Okay so I am a Navy Vet, I have been out for almost 2 years. I have started to plan for when s@*# hits the fan. I have some weapons knives mostly but I do have one rifle. I am fixing the chicken coop and green houses. I am getting chicks in February and starting a garden as well. I know how to sustain for myself and 12 others, but my wife and I are moving to her parents guest house so I wont have a lot of space to work with but I will do my best to make it work. I have a lot of stuff I need to do and I am on a fixed income. So slowly I will be adding to everything. My mother-in-law has talked to me about all kinds of things and how she is planning for the end of days, she is not very good at things and she can not go with out her phone for more than a minute. So my wife and I are the ones that seem to be carrying the family. Her mom is a drunk and her dad doesn't have any skills what so ever. My wife who is 17 weeks pregnant helps me with everything from planning to fixing the house. Any advice on prepping would be great.

howdy from a Texan .... and welcome to the forum and family...there's quiet a few knowledgeable folks here they'll gladly tell ya what you need to know,or at least point ya in the right direction and/or give ya a good idea or 2..and by all means jump right on in with any replies you have on a topic.and start new topics if/when needed...

welcome from this side of the puddle!
nice to read that you have skills in gardening and raising your own "food",as Maverick said in an other thread survival is more that just guns..though they are fun too.

Howdy, BigBW. I'm in Texas too, up in the panhandle. Sounds like you've got some challenges to face, but I feel like you've got the right mindset for it. Feel free to contact me if I can be of any help. Cheers!

Welcome from another Texan! Since you are staying at your in-laws and your MIL has been talkin, I am just curious what her thoughts are when the sh@@ hits the fan? Your starting a garden and getting chicks which are great steps. I would think a lot has to do with how much land you have on what you can maybe raise for meat too. Rabbits are a good option for a small backyard since they multiply quickly. I talked to a recent customer who swears by homegrown rabbit meat. Says it is the best that you could ever get. I have only had the wild kind that the boys shot and brought home so can not say an opinion to that one. If a bit more get some goats, sheep, or pigs. . . or if a few acres cattle. Goats expect one to three a year with a doe, Pigs expect around three litters ranging from 9 - 14 piglets a year. I haven't had any sheep so not sure on that one. . . or rabbits for that matter, but I know of at least one member who has been raising them. If a well can be drilled, I would highly recommend it.
