Hey @joel you watching the weather channel? After a short dance in the Atlantic Ian is supposed to visit you! Lets hope it doesn't gain strength when it hit open ocean again.
OMG! Let's hope not!
We will hear nothing but nonstop yelling about how Charleston Sathcarolina is in peril from TWC for the next 2 days gaah.

I've been watching an idiot reporter in Sarasota for 30min. He has not made a single statement of fact... Every sentences has words like - could, maybe, probably, might and on and on and on.

He's cheering this storm, hyping it every way possible. Even when reporting good news, like the storm continues to weaken by every measurement... He speeds past it and then compares it to some storm that was actually worse.

Forgive me tweaking your post.:(
They all do that.
The more they hype the panic, the more they get paid.

They have much important information to give to us, but facts don't matter.
Makes my blood boil sometimes.

It's like they all become ZeroHedge overnight.gaah

Found a couple short vids on another platform... First is a shark in a street, Ft Myers, as Ian came ashore. The other was in Naples.

The real storm chasers, source unknown... I can't read the license plate. It almost looks like 2 words. South Carolina maybe?

That's a great pic of the real hero's. :)
You would be amazed how the electric co-ops work together.
I've seen them.
No company to cut red tape with.
A band of brothers.
I've seen them appear from many states, and from many locations in each state.
They work for nothing but an IOU, if we get in trouble, it is your turn to come help us, ok?

That is not much consolation, @Peanut
One video I saw showed the risen water at the pier. It looked like it was maybe five feet from the underside of the pier, where normally it would be more like 20 feet to the water. The fire department closest to the beach in Naples wasn't able to do much, water up 4 feet or higher on their street.

Our weather is tame compared to Floridas; but I'm really feeling the temperature drop. And it gets getting dark earlier each evening- we have lovely long summer nights here. So it's dark about 7pm now. Today is clear with a slight breeze- jumpers needed- and it's giving torrential rain tomorrow.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that my wife and daughter are in Florida.
The eye of the storm just passed them this morning. About 30 miles north of where they're staying.
Since most of the rain is north and west of the eye, they didn't get hit too hard and are doing well.
More rain and wind coming today but not catastrophic. Power has flickered but remains on.

Update as of last night: family is safe, trees took out SIL's outdoor bar area, her car and her best friend's car (who lives in a camper on their property). Whole back yard was flooded. My 19 year old niece was at friend's in same town and called us saying the roof was coming off and the floor was starting to flood. My coworker's elderly parents made it through but have no power or water currently.

Thankfully they are all safe!

@Chaosdawn it is a relief to hear news, ey? My niece is fine, no damage or flooding done to her place. Nephew must be ok, he’s out away from the city. My sister is ok but no power. Nobody is saying much more than that.
Daughter in-law has family and friends near Orlando. Some without power; strong winds and lots of rain for now.

Wow, that's quite a staged fleet of utility trucks... I guess those companies are expecting some serious storm damage. Here in the high desert, things are a bit more tame, we have sunny fall weather that isn't too hot and it feels good to be outside. I need to get out there and water, but I'm lagging on the computer, lol... sipping my herbal tea and thinking about what I need to do today. Gotta check the NOAA weather forecast later for my ride tomorrow, I'm looking forward to that instead of dealing with goatheads, lol. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy... ;)
