It Was
======

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,

it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,

it was the epoc of belief, it was the epoc of incredulity,

it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness,

it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,

we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,

we were all going direct to heaven,
we were all going direct the other way

in short, the period was so far like the present period...

This was written by Charles Dickens, from the novel,
"A Tale of Two Cities," about the times of the French revolution.

Sounds very much like today doesn't it?

There is nothing new under the sun.

Zac Gallifinackis quote: " so, how does it feel to be the LAST black President?".
Bwahahahahah!

"I have not yet begun to fight" Captain Joh Paul Jones 23 September,1779
" Don't give up the ship!" Captain James Lawrence 1 June, 1813
"Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" Admiral David Glasgow Farragut 5 August, 1864
" We have met the enemy and they are ours......." Oliver Hazard Perry 10 September, 1813
" If fear is cultivated it will become stronger, if faith is cultivated it will acheive mastery." Captain John Paul Jones
" It seems to be a law of nature, inflexible and inexorable, that those who will not risk cannot win." Captain John Paul Jones

When Was This?
=======================

A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit.
Our system of credit is privately concentrated. The growth of
the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands
of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of
the most completely controlled and dominated, governments in the
civilized world — no longer a government by free opinion, no
longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority,
but a government by the opinion and the duress of small groups of
dominant men.

~from Woodrow Wilson's The New Freedom: A Call for the
Emancipation of the Generous Energies of a People (New York and
Garden City: Doubleday, Page and Company, 1913)~

The Portrait
=================

Paint a portrait of life to be proud of that could not be sold
for all the money on earth.

Hang that portrait in your mind and understand its ever
presence.

Reflect on every brush stroke that makes all the mountains and
valleys and rivers and skies the most beautiful in the land.

Share your portrait with others but beware their brushes.

Select only those whose brush will add to the beauty and
structure of your masterpiece."

~Chris Ensor~

You may know me.
I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest helper; and I am your heaviest burden.
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am at your command.
Half of the tasks you do might as well be turned over to me.
I'm able to do them quickly.
I'm able to do them the same every time if that's what you want.
I am easily managed. All you've got to do is be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want it done and after a few lessons
I'll do it automatically the rest of your life.
I am the servant of all great men and women, of course;
and I am servant to all the failures as well.
I've made all the great individuals who have ever been great.
And I've made all the failures that have ever failed.
But I work with all the precision of a marvelous computer.
I work with the intelligence of the human being.
Be easy on me and I will destroy you.
Be firm with me and I'll put the whole world at your feet.
What am I?
I am A Habit!

~Dr. Dennis P. Kimbro~

The journey is better than the inn.
~Cervantes~
I don't even know who Cervantes is, but I've always felt that working hard towards a goal is more satisfying than reaching it. Once you're there, it like ok, now what?

Your Advice?
=================

Suppose your best friend came to you with a problem.

Suppose their problem was the same problem you have now.

What advice would you give them?

Follow the good advice that you would give them.

Often the wisdom for our own problems is already within.

You want to be good at something
...know what your capable of.
You want to be great at something...
Know your limitations and entice them to compete at the areas you excellent at.

To quote a friend:
" if you can't eat it or f&@k it, you don't need it".
I know it's not his, but he is the only person I know of that uses it all the time.

- Murphy's Laws

  1. If you perceive that there are four possible ways in which something can go wrong, and circumvent these, then a fifth way, unprepared for, will promptly develop.
  2. Left to themselves, things tend to go from bad to worse.
  3. If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

- Zymurgy's Law of Evolving System Dynamics

The probability of anything happening is in inverse ratio to its desirability.
- Gumperson's Law

Nothing is impossible for the man who doesn't have to do it himself.
- Weiler's Law
  1. Computers are unreliable, but humans are even more unreliable.
  2. Any system that depends upon human reliability is unreliable.
  3. Undetectable errors are infinite in variety, in contrast to detectable errors, which by definition are limited.
  4. Investment in reliability will increase until it exceeds the probable cost of errors, or until someone insists on getting some useful work done.
- Gilb's Laws of Unreliability

  1. You can't win.

The Peril Of Freedom
============================

If the self-discipline of the free cannot match the iron
discipline of the mailed fist, in economic, scientific, and all
other kinds of struggles as well as the military, then the
peril of freedom will continue to rise.
~John F. Kennedy (1917-1963), 35th president of the U.S.~

True Light
==============

My mind is incapable of conceiving such a thing as a soul.
I may be in error, and man may have a soul;
but I simply do not believe it.
~Thomas A. Edison (1847-1931)~

from The Mountain:
Edison was considered one of the greatest inventors who ever
lived. He is credited with the invention of the light bulb.

Yet, Edison did not believe that man had a soul.

He was wrong about AC current also as all of us are wrong about
some things.

True light does not come from a bulb.

Recognition and Honor is Coming
=============================================

You will be recognized and honored as a community leader.

Yes you will, as lead the community.

You don't have to be elected mayor. All you need to do is set
an example of how a person should live.

No one is perfect but many are examples.

Sooner or later, whether formally or informally, you will be
recognized as a community leader.

Just lead and don't worry about the recognition.

It will come.
