Okay, new topic… Yesterday it was 62 degrees, today it was 65. My house filled up with orange lady bugs. They are a beneficial insect. They eat aphids but are very annoying. They are in a family of tiny beetles called “Coccinellid”. There are dozens and dozens of beetles in this subfamily.

Any one else have this annoying beneficial insect plaguing their homes now?

Not right now, but we have had in the past. We just vacuum them. They stink!!

We got to our farmhouse after not being there three months and they were all over the place. They stink and my cousin said they could bite. I vacuumed for days finding those things all over the place.
I didn't think they were the good ladybugs that eat aphids, just thought they were annoying small beetles.

The most heart-breaking day I ever had in a hay field. He stayed right where his momma left him… in my hay. After being hit by the mower he couldn’t walk but I had nothing to put him down with… It was heart breaking, wrenching! I carried him to the woods to the shade so he could rest. He crawled back out into the field where his momma left him…

I mow slow and watch in front of the mower like a hawk, but that happened to me last summer, anyways. I was fortunate in that it was quick for the little guy, a total newborn. I than had to keep driving the field for another 4 hours watching the mom go nuts. It still sucks to remember it. It was a late birth and it was simply too small to see in the thick hay. I leave a 20 foot zone around my hayfields for critters and bee food, but it wasn't enough last year. My place has been organic for 30 years and the animal population is building up enough that I will have to stay extra sharp.

I am pretty sure that is a cow; the long blonde hair gives it away. I bet you all $5 her name is Barbie and you will have a tough time convincing me she is transgender.

there is yellow finches outside my window this morning. hundreds of them, hitting the bird feeders.

If you let their population build up you will notice an improvement in your garden or with house plants... They are little aphid eating machines. But then you have to deal with them in your house. I have no idea how they get in my house.

I don't know how they got in ours either. But the interior is pretty white, so they are obvious. Also on white bedding. No bugs in the bed for me! Our farmhouse is over a hundred years old, so I'm sure they find lots of ways in.

We have a lot of timber rattlers, cotton mouths, and .... my mind just went blank, very aggressive, poisonous, hard to see! I'll think of it tonight when I'm trying to sleep! Anyway, we have to be very careful and look where we step.


(EDIT) Copperhead! That's it! Copperhead! They mostly don't get as big as other pit vipers, but they are nasty buggers!

Stone Mountain Georgia where I grew up was snake city. We had lots of copperheads, rattlers kings and ring snakes.
Mama bought the place in 1949 and sold enough timber to build a 10 acre lake that I swam in for over 13 years .
My brothers and I was almost bitten several times by both moccasins and rattlers.Our lake was full of them so were the woods.
I know some here remember the Lords Last Supper and the snake story I told you at PS. Where I was stomping a wall rug over a rock in the creek of Lords Last Supper and singing " stomp the bread but don't stomp the wine' mama said it was blasphemy '.two large moccasins came up from under the edge of the rock and looked me right in the eyes. Mama said be still, no worry I was very still.
But those two snakes were acting like something out of a Steven King movie.
Mama killed em both but it was'nt an easy fight.

One day out in the boat a couple wouldn't let us dock so we had to hit them with orrs and they went to shore to keep things going. Aggressive suckers who had to meet mamas 38 pearl handled SW. My mother was a Pistal packing blonde and a heck of a shot. She was a city slicker who always wanted to get to the woods. She got her wish at 23 when she bought 100 acres in SM<GA.. Took up guns.

I forgot, mama got bit by a huge timber rattler, dr said it was big by size of fang marks and she would lose her leg but she didn't, she did keep the scars and was bed ridden for a couple days and very sick once she sobered up, scared me her leg was swollen like it was about to bust.
Snake was in floor board and when she kicked in the klutch it bit her. She opened the car door shook it off her leg and said, you'll walk now you sob'. us kids were screaming for her go to ER,no way. She was drunk and mad at her sister so we were going to Atlanta so she could tell her a thing or 60. and new car wouldn't start so she went up on the hill and got in old one where snakes must have homesteaded. My brothers and I were jumping all over the back seat wondering if we were next.

Don't even pretend that. Just been busy. With my part time work I've been getting behind on other projects like reloading and painting. But until the weather gets better the testing of the reloads is on hold. But today I got a ton of painting done and finished all the downstairs ceilings which means the whole downstairs has been painted. Also since I'm not out of paint that project is done.
@Fort Has been busy with her own projects and getting ready to pick up her new motorcycle. She is getting her feet wet in the art of the deal and playing the game with salesmen. In time that will benefit her greatly when she needs to barter for repairs with people.
@Double R I hope the new calf is doing well.
@gumpy I remember seeing 40 cal and 38cal snake loads at Cabelas. I only ever tried .22LR rounds but I wonder if the others would be too dangerous on rocky ground where the shot could ricochet at close range?

How did that painting problem turn out? What was the problem? If you posted I didn't see it.
I'm thinking about painting over some 1970's dark paneling. I'm horrible with paint, a friend says I'm the most dangerous man alive with a can of spray paint! I'm hoping to avoid the problem you had.

Tri sodium phosphate is a strong chemical typically used as a cleaning agent, food additive, stain remover and degreaser. Commonly sold as a white powder, TSP is also known as trisodium orthophosphate or sodium phosphate.@Peanut in case it was a real question....

It was... I went to Lowes looking for Phosphoric acid for a project not long ago. Wasn't sure if it was the same thing. They didn't have any...

@Peanut Lowe’s should have it. It’s typically packaged and labelled TSP ask in the paint department. Here in Canada they carry it in liquid and solid forms in a variety of sizes

Phosphoric acid is used to clean old paint from tractor engines. The sales guy didn't know the term phosphoric acid. I think we are talking about the same thing. I just didn't know to ask for TSP, he probably knew what that was.

I have had ladybugs all over my house. I like them. I think they are kind of cute. I much prefer them to the stink bugs, flies, ants, and mice(!) that also decided to try to live in my house. I just let the ladybugs be. Although I was not happy with the one that got into my ginger ale a few weeks ago.

The good news: I have ordered my motorcycle!! I just have to pick it up and pay for the rest of it besides the deposit. I got a good deal and I got the year/color that I wanted.

The crazy news: I had to go to urgent care yesterday (Sunday) morning for a rash that I first noticed on Saturday night. It is some sort of dermatitis/reaction and appears to be poison ivy or poison oak (which doesn't make a lot of sense).

The other good news: The prednisone has worked remarkably well in getting the rash under control and mostly gone already.
