Remember the good ole days, before Joe Bribem & Komrade Kumala, when Dollar Tree was still a Dollar?

I have never been inside any of the so-called Dollar stores. I figured that sold mostly cheap plastic junk.
Their food section is my primary go-to. They have shelf stable milk, oversized cans of beans, pie fillings, soups, plenty of survivalist pantry type items, and discounted bread & bagels (still with good dates). They have organizational bins, party & gift supplies, batteries, cheap first aid & toiletries. Dollar Tree was unique pre-Joe Bribem....EVERYTHING was ONE DOLLAR.

I loved DT & will admit that I assumed the price increase to $1.25 & them adding higher priced items would spell the end. As it turned out all of the things I pay $1.25 are worth more than that to me. And the most expensive items I generally don't buy. I'll add that you can find some of their $1.25 items for sale on Amazon for $10.00. Two of the items that I buy there are generic CLR & also a grease cleaner. Both are great!

I'll add that there are 2 good reasons to never shop at Dollar Tree & places like Dollar Tree:
1. You've got enough money that you don't have to care about what you spend.
2. You don't care about ever becoming wealthy.

Dollar stores, DG and dollar tree sometimes have things you just can't get at Walmart.
Before Joe, a can of sausage gravy was under a buck, now its a buck eighty. a can of those
Canadian-made Pringles clones. (Actually better IMHO.) were 80 cents, now they cost as much as Pringles, and don't get me started on meat prices! I haven't had a steak in 4 years!

I may have to stop in there sometime and check them out.
Speaking of days gone by, I remember .23 cent per gallon gas. I could fill up my 64 Chevy pickup for $5.00. I was working on a ranch at that time making $400 per month. Life was good.

Appalachia Homestead (Patera) just did an interesting youtube today regarding Aldi prices. In three years, the same 17 items she's logged have gone up 55%. Last year November till now on the same went up 7%. Inflation is insane. Biden admin is insane not to acknowledge it.
I shop Dollar Tree. Pickles, chopped garlic, pasta, box milk, sponges. I pay $5 for the laundry soap. Of course I liked it better at a buck. We'll see what happens to the price of those Chinese products when Trump takes office.

Ditto.

I presume the stuff they sell is leftovers or unsold products that did not meet the already low-low standards of Walmart, rural or low-income neighborhood convenience or grocery stores, or Wish/Temu. I would be afraid to eat food that was discounted to that level.

And perhaps, to some degree, because I am becoming quite bougie as my sugar mama pampers me.

I go to a couple local ..Dollar Tree.. stores maybe 3-4 times a year..
Yes.. They are good for a number of consumable items, not just food, but things that ware out periodically.. Better prices than Walmart and thrift stores at times..

Supposedly.. There are a number of ..Dollar General.. and another type of dollar store (?) in the area that are closing.. I can't tell you the difference in any of them.. There seems quite a difference in the local Dollar Tree stores..

This is my limited experience..

That's the exact same stuff I buy at Dollar Tree. Their lentils are cheaper than Walmart (great with fresh carrots added). I buy DT's Southgate chili & beef stew which is made in Nashville, and the shelf stable milk which is made in Metairie, LA - - a lot of the food items are made in the US so I don't think you and I will be hurting too much in the tariff area for DT.
Whatever Trump needs to do to right this sinking ship of a country....so be it. (Sick & tired of being sick & tired.)

There's not a dollar tree anywhere near me. Several dollar general stores though, one about 5 miles away. It's handy for items I run out of for forgot to buy in town. Seems I stop a couple times a month for some little something.

Oh, and dad, bless his heart... twice I've had to go buy catfood because he bought cat litter by mistake at walmart. 🤣 He'll be 91 in a couple weeks, he gets a pass.

I watched a very interesting video on youtube last night, sorry no link, didn't save it. Some economics guy was talking about how they used to stop inflation in this country. He said Nixon put price and wage controls on everything, and that is what stopped inflation, but now, the big coorporations that make all the money pay off the government to stop that from happening because it is all about their profits.

Sounded very much believable. Anyone here alive and old enough to buy stuff when Nixon was President? Did this really happen? ( price controls)

You missed the good days, but you should check it out. Stuff like A1 Sauce for $1.25 (now, was $1). We used to get most of our fruit and veggies at the 99 Cent store. Literally a box of strawberries for a buck. They are $8.00 here yesterday. I didn't buy. 800% inflation - the gubbermint is lying as always.

Used to have so many great products for a buck. First aid supplies, pet stuff, 10 toothbrushes for a buck - with a little cup. Dish soap, ajax, etc., all for $1.

Nixon took us off the gold standard. I think he screwed it all up. Yep, I was alive.

Obummer and Joe Bribem were bank failure magnets. The gold standard would not have survived them. We've barely survived them.
Our economy is collapsing. I say blame all the greedy, crooked, lying politicians if you want to blame someone. I wouldn't point the finger at just one or two. They're all in it for themselves, and not for the American people.
But Sonya was asking about Nixon and price controls. And if anyone was alive and remembers then. That's why I brought up the gold standard.

was this gold standard related to the price controls? Did the price controls work, or were there huge shortages afterwards?
I vaguely remember something about gold in Fort Knox and some politician (forgot who) saying there is no gold, it's all gone..,,

100%, I'm with you. You'll also remember there was a time in history where the government dollar was one-for-one based on the gold standard... for a cash-in purpose. The RUN on banks was part of the equation when it was eliminated. Hence, my comment.

Back in the day they had price controls in various forms...only so much tobacco could be grown and sold..well you could grow it but not sale it....you had to have a permit thingy...same with milk..it was called base or something like that...govt bought up commodities and distributed them...govt cheese, powdered milk, peanut butter, dates etc.

we got caught printing moey after promising arrampco in saudi we wouldnt as long as they used us dollar for oil....then we tried holding on to company after promising we would release it back to them..that what triggered the embargo...finally they took over arrampco in 80's totally from u.s.

minimum wage was 3something...but you could get $40 for a racoon hide that hit large mark...$75 for redfox...gas was 57 cents here a gallon....i sold a big bundle of fur month of dec and thought who wants to work in factory when you can do this...lol...then bottom fell out in mid 80's....silver was high priced right before it fell..my uncle took $2.10 in mercury dimes and bought a brand new ruger blackhawk with scope with those dimes...then silver went to almost zero and was almost took off stock market.

in 1982 i sold some calves i raised...shorthorn crosses real nice...brought 65 cents a pound...i was happy camper then....lol

i worked all day for some cash...we put up 1000 square bales....for me to buy a new fishing pole !!!

A lot of it is, but you can find some good things at good prices. Some of the items are brand names, but made in smaller sizes, which can be ideal for a BOB or EDC. IMHO we buy many things where quality just doesn't matter. Do you look for quality in a candle or brown wrapping paper? Is a greeting card for any occasion worth the $5-$8.00 at Hallmark or would a $1.00 greeting card work just as well? Plastic dishes for a party or camping. Aluminum pans and baking dishes that will be discarded?

You can find some good value in those stores.
