Whew! It was in the 80s here today! I finally got a lot of stuff in the ground but I have only been able to work in short bursts. I got about 1/4 of the veggies planted and I presprouted some corn for one of my grain plots.

My husband and I were talking and he said he remembers times when they didn't get the corn out until after Memorial Day due to rain. I don't remember that growing up, bit I asked if it still produced much or if it was just chopped for silage. He said it did. So, hopefully I can still get a good harvest on some grains, too. I'm not very confident on that, though.

Weather here has been nuts. 80-90s highs last week, Lows in 30’s, highs in 60’s this week.
The store bought plants have been surviving. It’s just a matter of me keeping them watered enough the days she is at work.

What is it usually like there in May?

It feels like July weather now.

We have a weird year here.
Last year things browned out in April. This year end of May. Temps have been cooler. Rainfall off the charts in January. Even had rain in May.

When you have a rich soil and rainfall, things are easy.

Most of my soil is disintegrated rock. I have pony poop and 150 years of cow ranching poop to build on. I do have 300 yr old oaks around. But most of it is wild oats growing in rock chips,
There is a reason this has always been cattle country Dont think there is enough water to turn it into vineyards.

Don't know about you, but I am so tired of buying potting soil and having it look like ground up trees. Even the Miracle Grow types. I buy for containers because I have to grow my tomatoes that way.

I ran across this yesterday and when I opened it I was pleasantly surprised. Super fine, dark with zero tree pieces. It says it has coconut coir. I got 1,5 cu for the same price of 1 cu of the Miracle Grow. Hopefully, it performs as good as it looks.

It says organic.

Does anyone have a garden journal or planner they really like? I am wanting to get one where I can record information because I am so forgetful now, but I am overwhelmed with the options. I get lost with a simple notebook, but I have been jotting down notes in my regular planner.
I used to use the Burpee on line planting journal. It was nice. You go to My Garden and put in your plants and it shows dates for planting etc. Won't be helpful after an EMP though. ;)

The wife just uses a spiral bound note book. She has maps of everything she plants in the garden and lists all the trees and berries in the orchard. It works for her.
She's planting 75 tomato plants of several varieties right now. She lists each variety on her map. Next she'll start planting 75 super hot pepper plants, about 10 different varieties.

I keep forgetting which notebook I wrote things down in. Funny enough. I just realized this isn't the first time I have asked this, either.

I feel so stupid these days!

Don’t feel stupid. I had a friend that it took that it took 5 years to recover 50% of what I call chemo burn.
My wife is undergoing a slow decline (and she is brilliant) with her immunosuppressants. She has been putting her medical knowledge into a theory about her long time nickel sensitivity for her orphan disease. Still over the heads of her specialists at one of the 2 research centers for it.

Thank you. Some days my brain feels clearer than others. I am sorry to hear your wife is struggling. It can be so frustrating!

I started a journal years ago of the dates I plant specific plants , harvest dates and such . This book I refer to when I plan my garden strategy from year to year . This book , is not a special made book but is simply a book like someone might use to take notes in a school . Actually I record other activities also in the book such as bee keeping related matters .

Look up the benefits of taking Ginkgo leaves . It increases blood flow through the brain , improving memory . I wrote about the benefits of these leaves for type 2 diabetic control on another thread but I don't think I mentioned its improvement in brain function . I take a teaspoon daily and can say it works .

You are far from stupid or any like that! You are very busy and still recovering. Plus things are spinning out of order so quickly in our world that I dare say most people feel just like you do.

Ginkgo makes my face red and tingley. Didn't like the feeling. Is that a usual effect?

I have never had any result like that . Perhaps what you were taking was not pure but modified with something else added . I take pure ground up leaves . When I was talking about this at my last medical check up , they were questioning me about how I consumed the leaves . I simply dip my teaspoon into a bag of dried and ground leaves , put it in my mouth being careful not to inhale as that will make me choke , take a sip of water and slosh it around wetting the leaves in my mouth and swallow it . I don't trust the crap sold over the counter and buy mine from E Bay from some poor soul that needs the money enough to pick those leaves , dry and grind them up for a meager amount of money .
