I know...
But I just love this sign.

I can not find one.

I want one.

At the entrance to my driveway.

Jim

I don't like the taste of caned potatoes store or home, never did that is one veggie that cannning changes the taste too much.
I have never really used canned potatoes. one time when my daughter was pretty young, she was riding in the grocery cart while we were shopping at a restaurant supply store. We went by a #10 can of potatoes. I kept going. Daughter kept saying, "We gotta go back to potatoes." It was actually her trying to entertain me as well as get those potatoes. We eventually went back and got that large can of potatoes, but I have no memory of eating them. I can tell you, she never asked for canned potatoes again.

Potatoes was not one of the things we canned when I was growing up. Potatoes were kept in the basement where it was cool, and in the spring there would be a few with sprouts for planting.

I watched a video by a woman of her canning her potato harvest. She said when she used them, she just heated them up, mashed them and it was a quick way to have them ready for a meal.

I even tried using them in potato salad to kill th flavor and it barely hid it. I put extra celary seeds, mayo, pickles and that unusual taste still came thru.I caned about 30 lb.s of the things. Something about being under high pressure brings out the worst in them.

I need to get my old truck running again. I haven't driven it since November... just to busy with a thousand other things.

I just gotta ask, what made you paint a Chevy engine, Ford blue?
Punishment for leaving you stranded one time?

Most people wouldn't have noticed! lol

The simplest answer is usually the correct one... Ford blue was the only engine paint the autoparts store had in stock the day I bought parts to change out the engine.

That stands to reason. The Fords shown below don't use much engine paint

Half Gallon Canning Jars - Safety Issues and Where to Get the Jars

What is the correct processing time for canning in half-gallon canning jars?

This is a very common question since processing times in a water bath and pressure canners usually stop at quart size jars. The reason no one publishes a processing time for that size jar is the food scientists have tested them and found them to be generally unsafe. Highly acid foods that are very liquid (fruit juices) seems to be the one use considered safe. The jars are simply too big to ensure adequate and uniform heat penetration.

Here's what the USDA's National Center for Home Food Preservation at the University of Georgia says about canning in half-gallon jars:

What can I process in half-gallon canning jars?

At least one canning jar manufacturer is selling half-gallon canning jars. That manufacturer has a printed note on the top that says half-gallonjars are only used for some highly acidic foods in a boiling water canner, with instructions to call a toll-free number for the instructions. When we last called, the only choices are grape juice and apple juice, as we also recommend.

The only processes that USDA, the National Center for Home Food Preservation and the University of Georgia have to recommend for half-gallon jars are for very acidic fruit juices (and juice only):
Apple Juice and Grape Juice. This process time is not to be used for tomato juice, for example.

There are no other research-tested processes for half-gallon jars. Boiling water processes for other foods for jars larger than those published with recipes (usually pints and/or quarts) cannot be extended by any formula to a larger jar.

We are aware that there are historical recommendations for canning foods in half-gallon jars. However, these are not currently accepted or endorsed by the USDA, Cooperative Extension System or U.S. manufacturers of home canning jars.

I use them a lot. To store specialty grains, dried coconut, and my chocolate chip collection. I seal them with the food saver jar sealer. Oh, and I filled them with homemade hot cocoa mix and dehydrated marshmallows on top for Christmas gifts. Never thought to can in them. My cousin canned grape juice from our grapes at the farm last year, but she used quart jars.

Where do you get them? It seems that I get all of my canning jars at the local hardware store. I am always on a mission when I go. I want to get x amount of a certain size. Maybe they have them, but I wasn't looking for them, so I missed them.

My son did something similar with a hunting rifle. We had a coyote problem. We also had a mosquito problem along with him having to study for his Mcats. He took the swivel off his Dad's office chair and made a mount for it. He then wired his laptop to run the swivel and fire the gun. He did the programming himself.

He stayed in a tent and studied and when something came after the bait, he used the computer to aim and fire. When he got bored he dismantled the system, put his Dad's chair back together and never did it again. He got 3 coyotes while laying in a tent reading books.

He originally wanted to go into robotics but ended up an MD.

tazo, the cat reminds me a lot of my late cat Bitsy (the one who got bitten by a snake). She was such a sweet cuddly kitty.

I've lost quite a few vehicles to falling tree branches & trees. Lost most of my barn too.

LOL. A friend of mine got a Ford, registered it, got it insured, & the engine blew up the same day. His great uncle was a chevy man and teased him about it. Recently my friend was looking for another vehicle & the car salesman showed him a Ford. Salesman knew him & his family so my friend said "Uncle Cleo would haunt me if I got a Ford!"
We used to have Ford vehicles but they declined in quality over the years. Now we have Hondas. They aren't for everyone but they work for us & at least they aren't Kias.
