From our back deck. Those are houses on fire. About 2 to 3 miles away.

Sunny and warm, 70's again today. The storms than came through last night are expected... Get This!... to reverse direction and begin drifting back through bringing more rain.

Wasn't once enough?

When it comes back it'll have even more warm air from the gulf setting the stage for Saturday.

More tornado weather for all of Saturday into the night.

Then Sunday night it'll be 20 degrees by Monday am.

It may just be me, but I've been thinking for months about an apparent pattern. Anyone east of the high plains has experienced floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and rain like my dad hasn't ever seen...

Right now at 85 inches rain... I'm about 30 inches above my yearly average of 55inches. Last year was 74inches of rain, again, unheard of. In 20/21 I've literally gotten 3 years worth of rain.

Everyone living west of that line to the coast have experienced droughts and fire in unheard of ways.

The evacuation areas are starting to move in closer to us. Looking out from our back deck, the fires appear better directly to our west. But now there is a newer fire approaching from the south, but I'm hoping the winds will not shift more northwards from that.

I just made a quick run through the entire house, taking pictures. That was a real eye opener (I think we need to schedule a bit of house cleaning after the fires are out!) I took formal pictures years ago for insurance, but figured it couldn't hurt doing another round of quick pictures to jog our memory of what we own should insurance claims become necessary. I also recharged a ton of stuff - tablets, flashlights, you name it - so we would be good to go at a shelter. I have always been a stickler for scanning every important document into the computer. And backing up all our computers. I just grab my 4Tb backup drive (holds all our computers) on the way out the door. So we're good to go in that area. I need to re-setup off-site backups. I used to do that, directing my backups to my mom's place, but stopped when she passed away. I need to hook up with a friend and arrange an "I'll put my backup rig at your house, and you can put yours at mine."

But I don't think we'll burn. I am still optimistic. Winds usually die down at night.

Sending good vibes your way , Haertig. Fires are awful. Two of my friends lost their homes to fires but they weren't the big wildfires like these ones. Isolated incidents.

Mom's dog woke me up so I'm awake in the middle of the night. It's 73°. I woke up sweating.

Prayers headed your way 🙏🏼 Glad your safe. Hope your place stays safe

We are supposed to get freezing rain and much lower temps for the weekend. We cancelled plans with friends who have a pretty significant drive to get here. Chance of rain is 90% and with temps in the 20's it could be dangerous. We aren't going anywhere.

Stay home, stay safe!!

Stay home, stay safe!!

The fridge is full. The freezer is full. The bar is full. I can OD on some of the best college football all weekend. Why would I go anywhere? :dunno: My wife might not be too thrilled, but I will be in hog heaven.

Haertig - praying you are safe from the fire! We've had a couple of close calls in the last few years from wildfires coming down the mountains near us and know how nerve wracking that can be! I hope they get it out soon.

The weather forecast has called for us to get 6-10" of snow for the last few days, and last night they finally delivered! It's still snowing at a pretty good rate - I've learned that when I look outside and the tops of the mountains blend in with the skies that we have at least another 6+ inches coming...

The fires never reached us. A little close when you can watch houses burning from your back yard, but we were spared. We have a few friends who are right in the middle of the burn area and had to evacuate. They're all OK. Don't yet know about their properties though. These were bad fires. Fires are not rare in Colorado, but coming through the middle of larger towns, through housing subdivisions, is. I don't know if the fires are out yet - hard to believe that they would be - but the smoke is a lot less around here this morning.

Continued prayers for all effected, but sure good to hear you've been spared.

We have friends that had to do an emergency evacuation as flames hit their area. They got out barely, but couldn't gather all their pets to take with them. Hopefully their place, and their pets, will still be there when they are allowed to return.
Our friends just reported a total loss. Nothing but the concrete foundation left. And another one of my wife's coworkers also reported the same. The wife's hospital was evacuated, but wasn't touched by flames. Just too much smoke inside to be safe. They will start allowing patients again after all the smoke has cleared the building, which should be soon. We no longer smell smoke at our place, but the hospital is a little closer to the fires than we are.

It is snowing heavily here now. We already have several inches over the last few hours. It wasn't supposed to start until tonight, but hit us a little earlier than predicted.

It started for me around 3 this afternoon. I'm hoping it stays light enough for a run to the airport.

That looks very pretty, Teej (as you've already been told). Makes me miss living in Virginia.

Haertig, I'm glad the fires missed you. Feel awful for people who weren't so fortunate. I was thinking of you when I was watching the news about the fires earlier today.

I finished wrapping pipes on water well today. I did most of it 2 months ago. One section has several connections that I hoped husband would do. Nope. I did best I could. Front moving in tomorrow and channel 3 news says first freeze of Brazos valley. Not. We have already had everything freeze down. Husband will never do it ahead of time. Told me to find antifreeze for tractor and his truck this morning when I went to town for cubes and range meal. Nope none in town. We are no longer in weather risk. Most will be north near DFW and to to the east. Will probably have to leave water dripping on Saturday and Sunday night. Then warmup.

Safe travels to everyone who has to be out on the roads. Hoping those forum members in Colorado are out of harm's way. Haven't been out on NYE for probably 4 or 5 years. Safer to stay home.
@txcatlady I hope everything stays good for you. I'm up in dfw area. Not looking forward to COLD. There's a window I forgot about not sealing up properly. Darnit. It's rainy now. 66° for now.

The area is still closed - they can't go in - but the police just found their dog, and brought it to them where they are staying! :)
