How did I save money today?

The Aldi lady was restocking meat and recognized me as a frequent shopper. She said, "I know you like deals...and I got one for you". So she had a case of family pack chicken legs (Perdue brand), were 99 cents a lb, she was putting a half off sticker on each. So I split the case with an amish lady that was hovering....put 5 family packs in the freezer. So 49 cents a lb.

I'm going tomorrow after I finish paying bills.

Haven't Spent any $'s...Yet...!!!

I didn't save money today (shame on me) BUT I will tomorrow. I'm changing my internet provider & phone provider tomorrow. I'm not doing it to save money (but I will save), but doing it because my provider is more interested in making money than having happy customers. That low level kind of pissed me off & then we had a new company moving in town who are offering "deals" If I was happy with the service, I'd pay more but I won't pay more if I'm unhappy.

But maybe I will save money today. I've just been made aware (by my wife) of the cost of our insurance every month. It's not high, it's obscene. So I'll call my son (my agent, who warned me a while back it was going up) & cut some stuff.

I saved $901 today, does that count? :D
Finally got a replacement refrigerator on the way to replace that POS I have kept limping along for years.
Regular price: $2,499 , paid $1,598.
It was out of stock so delivery is set for July 12th.
We'll be ok because the old one still works*, (if you consider 52° 'refrigerated').
DW deserves all the credit. She spent 2 days shopping every place for one that meets our specs.
I looked at the display model today and was impressed at the wide-open spaces in it. :)
Oh, and I was amazed how many people besides us hate the useless ice & water dispenser on the outside of the door.
Most models don't have one.
Started to put this in the Good News Only thread because it is a 2-fer.
Today we got our new refrigerator! Already down to 42° in 2 hours! :woo hoo:
So glad to see the POS old one go out the front door.:D Been keeping it limping along by rebooting it every month, for years.
Second one:
Been listening to the A/C run A LOT the last month with our 90°+ temps every day.
It has been doing a great job keeping us comfy.
Been thinking about the power bill (since it is mine), told DW to burn every KW she wanted, we ain't pinching pennies on power.

Power bill came in today, was expecting $300-320.
It was $249.
On topic: Years ago when the old A/C kept breaking down, I told 'em "change the whole damsystem out:waiting:".
Best $7500 we ever invested!
Pays us dividends every month.:D

Doya' think this is a beautiful sight for sore eyes after waiting for a month?
Cycling perfectly between 36-38°, and the $901 still in my checking account feels wonderful! :D
(yes, I will finally stop bragging now:rolleyes:)

I didn't save money today, I spent it because I saved some money in the past. I got to looking at my water barrels & the connections. When I bought the connections, I bought locally what they had that was cheap. As I looked at them I realized that it would take a pump to force water through those small hoses & there's no pump. Meaning that most of the water that goes into them fills the first barrel & then overflows out rather than into the next barrel. So I bought 3 regular size hoses at Walmart (I know many hate WM but they were half the price of anywhere else) & I ordered the connectors from Amazon. Cost for buying the right hoses & fittings, 30 bucks. I may do the same thing to the other set of barrels coming up.

Been staying home.
Cooking at home.
Cooking 2 days a week, but eat for several days.
Example:
5 pounds of hamburger becomes miniature meatloaves. hamburgers, hamburger soup Shepards Pie etc.
My meatloaf has lots of vegetables in them.
I will post in recipes.
Pot roast is pot roast one day, next time it will be come stew, fajatitas.

We haven't really saved much money in the last few months. This month we bought 2 not real expensive pieces of crystal, so that's less than normal. But for the last 2 months it's been a lot of little things that we needed, kind of odds & ends. I have no clue how much they will add up to but there has to be 20 of them.

I did call my oldest son (my insurance agent) & cut our older car's insurance down to just liability & canceled the insurance on my truck which isn't running. That cut our insurance bill down by almost 400 dollars so that's a savings.
And we are switching cable, phone & internet providers (one's already done) & that will save about $100 per month.

Looks just like ours. Is it a Frigidaire? Must be pronounced Frigid Aire. My Nana pronounced it Frigi Daire. It took me a while as a young kid what it might really mean. 🤣 Or she called it an ice box.

Actually, it's a Maytag .

Have a large roast beef in the slow cooker since early, eldest cooking dinner today. Bought on sale for €6, and its huge- will make a beef pie out of half of it.
Went out this morning (bank hol) to get milk, surprised how many people were about- but worth it to get some discounts for the freezer. Cod and chicken fillets half price.
Everything is creeping up, so incredibly expensive;even if I don't need to get anything if I'm in a town early I stop and check the discount fridge. Scored a load of bread rolls also.

I posted a while back about how I was going to save money by switching to another internet/phone/tv provider. Well I partially switched & found out that the new company lied to me on several issues. So....In a little while I'm going back to my old provider & have them come out & switch me back. Then I'll tell the new providers to come pick up their equipment. I'm sure that I'll pay a fee to both of them but when we make mistakes we need to pay for them & hopefully learn something.
