Hope you're feeling better soon Jaz. We found once we quit eating processed food then had a hankering for a certain thing & would splurge, it was gross. The worse was a coffee cake we liked, made one after about a year or two - Blek! Chemical cake.

Its like that when we go out to eat. Everything just tastes off.

Last weekend we canned some soup. We are to the point where we need to check all our home canned meals, not because they are going bad but because we are eating them.....

OH, like @LadyLocust and @Terri9630 we have found that our favorite take out food now makes us ill. I think it is the heavy use of seasonings and fat in the processed foods that we lose the taste for....

FYI last summer we canned for 8 solid weeks, we are hoping that we don't have to can that much this spring....

Once you get away from the bad foods you will lose your taste for them.

We're the same way with take out food. We haven't ordered a burger and fries where granddaughter works in our little town for about a year. We'll order only soft serve ice cream there. They load on the salty seasoning when they cook the burgers in the morning and keep them on hot hold. I feel pukey afterwards, but am used to not cooking with salt because of my husband's dietary stuff. I do like a chic fil a salad with chicken on it, and that doesn't bother me. Also the Qdoba chain food, their stuff is fresh and not seasoned much or at all.

I had to buy a new pair of boots. After the last storm I did have to shovel the driveway, and the boots I usually wear were very tight. I have had them a long time and don't wear them very often. Foolish me. They are now a size to small.

Something I had not factored in; your feet continue to grow most of your life. I probably have several pairs of boots that I could still squeeze into, but would not be very comfortable. They are better suited to barter than use. Live and learn.

I just looked for a recipe for scrapple.
" Scrapple is a dish made from scraps of pork meat, usually trimming, combined with cornmeal and spices. The individual ingredients are cooked separately and then put together in a loaf pan to chill. When the loaf forms, it's sliced and served. ... In the South, scrapple is often called livermush.
My family used beef components. Of course, the scrapple side of my family was first and foremost cattle farmers. I've seen beef recipes, pork recipes, and the last one my mother tried was a 50-50 recipe. I think we all like what we grew up with, though, am I right? I'm partial to the beef recipe...although I'd eat them all.

Yup.

My mother taught me what I like (save that elbow macroni, cottage cheese, and sugar thing... ). The Princess has taken well to learning how to keep me fed.

There is a product called "boot stretch" that works okay - might help if they're just snug. "your feet continue to grow most of your life" this part is usually because folks gain weight as they age. There feet spread to carry the load. Those who don't gain weight, not so much. (Not saying not all, just not so much.)

I thought it was interesting that I heard a local radio show telling it's listeners to get prepared for a trucker strike and shortage of supplies here in the US. He said if truckers here do what they're doing in Canada, the store shelves will be empty in a week. Ya think? LOL! To anyone who can't see this coming, they're gonna have a hard time of it. He said "just grab an extra pack of TP or paper towel the next time your in the store....and maybe a couple extra cans of food." It's a conservative radio show, so I'd bet most of his listeners already have some things put back.

I haven't done a whole lot recently b/c I've been busy at work, but I have been cleaning out a cupboard here and there to make sure stock gets rotated. I have several more cupboards and cabinets to go through though. This is supposed to be the time of year to get caught up on those things but it seems my time is in short supply. I actually should be organizing now instead of on this forum....LOL!

I hope to get to the store this weekend and get some fresh veges. If I have time, I'll take a quick run of the isles and stock up on some more shelf stable foods. I'm all set with TP. My kids will probably get TP as part of their inheritance. 😁 Sure, think about mom every time you use TP. Awwww!

I think that many people have tuned into getting more prepared, but we can be sure that there are some who are still in denial of the need.

I always thought it would be fun if you had a friend who you totally trusted to swap and clean/organize the other person's house. No distractions or sidetracks, no "oh those are the photos I was looking for" etc. When I used to clean house for other folks, I would leave a little stack on the counter of any odds and ends I found. Not mine to deal with. My pantry could use an elf or two to tidy up during the night.

For whatever reason, my wife seems to be overwhelmed with a feeling of impending doom. She is obsessed with storing more water and gasoline. I don't know why. I don't know what she has been watching or reading. Does anybody else feel this way?
A couple years ago, I asked a dear friend of mine who would usually go to the store every other day or so, to please get an extra bag of beans and a few extra canned goods when she shopped. There was just something in me that said, "Get ready." (No idea if she listened as we've not spoken for a year - I don't listen to her Bernie loving rants.) We've always kept a decent store simply because we lived so far out of town that it wasn't an option. I looked at it in a "what am I forgetting/missing" nudge from within. If she is feeling it, it's probably best to get those things.

Water is certainly simple. I have saved a ton of food grade containers and bottles that can be used for water. I have some gas cans, I think the Army used to call them jerry cans, that I can dig out. I'm just scratching my head.

I have probably been prepping for over 20 years. In that time I can't think of one prediction that has come true or been correct. Has the economy collapsed? Has there been a civil war? Has any of the climate change BS happened? There is just a part of me that feels like I am in the story "The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf". Thousands of people make predictions, and none of it happens. It won't make me stop prepping. Natural disasters are reason enough to prep, but more and more, the predictions fall on deaf ears.

We have the most dangerous jerks in charge right now! Be afraid, be very afraid!

If nothing else, you are hedging against inflation just that much more.

Yes and its making me nervous about driving across the country in April.
