Personally I would like to have 3. Give us cover for back to back years of crop failure.
FWIW, some canned goods with the pull rings may not last 3 years in storage. We tossed 1 at 5 years stored as it was totally black inside with no liquid. The second was 3 years in storage and the can liner was all black inside but food looked ok.
Tomorrow I will check a few more cans. I had wondered why some LDS preppers were talking about dehydrating canned goods close to date. Maybe they had an idea. Seemed odd, but something dried is better than nothing.

For stored foods, I won't buy anything with a pull ring. I really don't plan for store bought canned goods for more than 3 years anyway. Dried foods keep much better

For whatever reason, my wife seems to be overwhelmed with a feeling of impending doom. She is obsessed with storing more water and gasoline. I don't know why. I don't know what she has been watching or reading. Does anybody else feel this way?
😂Only for the last fifty years or so.🤣 You do know which site you're on?

Pull ring canned goods will not last as long as regular cans because the thin metal on the top will degrade quicker. If the can is black inside the food is bad. I have eaten canned food twenty years old. If the seal is good the food is fine. there have been canned food tested after over 100 years and as long as the seal was good the food was edible.

My daughter and I water bathed canned 3 jars of cowboy candy and 2 jars of pickled jalapeños. Not much but it was her first time canning anything and my first time water bath canning. They all sealed!
Walmart had cases of canning jars for $4 each so we bought 22 cases. We probably didn’t need any but…We went ahead and bought 14 pullets, a 110 gallon watering trough, extra heat lam bulbs, 30lb chick feed, and more seeds at Atwood’s and then went to the Hispanic grocery store to stock up on some meat and spices.
Finally got around to cleaning out the master bedroom closet. It took half a day but I actually have available space in there so I bought a few containers for bulk dry goods storage to go in there.

I had to buy a new pair of boots. After the last storm I did have to shovel the driveway, and the boots I usually wear were very tight. I have had them a long time and don't wear them very often. Foolish me. They are now a size to small.

Something I had not factored in; your feet continue to grow most of your life. I probably have several pairs of boots that I could still squeeze into, but would not be very comfortable. They are better suited to barter than use. Live and learn.
I have gone through foot growth as an adult a few times. When I was going to school in Washington, DC, I walked a lot to and from school and for whatever other things I needed, such as printer and art supplies, groceries. By the end of my first summer, my shoes were all too small and I needed new ones.

More recently, my shoes and boots have gotten tighter. I am not someone who does lots of shopping and when I buy clothing, wear it for years. I have several to rotate, so I can do this.

Agree with the pull top cans not lasting long. I do buy some scratch and dent, but not when they have a pull top. I've dehydrated canned food near its expiration before. I had three flats of chopped tomatoes that were about to expire, so I dehydrated them and powdered them for tomato powder. Have also hear of people recanning #10 cans of stuff to pint size. That is, if the #10 can was a good deal. I'm also thinking three years storage is a good idea. I just keep stacking. It depends how many of our children show up, really. But then our gardens would get bigger because I'd have more helpers. I think I'll just keep the incubator running till fall. Heard about the chicken plants shutting down in Georgia. At least we'll have our own chicken meat.

Y'all gonna laugh at my new cast iron skillet... I have one 8" non-stick skillet. All my cast iron is 10" or larger. I've needed a little skillet for years, like for cooking 1 burger or sweating onions down... I saw this today, a 6" cast iron skillet. It's lodge, they must have changed their process again because this one has a smooth cooking surface.

I have a couple that size - use them all the time. They are handy. I'm betting you'll love it!

Ordered in a few more turkey poults that'll come in a few months. The hens (3) started laying, so hopefully I'll be hatching, too. Put our order in today for French gray goslings. Supposed to be meat heavy. Those come in a month, so I'll need to get a new run put in by May/June. I won't be able to control the breeding or the eggs if I let them free range, so I won't. So, more meat besides just chicken. We always have chicken.

You go girl!

Now is a great time to optimize your resources.

Well, a step forward, and a step back. Our dog got off his tie out somehow this evening and took down an undisclosed number of guineas. Granddaughter saw him standing in the driveway when she came home from her date and found a few dead guineas. We'll have to do a dead bird count tomorrow. Geesh. Dogs. They are the worst for free ranging animals. The geese will be in a predator proof run like the chickens and turkeys are when they are old enough to go out.

when one looks around and sees increasing harvest and food production problems, increasing inflation and rising prices, wide open borders with over 3 million strangers now inc country we know nothing about, increasing delivery and transportation problems, rising fuel prices, weather problems hindering crop production, solar minimum already started causing shorter growing seasons, shortages in normal items, especially meats, with avian flu taking out chickens and turkeys, dont forget the push to accept bugs are the new protein, potential war or terror attacks, a desperate political party whose nuts got caught in a vice and are desperate to either retain power, cause a mess for distraction --well, kinda seems like theres no such thing as too much food or supplies. something my gramma who survived and raised a family thru the great depression was fond of saying---its gonna happen again. never trust the banks and always have enough food to cover you til you can harvest end of summer.
