasn't his equipment, maybe he wasn't as careful as he could have, should have been.

I have believed this: If you borrow something from someone, you return it in as good of condition as you borrowed it, or better. If something breaks while you have it, you repair it or have it repaired. It's part of the deal. Why did he always need to borrow equipment? Maybe because he had destroyed all of his own.

Two of my uncles, brothers, farmed/ranched. They had separate places, maybe 20 miles apart. They decided they could/would share equipment. One brother always had the farm equipment break when he used it, and then he would return it to the other brother, while it was broken! It was a big contributing factor to the other one quitting life in the country and working on state roads. The brother who always broke equipment, also had a big problem with drinking. He would go on benders and be drunk for days.

Thunderstorms today took power out multiple times. Killed the Starlink dish so I'm having to use crappy mobile hotspot data. Had to set my phone in the bathroom window to get signal for it and Mom is super pissed off that she can't load Youtube. Starlink changed the terms of the warranty for the dish now so it doesn't cover storm damage. They sell new kits at bestbuy but they use a different cable and the cable they come with is too short. Customer support is nonexistent so not sure what we are going to do in the meantime.
