Passenger Pigeons don't Deliver anymore...?!?

Back in the day, we each dressed up, grabbed a glass, and went trick-or-drinking. We knocked on the door of friends, took whatever was offered, had one drink, chatted for half an hour, and moved to the next house.

We leave the light off too because many, many I'm telling ya, come to this in-town neighborhood from miles around, the police close off the roads into it, and kids trick or treat til their eyes bleed. I'm getting off work early so I can make it home.
Someone who lives in this neighborhood told me 7 years ago they spent over $100 on candy and it was gone within a half hour.
Our dog would freak out if we participated.

As a young man I participated in that on occasion.. The trick is to start on foot at the far side of town and work your way home... Otherwise it could be a long hard trip... o_O:fun fun::trick/treat:

The first weekend of October, my whole front lawn was turned into a spooky cemetery, complete with skeletons, ghosts, and eerie lighting. We get between 30 and 60 kids each year unless the weather is really bad.

Candy bought this early will just get eaten by us. I'll wait 'til a couple days before Halloween to buy the stuff that will be passed out.

Both places across the street are decked out early. Do you play scary music? The one guy has a recording with a scary voice and spooky laughter. I think he got in trouble last year by the city. It was too loud! Last year it had a lot of screaming with it. 🙄

My wife is a retired teacher, so we (she) decorates for every occasion. She even changes a lot of decorations in the house to match the season.

So we participate every year depending on the weather. If it is nice we will sit on the driveway. If it is cold we will sit inside near the front door. We have a lot of kids in the neighborhood, and our fair share of drop-offs. We don't mind. It is only one night. She buys all the candy, and always has something special for the kids we know. I am just there for moral support. :trick/treat:

You'll be on such a sugar high by then you'll scare all the kids off and have that candy too!!😃

Funny......
Almost 40 years ago now, the first year we lived in our little house in town it had a detached garage that sat back from the house a little.. It also had a fiberglass, see through garage door.. I hung an old pair of coveralls on a hanger on the inside of that garage door with a cardboard pumpkin at the end of one arm and no head.. I shined a bright work light behind it... It made moms and kids scream a lung out when they noticed it.. :trick/treat:

We have in the past, but nothing like that (so far). Normally, we have a full-size coffin set up at the far end of the yard with treat bags in it - and a very nasty looking skeleton. The kids have to open the coffin and take a bag of loot. But the coffin is in the attic and I really don't feel like wrestling it down two flights of stairs.

DW would dress up & give out candy, but all the kids are grown up & play Rap loud & play video games.

I went door to door as a kid to collect candy, that turned into throwing eggs and vandalizing the school and teacher's houses, that turned into going out to see the ladies dressed like the hooker version of nurses, cops, etc. and hook up. Now I struggle to care about Halloween as the lady doesn't seem to care and has no plans to go out. I do not see very many children in this apartment complex so I doubt anyone will come to the door. I believe we are going to eat pizza and watch a horror film.

At the new house, you can get a parking spot at the fire department or church to park and pass out candy. Houses are too far apart unless you are in the village, and even then it's not many houses :)
