Live far from your birthplace?

In the early 90’s, I heard / read that about about 85% of Americans continue living within 20 miles of their birthplace. I find that hard to believe. I think society has become highly mobile. As for me, I live 300 +/- miles from my birthplace.

1320 miles. Would live near there if I could. When I was born, my parents lived about an hour from the hospital. Then when I was a kid we moved about an hour further, closer to New Joisey. Eventually my own family moved to Texas about 15 years ago +/- .
My sisters live just over a thousand miles from our birthplace, our brothers about 80 miles from our birthplace. They are all in their 60s and 70s. Of my inlaws...my LH's sibs, they all moved out of Ohio where they were born because their dad got a transfer.
So out of all of these people, none stayed close to their birthplace. My mother in law moved back to within 30 miles of her birthplace after her husband died to chase or be chased by an old flame. LOL

Lived in 3 houses, moving to the last one. (41 miles from this one.)

I'm not sure how many miles it is..but kinda 2 states away the way it is situated.
Many of the folks I grew up with still live in my hometown or came back after being gone for awhile..

about 100 miles or so, I was born in Clifton, Bristol but never lived there, I've spent most of my life living in Devon, 40 years in Plymouth man and boy, now I live in a rural location north of Dartmoor.
