to me a troll is someone who when you don't agree with them resorts to personal abuse.
I have had several experiences of this.
and it seems almost as if prepping forums bring them out.

Trolls are pretty much the same on all forums,,,,they just want to stir the pot

They appear to take great perverse pleasure in destroying something good that other people have created. I've seen it on prepping forums and boards going back as far as the ancient YAHOO GROUPS Misc Survival bullitin board. Fish keeping forums, camping and camper van forums, 4x4 forums etc .

I have two guns at home that I keep loaded at all times in case some scumbag comes around looking for an easy target to rob or anything like that. Some people would rather rob others instead of working for an honest living.

Even if guns were banned I would still carry one. You'd be an idiot not to. Earlier this year I was forced to use my gun as a deterrent in a potentially dangerous situation. I could have been in a lot of trouble if I didn't have my gun.

Maybe you're right. Maybe even though that is the ideal, I should still compromise my values and arm myself. That is a decision I cannot take lightly whatsoever, though.

The only way I would ever consider using deadly weapons if I had them was in a true SHTF scenario.

If society is still structured and "healthy" like it is now, I would let a thief steal my car and call the cops over shooting him.

To be honest I don't know what the answer is to save and restore this great forum and Clydes blood sweat tears and money but I do think at some point if DPF is to survive its going to need more / different / better/ alternative moderation in the short term. I would like it to be easier to get rid of trolls but not other members who people just don't like ( half the members would have me banned in seconds ) But equally ( and I know its a chore) but the trolls posts must also be removed leaving no trace of their sick pastime on DPF, they should not be able to leave a legacy.

I had called to report these spammers some time back, & encouraged others to do the same then put them on 'ignore'. As just a member, that's all I can do.

Or does it matter if I 'report' the same spammer over and over? I'm just curious...

I do understand giving sometime opportunity to be 'different'. Such as when GG & I disagreed. But when someone is a far left wacko, time to cut the cord...

It's a tough one. There's having differing opinions with other members, then there coming here to blatantly flame and get everyone riled up.
Like eveyone else I have people on my ignore list. They are there because their views are different to mine or they simply write a line or two that has nothing to add to a subject, is opinionated, says the same thing time and again and is ignorant.
Those are the ones I feel I can safely ignore, but I think we are at a point where we all need to step up and report the neer' do wells to give staff a chance to decide what to do.

Exactly. Half the reason I'm so paranoid nowadays is due to the two straight years I spent living in a combat zone. Now it's not like I was drafted, so some may say it was my own choice to join the military and therefore my own fault, but that isn't so much the case. When you come from a poor family sometimes one of your only options after high school is to join the military.

I don't see why having served in the military would make someone a better member. I reached the rank of Eagle Scout but never joined the military, and feel I have better wilderness survival skills than plenty, or even most military veterans.
