what is going on with young folks these days? my great-grandson-6-told his mother 25- he hates her. this also happened with my sister's daughter and granddaughter.

If one of mine ever talked to me like that, their behinds would've gotten pretty warmed up. It's called respect and has to be taught and modeled.

I was walking around just now in the yard and saw a huge snake about 10 feet long. I was thinking better watch out for them then saw it.
I got fairly close to see if it had viper pits but couldn't get close enough to see, or wouldn't get that close. I think it was a king snake. So I just chased out of yard.
We don't kill ANY snake unless it keeps refused to leave. One little pigmy rattler under chicken waterer was very aggressive and kept striking when we took it to the woods, so third time it came back into chicken pen we killed it.
Without snakes rats and other varmits would take over. And snakes are now endangered from people killing them. I don't think anyone should keep them for pets though. Now Florida is full of pythons who have no natural preditors here killing native wildlife and soon peopel will be on the menu.
These big snakes don't care about you or even like you and will eat you first chance they get.

I looked it up and it was a Salt Marsh Garter snake, non poisonous.

We don’t have any venomous snakes in our local area so all are welcome here.
Yesterday saw two about a foot long. 2 different species in the same area.
Happy to see them. Especially since it’s been a bad few years of gophers.

Gophers are getting worse here every year another reason to not kill snakes. Scientist don't know why snake population has fallen but are concerned.

We have a lot of timber rattlers, cotton mouths, and .... my mind just went blank, very aggressive, poisonous, hard to see! I'll think of it tonight when I'm trying to sleep! Anyway, we have to be very careful and look where we step.

(EDIT) Copperhead! That's it! Copperhead! They mostly don't get as big as other pit vipers, but they are nasty buggers!

i agree. i also should have said both moms have let drugs and men come between them and their children. sister has custody of her granddaughter. my granddaughter more or less gave her 2 boys to my daughter. with that being said i would really punish them for that, but it is not my call. hpwever i hope they do not repeat that in my presence.

Scary, Meerkat!
Since my grandfather almost died from a rattler bite, we are quick to take them out if they appear.

Haven't people already been on the menu for pythons? There are people who think they are cool pets. There has been more than one human killed by one of these pets.

More people in the southeast are bitten by copperheads than all other species combined. A rattle snake is the least aggressive, a cottonmouth is very aggressive but will hesitate before it actually strikes. A copperhead won't hesitate at all but will strike blindly. I've been bitten 3 times by copperheads while out hunting plants. Thankfully I was wearing snake gaiters so no harm done. I keep gaiters in my truck and always wear them if a location looks "snakey". :)

I see copperheads often. I rarely see rattlers or cottonmouths.

Copperhead?
Copperhead! That's it! My brain hit a slick spot and couldn't get any traction every time I tried to recall the name.
Thanks y'all.

We have king snakes here. Really nice snakes.
Gopher snakes as well.
There are lots of rattlesnakes in CA but our little area doesn't have them... Yet. They aren't far away though.
When we round us sis' cattle in the hills I take a rifle loaded with birdshot in my scabbard at all times. I had one strike at my horse from a downed tree a few years ago. Snake didn't survive the fight. Thankfully it didn't make contact with my horse. My horse was smart and jumped away, which put me in perfect line up for the shot.

I carry my SR9 when I go into the woods around here. Loaded with #12 birdshot. They don't move after a head shot with that.

All this snake talk makes my uncomfortable. Fortunately we don’t have many up this way. A few hours south they have rattlers.i saw my Share of poisonous snakes too close in SE Asia and Africa. Snakes dont like me. My lovely bride will attest to the fact that when I go into a reptile house the snakes go berserk and attack the glass. Crocs and gators react in a similar way.

Today was prepare for and feed b&b guests, housecleaning, shovelling snow off the well house, walk the dog and a worship service. Once a month the 5 Christian churches in the valley get together for a joint praise service. Also did some PR work for the local riding club and some updates on our B&B website.Tomorrow it’s worship service and then new guest arriving in the afternoon.

Okay, new topic… Yesterday it was 62 degrees, today it was 65. My house filled up with orange lady bugs. They are a beneficial insect. They eat aphids but are very annoying. They are in a family of tiny beetles called “Coccinellid”. There are dozens and dozens of beetles in this subfamily.

Any one else have this annoying beneficial insect plaguing their homes now? :)
