What we do may not work for you (or your son) is this. We have all of our reoccurring bills charged to a credit card. That way they are never late & it even gives us a little more time before paying the bill. Also, our credit cards are cash back cards, meaning that we earn 1% back on everything we charge. So, we make a little bit on everything we charge & that adds up over time. Just a suggestion if it will work for you.
Thank you. That’s a good idea, but some can’t get credit, only debit. (Not me)
Some serious planning and change need to happen. Till then, the door is open for meals, showers, laundry, and sleep if need be. I’m sorry, and hate to sound like a mean parent, but repeatedly bailing out with no changes doesn’t help anyone.

Tootsie I totally understand. Been there & done that. I've "helped" both of my son's out over the years. Bought the oldest a used car. The youngest I've bailed out twice for about $11,000 total. The oldest is now (I'm thinking) worth a LOT more than we are. For a few years he was paying more in taxes than we made. The youngest, well I wouldn't be surprised to get a call tonight wanting to "borrow" money, which he doesn't pay back.

It’s the hardest thing. It shouldn’t be, but it’s what we’ve been dealt. For whatever reason, kids haven’t followed our ways and learned responsibility. I just don’t know. And I guess there’s some things we’re just not going to get answers on. They’re adults. We can always love them but not enable them.
Maybe, just maybe, the grandkid(s) are seeing and learning. Maybe it will sink in better to them that to live beneath your means, save, and having a roof over your head and a home is a top priority.
So, it get this back on topic just a bit, how did I save money today? I got up early today and made my granddaughter’s school lunch, and saw her off to school with an “I love you”. After school, she made herself some supper here with food in the cupboard and I was able to supply some other needs with things I bought cheaply. I saved by not running to town for fast food, buying things not on sale as is their normal. Pennies, I know, but also a wee bit towards something to pass on and better yet, hope of a good example.

We bought new appliances a few years ago. We had a power outage and the clock on the stove could not be set to the correct time. Everything else works just fine. A day or so later my wife called to tell me she called the mom and pop store. Then called me to say it would be $125 to come look plus a second trip $125 and parts. So probably $500 minimum. I said we need to talk about it. After thinking about it I had a solution. At 11:55 a.m. I unplugged it and plugged it back in at 12:00. Fixed it 👍
