A student of mine was being cared for by grandma while mom and dad were away for a few weeks. She told me she was horrified that he was picking up bugs and a few cockroaches, sticking them in a baggie and giving them to his chickens when they went to feed them. She said she had to throw away the chicken eggs because they were contaminated. Ha. I told her they weren't. And that chickens eat mice sometimes, too. They are mini velociraptors.

How funny on vegetarian chickens and them being mini velociraptors! That's what happened to the dinosaurs!.

In one of the "Going Home" books by A. American the main character, Morgan, gets 5 gallon buckets and put holes in the bottom. The throws all the animals killed for food, insides in the buckets. Then the flies lay eggs there, and the maggots from the eggs, drop through the holes in the bucket and the chickens have a buffet of bugs to feast on. It supplemented the food supply for the chickens.

Oh, last evening I was texting with my youngest daughter talking about Krispy Kreme donuts. So, I had to make a run into town at 9pm to get a few. Been a LONG time since I've done that.

Have one with your coffee or morning drink. For this group it's a magical restocking box of cream filled donuts.

Hmm. Does the text describe how to mitigate the aroma of the putrefying offal?

Maggots severely gross me out. So do bot flies. We had an old, old dog that didn't move much. I had a compost bin going, and maggots were in there from the big old black flies. The old dog was in pain and still wouldn't move much. The flies had gotten into the skin of her back and laid eggs. Maggots were eating away at her. I didn't know it, but took her into the vet to see what could be done. The skin on her back broke open and I could see the maggots all over. The smell was horrific. She cried so hard. The vet put her down. Gave me bad dreams for awhile. I really discourage flies in our yard around the animals and put fly traps up all over. The meat in buckets would attract the big black flies that would lay the eggs that would be maggots. Not for me.

Yep, Innkeeper. Because chickens are free range, vegetarian, non GMO, organic, cage free, hormone free, pesticide free, politically correct, and can probably choose their own "identity". Maybe a Leghorn can even identify as a Speckled Sussex.
It's amazing how people can throw their own issues onto animals.

Such a blessing....a new fridge.....YES....Hubby brought us out cold root beers to drink while we watched the birds...saw doves, the hummingbirds were really busy fussing about which feeder who would use....bullbats flying all over getting bugs...the Mississippi Kites flew over several times after I called them.....and then the bees would not let me have my root beer….they kept flying into my cup and crawling all over, so I gave up, got a saucer, put rocks in it, and the rest of my drink...they called all their bee friends and they had a party to our delight in watching them....doves have treat to eat tomorrow, old pecans....LOL

My Pops had an old Blue Heeler dog that got a superficial little wound near her tailhead from a fight with a stray. We didn't even see the wound under her thick undercoat. But the flies got into it and laid their eggs. The poor dog started acting weird and he took her to the vet, who found the problem. The vet sprayed something on it that made the maggots just explode out of the wound. Then he treated her for infection and said she was good to go. Strangely, he also said the maggots probably helped by consuming some of the rotten/dead flesh. The dog lived 4 more years to the ripe old age of 14, so I guess the vet must have known what he was talking about...

@havasu yes I live on the east coast of Australia here so we are anywhere time wise ahead of you there in the United States by 12 - 16 hours depending on which coast of the United States you live on :) .
By chance could you tell me the lotto numbers for Monday's lottery drawing?:clapping:

HI everyone. Started the day driving an Aunt to get a test at a hospital. That waiting area sure was cold, like they have operating rooms. But, fortunately I had a large crocheting to work on, and it helped warm me.

How's everyone doing today. Hope it's as good as a Monday can be for you.

Afternoon, everybody...what's up today? I'm getting ready to go back to work tomorrow...and debating with myself about buying a gun or two. Our new contract just went into effect a few days ago, and I got a fair chunk of back pay. Now I'm trying to justify wants vs. needs.

Do you have your eye on a specific gun? One you've been waiting for, or just wanting to go out and celebrate having some funds in your pocket again?

I always have about 10 guns I have my eye on!;) Right now, I'm looking at a second carry gun. Well, that or an SKS. Or a Marlin lever action 44Mag. Or...maybe I should stop while I'm ahead???
