My little offroad rocket on Otay Mountain (that's OH-tye) down by the Mexican border... sometimes, while riding in this awesome venue, I'd see files of illegal aliens making their way through the brush, lol.
That's the Western Spur, a dirt & gravel road which was recently "sealed" before this pic was taken... made the surface faster & easier to navigate, and also made it easier for Border Patrol vehicles to make time up and down the hill. The Western Spur was 7 miles long, the Eastern Spur was also 7 miles long, and the Northern Spur was something like 4 or 5 miles long... all three spur roads met at 'Doghouse Junction' not far from the summit of Otay Mountain, which was somewhere around 3500' elevation. Nice view of Baja and the islands from the summit... I'd take my little rocket out there and ride for several hours, rarely seeing anybody but illegal aliens and BP personnel, lol. That entire area was a wilderness preserve, protected from development, and it made for a nice getaway from the Big City... above the smog layer too, once ya rode high enough, lol. I had many a fun session on those spur roads, not a bad venue for being so close to my home (only 20-25 miles from Coronado by road). The bike went into the back seat of my car for the paved stretches... no future in riding that little bike in city traffic, lol.
P.S. The 14-mile-long whaleback ridge known by **** locals as Otay Mountain is also called the San Ysidro Range by geologists...
