He was defined by round badges, cheap suits, windbreakers, mustaches, brown liquor and cigarettes. Now all he does is reminisce about those days. He was definitely more concerned about his career than he was his child.

I really didn't mean to bring it up, because I really did hate it, but he was a deputy US marshal then special deputy assigned to a federal courthouse. So yes, he has some claim to fame and loves to tell everyone about it.
My mind just keeps thinking about the possibilities. As I said, I'm not trying to dig into your life or his, just thinking about the possibilities of where he worked, what he did, and who he saw.

Colorado has had some well known criminals incarcerated here. Super Max has many well known people.

Since I moved to Colorado, at one time I knew more than 10 people who were incarcerated, some being former students or their parents and some former colleagues. Most of them were incarcerated for something sexual. Go figure! I have visited people in prisons.

The thing about all humans is developmental stages. People in their 40's are in the most career focused time of their lives. I saw it in myself with all of the long hours I worked then as well as the classes and studying I did to improve my skills. Children do pay the price for their parent's careers. My daughter did.

He transported or guarded a few high profile people, some criminals and some witnesses, but much of what he did involved tracking down people who absconded or asset forfeiture stuff.

Don't I know it. Not a lot of people hand their pre-teen a snub nosed .38 and some cash and say "see you in a few days".

In some ways, similar to your current work.

In many ways, you raised yourself. You can be proud of how well you have done, and that you are not one of the incarcerated people. I have two nephews who have been. One was raised by a single father, the other by two parents and lived in a fairly nice neighborhood.

I suppose. Only I made sure to never bring a child into it and I make a lot more money. He really wanted me to join the marshal service post military and still hates that I became a contractor instead. Which is why he always says "contract killer" instead of security contractor.

Thanks, an older widow who lived in our building helped out a lot. The Army did too.

I think I am 3 phone calls and 12 text messages in on the day, and most of them express displeasure.

The lady and her sister finally made it to his townhouse this morning, which she described as “hoarders, frat house edition”. Crap stacked everywhere, empty plastic vodka bottles all over, sink full of dirty dishes, dirty bedding, dirty towels and it smelled like a long unattended roadside restroom. They started their adventure on a “memorabilia & valuables hunt” searching for things of value, financial or emotional. They each filled boxes with photos, some watches and jewelry, cash, some small containers full of coins, a stack of old letters to and from the lady’s mother, a couple wood keepsake boxes, and more. He has only been in that place for a handful of years, but they were still amazed at the amount of crap/trash/junk around. According to the assistant, she used to clean up and try and organize but was then chastised for doing so and told to stop so she did. The only mostly clean and organized place in the house was his office, which was set up inside a bedroom. And even that was a cluttered and discombobulated mass of papers, envelopes and ledgers. Seems he was not a fan of computers.

Inside the drawer of the desk was a “silver handgun”, which made both the lady, and her sister pause for a second and then the lady’s 5-6 shooting sessions with me came in handy. She picked up the handgun, pointed it in a safe direction, dropped the full mag, racked the slide, watched the chambered round drop to the floor, locked the slide back, then set it back down on the desk. She said her sister looked at her like she just did a triple back flip before saying “How in the world did you know how to do that!?” The lady just said, “We go shooting all the time”. The sister just pointed at the gun and said, “You’re taking that and any other guns we find”. Later the lady found another handgun in his nightstand, but she had to call me because it was a revolver, and the manual of arms baffled her. She was just happy the first one she found was a semi-auto so she could “look cool” in front of her sister.

They still have a lot more property sorting and organizing to do. A roll off dumpster is coming later today, and a document shredding company is arriving tomorrow morning to collect all the boxes of documents, old tax returns, etc. and turn them into confetti on site. Plus, they are hiring a packing/moving company and a cleaning service, who will come in and remove the remaining personal items, furniture, etc. and scrub the place so the realtor can list the place for sale. A broker is also coming out at some point to look at the cars, one of which is pretty new and very nice. The other is a slightly older BMW sedan. Needless to say, these two ladies are running their butts off trying to get everything in order before heading back to the city. I can feel the agitation and annoyance the lady is feeling with every call and text.

I think it's funny that the lady has such a strong preference for stainless or "silver" guns and then finds these two at her dad's.

After she shot one at the rental counter and loved it, I bought her one of these. A S&W 3913 LadySmith, which is a 3rd gen single stack version of the same gun her dad had in his desk. Also ironic.

I bought my wife a 3913 after her car wreck. Her grip is so bad she could even fire it or rack it. Traded it for a Glock 26. She shoots it very well, but can't rack it either

A lot of ladies have that issue. But I have found that massage therapists and dental hygienists all seem to have super human hand strength. Most likely from their chosen professions.

The Walther CCP M2 in 380 or 9mm, the S&W EZ380 & EZ9, S&W Equalizer 9mm and the Ruger Security-380 were all made to overcome weaker hands. You could also add a slide racker to give her something to grab on to.

To add insult to injury, the lady and her sister are now both feeling like ***. I guess the lady threw up last night before bed and her sister can't be more than 10' from a porcelain throne. They did not eat the same meal so they are convinced they disturbed some long dormant intestinal demon at their father's place. But "there is too much to do to be sick!" so they are drinking pharmaceutical potions and drinking flavored electrolytes in an attempt to stay on their feet and keep the process moving forward. Have to say I feel bad for them, but am also kind of glad I didn't go now.

It sounds like the father’s townhouse is well on its way to being clean / empty and has been a very active place today. With the help of some local businesses and their employees the trash made it into the big dumpster, the papers made it into the mobile document shredder, the furniture, household items, clothing and other items went to the Salvation Army, and the cleaning crew has been actively scrubbing as rooms are emptied out. They are about to start cleaning the carpets. The lady also ended up hiring a local handyman and his crew, who do a lot of work for the realtor, to do some minor repairs and paint a few rooms this weekend before they list the place on Monday. The realtor came up with a listing price, but after some discussion is going to list it $20K lower to hopefully expedite the sale.

The lady’s sister apparently has everything squared away with the father’s two vehicles which were both purchased by a “car broker”, the same car broker who sold her dad the vehicles in the first place. She also covered things like canceling landline phone, internet service, cable television, etc. The lady got her father’s debts paid off, the personal assistant’s spending account has been created, set up auto pay for his few remaining bills, and more. The lady is thorough, and I highly doubt she missed anything. She did say his finances were a mess and he had to have been drunk all the time to let them get this screwed up. He was earning far less from his investments than he should have been.

She tells me she is coming home tomorrow with a trunk full of stuff and a backseat packed with bankers boxes.

Bet she's glad to have that much done and to be back home

She will be. She just locked up the townhouse and is heading to see her father before going to the hotel. She said she is skipping dinner tonight, opting for just slightly watered down Powerade instead. She plans to be in bed by 8pm and on her way at the crack of dawn. Her sister rented a car and left already, between property from their dad's and their luggage they ran out of space and her sister wanted to get home asap. The lady did too but "didn't want to stop every 30 minutes" on the way home. I have never taken care of a sick person before so tomorrow will be interesting.

She is on her way home. I went to the store this morning and bought a bunch of stuff the internet told me to get: Powerade Zero, bottled water, bananas, yogurt, apple sauce, soda crackers, bread for toasting, etc. Then I got the bed made with new linens and set out a bucket & towel on her side just in case. I did the same next to the sofa, which now has 3 clean white flully blankets on it. When she arrives I am going to tell her to just go to bed or two her sofa spot and I will take care of the rest. I even have a luggage cart ready to go and help me make the 2-3 trips I expect it to take. Now I just have to sit here and wait impatiently for 3 1/2 to 4 hours.

Do you have or is there a local place where you can get some chicken soup?

You are so very sweet Marsh.♥️ She is so lucky to have such a caring man in her life. You two seem like such a perfect match. We need more of that in this world.

Don't forget to take care of yourself and the daughter too. You all don't want to be hit with the 'icks' too. Have some green tea in stock for all of you. Also, get some lemons for lots of drinking water for you all as well. Fluids should be pushed for all. Maybe take some elderberry for prevention too. Do whatever you normally do to stay healthy. Getting stuff done in preparation for a few lazy days ahead might not be a bad idea just in case you all get afflicted, although I certainly hope not.

I'm kinda dealing with the same thing. Hubby has the 'icks' and I feel fine. I'm getting my 'must do' chores done just in case...... But, so far, so good. And yes, Pearl......I'm taking L-lysine.👍

Bone broth is good as well. We have a place that we get it from, but we also make our own. I have beef bones in the fridge now to make some. We get the $4.99 roasted chickens from Costco, strip off the meat and make broth from the carcass. You cannot find chicken any better than that price, even whole chickens in the store. It may not be the lady's style, to make bone broth. We make it and freeze it if we are long on broth, which is actually rare for us.

Pho is another good thing when feeling yucky. You can actually get just the broth from pho places. Pho 95 on Federal is our go to place for pho.

She arrived home looking like she just spent 7 days in a Mexican jail. I helped her into the apartment, she hugged me, said "no kisses", used the bathroom and climbed into bed. I helped her drink some Powerade Zero, put one of the extra blankets on her as she was cold, and poof she was out. Hasn't moved an inch since. I went down to the parking garage and made 3 trips getting everything upstairs, marked the boxes with their contents and stacked them all in the storage closet which doubles as my "guns and apartment preps" room. I put the jars of misc. coins on the counter and sorted through them a bit, there is a lot of silver coins in there. Of course I also detail stripped the two handguns and cleaned them before locking them up in the safe. They have both been shot, but not very much. Then I took all her dirty cloths out of her suitcase intending to launder them, but some of the labels were in French or something so I said Ef that and put them in her hamper.

The girl is still at her friend's and has been since early Thursday, she won't be home until tomorrow. I guess they were friends from like elementary age on but ended up at different colleges. So they trade off staying with the other a couple times a year in an attempt to maintain a relationship.

Of course I washed my hands a few times throughout the sorting, organizing and cleaning process. I already take a host of vitamins, to include C, Zinc, and @Pearl's amino acid so I am not too worried. I also sprayed down all her stuff with this all natural disinfectant stuff she has that says you can even drink it, activate vinegar water or something like that. Claims it will kill pretty much everything include the dreaded C-19.

The lady is not a fan of soup. I know, I thought it was weird too. The only two soups she claims she will eat, but does not love, is chicken tortilla and chicken and wild rice. So I have a couple chicken thighs and a chicken breast, all bone in, cooking in the slow cooker. I will pull the chicken later then toss the bones back in with some celery, carrots and an onion to cook on low the rest of the night. Then tomorrow I will make her some chicken and wild rice soup. If she decides she can eat something tonight, she's going to have something from the BRAT list I picked up today. Although something tells me there is less than a 5% chance of me seeing her awake before tomorrow. This lady can sleep a LONG time when she's not sick.

She'll sleep good in her own bed!! Hopefully she'll feel a lot better tomorrow after a good night's sleep at home!! And just think, y'all have some new roll playing ideas for the near future...... Mexican jail themed!!😉

I prefer playing TSA screener, I can't speak Spanish very well but have no problems checking her for contraband or unauthorized fluids.
