It is up to you.....but I plan to create a decade or two between your two milestones above.

As I listed above, many in my area have done just that.

Farms that have already been paid off can usually operate at somewhat reduced but still adequate profit, even when you have to contract some stuff out.

Bigger farms have the option to lease out or share farm on some or all the land beyond the boundary of the house surrounds.

Sounds like a good plan.......can you stretch that out (in combination with some other income streams)?
I already lease out the grazing on part of the property, but I'm still responsible for the fencing, water etc. Our property is completely paid off, no debts. We really don't need the income off the property, our pensions, investments and SS provide very nicely. My original intent was to keep this place in the family for future generations. But sometimes dreams just don't come true. If we could find the right young family that has the dream we may just give it to them.

I you like living there.....then stay as long as you can.

God helps those who help themselves, so it is said. Like the joke about the guy in an accident who refuses all help because God will take care of him. and when he dies he asks why God didn't help him. and God says, I sent you a Cop, a paramedic and a doctor. What more did you expect me to do?

That plays both ways if and when we reach such times: do you keep helping when people are only willing to take? Then you are not helping yourself, nor are you really helping others, just enabling them to continue their selfishness of taking. when you're played out they will just move to the next one with their hands out.

and the person who is asking for help needs to help themselves, even if its to pick up a rag and clean in thanks for the meal or shelter.

Its a delicate balance, and I for one am not willing to help those, no matter how desperate, if they are not willing to help in some way in return.

Just my opinoin and my POV

This Jase Medical is gaining in popularity. I'm kind of loving it.
Modern antibiotics can save your life right now...look up jase online and tell them you have had a checkup in the past year, don't have any sever health conditions and send the money...
I just got another kit coming for our motorhome that we might have parked in another location and so we need another kit for it. No problem, just give them the answers that check the boxes and your kit can be in the mail.
My wife is a RN and has a deep understanding and practice of natural healing but the antibiotics are still the go to when things need to be handled right now.
They also have kits for kids and teens.
Think about it. A nice dinner in a good restaurant with drinks for four people.....or a kit that could save several lives including your own or your own children's,......

I haven't ordered from them because so far I can just buy ivermectin, amox, and zpacks from our feed store. But they look like they have good product

some things amox won't fix so the doxycycline in the kit comes in handy...several other things in the kit should be useful as well since the kit is tailored for travelers in out of the way places.
We also stock the feed store supplies as well ... even got some silver enhanced ointment similar to Silvadene.
The jase kit comes with some pretty good written instructions on plastic coated cards identifying what drug for what affliction.
We use the available docs and pharmacy's right now but it is good to have a option..

My wife (the pharmacist) is not a big fan of Jase for several reasons.
Jase is "Legitimate," but
  • you're getting fleeced with the price they charge for generics
(that she knows they're getting for pennies,) and
  • the strengths they've chosen to supply are not ideal for the most common ailments they're intended for. (like 875 mg for Amoxicillin)
Hopefully they supply doses based on your weight?
  • the number count of each drug supplied is questionable.
In some cases, it may be overkill and in other cases, not enough to kill the bacteria and now you may have made bacteria immune by not having the sufficient supply to finish them off. What happens if more than one person "gets whatever it is?"
Do you just not treat them, or do you switch to another antibiotic because it's all you have left? Regardless, if you're keeping a med kit, have enough of each drug for several incidents so you don't have to shorten a treatment.

Doctors at least see MANY people with the same ailments every year, so they should be able to recognize the most common ailments and "have it down pat," which drug treats which ailment best, the doses per weight, the treatment duration, and possible drug interactions with the multitude of other drugs we may be taking. Most civilians do NOT have that discernment, but we have a kit full of drugs that might work if only we choose the right one?!
Unfortunately, there are some doctors that practice "polypharmacy." They prescribe multiple drugs because they don't bother to do the lab work needed to pinpoint the precise bacteria - if, in fact, it even is bacteria causing the ailment? If they prescribe a couple of antibiotics to "make sure they kill it," they may end up creating an environment where competing fungi and viruses can potentially thrive more easily due to reduced competition.
Then you really have a mess.
The best answer is to marry a pharmacist! (Or nurse, or doctor.)
Runner-up answer...have a good medical reference that includes proper use of common medicines.
AND as Amish Heart said, buy generics (animal drugs) at your feed store etc.
If you get the same doses as people use, you are getting the same stuff.
Just a LOT less expensive! You could also use multiple on-line pharmacies (if necessary) to request treatment for your carefully worded ailment. On-line pharmacies can also supply you with travel drugs commonly needed in certain countries. You could also ask your GP to supply you with these same travel drugs...it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Seriously though, prescriptions are there to prevent the unknowledgeable from hurting themselves...but also most certainly to feed the money monster (drug companies!)
EDIT: montanabill says "The jase kit comes with some pretty good written instructions on plastic coated cards identifying what drug for what affliction."
Good to know! Clear instructions probably make this a good (but pricey) option for many. Alternatives (like on-line stores) might be more work than they're worth!

Our youngest daughter is a pharmacist and my husband is a medical know it all for infection, especially pulmonary..because he has had problems all his life.
I can tell you tho that daughter has a spaz attack if anyone is talking about have the med for something. So it's hush hush around her.
It's pretty easy to look up dosage per your weight. I'm sure Jase is making lots of money, but that's what they do, they're a business. If you do store meds at home, I'd suggest writing what they are, what they do, and the dosage with it. Not hard. We lived in New Mexico for a very long time, and I do know lots of people who would drive to Mexico and just load up on what they needed. Because it's so cheap to do it that way. You can just buy stuff at the pharmacy. I remember when we lived in France in 1984, you could just go to the pharmacy and ask for what you wanted. And it was not expensive. I have insurance, and for my meds I use the goodrx card at Walmart. I rarely have meds prescribed. I can get a Zpack from the feed store for $35 if my ear is bothering me, or I can make a doc appt, go to that ($15 copay), get a prescription and go to Walmart, maybe pay $20 for the Zpack, and taken up 3 hrs of my day. I'll will say that my doctor is not amused when I tell him I've taken something else. He about blew a gasket when I had bad arthritis flare up in my hip...I had seen him before for it, he sent me to the rheumatologist for shots, did that. Two months later I'm in bad pain and swelling, so I was taking some of husband's predisolone (he has extra), and made a doc appt. to get some in my name. He was ticked. Wouldn't do it.
Mostly you need to make sure you take care of yourself and yours. Docs can be expensive, and they can be buttheads. Prescriptions are way overpriced and you have to beg the doc sometimes to get what you need. Instead the docs seem way too interested in prescribing things you maybe shouldn't be taking. I'm glad companies like Jase exist, if only so that you have a choice in the matter.

You are only good to most doctors when you are sick!!🙁

Many docs are reluctant to prescribe antibiotics, even when they are necessary. I get it for a virus, won't do any good, but if that has turned in to a secondary infection, then yes, you need one. Our daughter in Washington state was out to visit early summer for a week. She had a crappy cough, sinus issues, had been to the doc in WA twice, had been going on for four whole weeks! He gave her a cough syrup to help her sleep and a mucinex type drug which just made her thirsty (because that's all mucines does). I gave her a Zpack from the feed store. She started improving rapidly after a day and a half. She called her husband, and he said to go to the feed store and buy a bunch of bottles to bring home with her for when they needed it. She was so thrilled.

Am i a little pissed none of my family bothers to prep or look at news or info that shows the path we are on and ignore stuff i send them? yeah. i am. but will i take them in? yes i will. that is Christs Way.
Unless YOU prepped to provide for all of your family (and their families) you will simply all die together.

Apologies to Sourdough for continuing this medical topic on his "What bothers or frightens me the most about prepping" thread.
If/when I suggest maybe taking prednisone for aches and pains, my wife lectures me about "do you want to leave yourself open to a serious infection?!" (can cause Immunosuppression)
I guess it was OK when she gave it to our daughter when she got a serious burn at the beach or one time when my son woke up and couldn't hear, she didn't hesitate. But I guess that comes with medical knowledge, because both times it was exactly the right thing to do.
I'm apparently just dangerous with the little bit I do know?!

Next time someone has red streaks advancing up their leg from a seemingly simple bug bite (and things have fallen apart in the world or you are too remote to get to a doctor quickly)........then tell me how dangerous and expensive it is to have your own prescription grade drugs in your possession.

Then change the scenario to a child about to die.

You can always study and learn more!!

What is doxycycline PRIMARRLY best used for......???
I'm going to inject my two cents.... Doxycycline not only kills whatever bacteria is ailing you, it also stops the bacteria from making the certain proteins they need to survive! Amoxicillin only kills the bacteria. This is why L-LYSINE is considered an antibacteriam, it doesn't allow the bad proteins to enter your cells!!

this is not medical advice, just what is published on the jase site. These come in the basic kit and then they ask you if you want anything else.

all die? only if that is Gods Plan.

my life is not more valuable than theirs. they are still sleepwalking thru life unaware of the storm about to break on us all like most others. i pray the Lord open their eyes before its too late. for thrm to make it here and i ask Him for help to prepare some extra For them the best i can. that is Christs Way. and He does all sorts of neat little miracles all the time to make it work.

if i refuse to help oithers in need cause im pissed at them or fear sharing what i got then i have denied Christ. He has always always helped me thru my pitiful life thru every hardship, challenge, illness and heart break. i have no reason to doubt His friendship, love or help in the future.

weve got some real mind blowing hard times coming. but this life on earth is not about our surviving at any cost or the cost to others. its like a insane boot camp for the soul behind enemy lines filled with alot of crazy ad mean people. Christ helps us naviagate thru all the storms and we are to help others as a way of thanking Him.

we need to to sit down quiet sometime this week and ask His help. ask what do i need to see, what do i need to do to get ready and please help me do it. He can be your best friend, closer than a brother. were not gonna get thru this without His help.

Many people think prednisone and other steroids are benign, harmless and can be taken like candy. They are very wrong. Great drugs when used appropriately and only as long as required and safe. And under a doctors care and supervision. Pretty nasty and dangerous stuff when used otherwise. If you're trying to survive the post-apocalypse on your own without professional medical care, prednisone may be one of the worst things you could be using. Many people will refuse to believe this and instead blame big pharma and doctors for being greedy and controlling. Oh well, you make your choices, you live with your consequences.

I have been on this for (roughly) fifteen years. And I am still alive.

I have been on this for (roughly) fifteen years. And I am still alive.
In the past my wife worked at several small town clinics/hospitals and urgent cares, the smart docs hit any unknown bite or tick with some antibiotics right away.......once established it can be a long haul to irradicate some things.

Soooooo if the terrorists hit us with super fast acting anthrax or some other thing that is affected by doxy will you be one of the few left standing/crawling?

Why would he do that? I keep hearing stuff like this but nobody can explain it to my understanding.

the premise was if all my family come to my place we will run out of food and all die. i dont believe that would happen but in the end we all die of something sometime. our bodies were not made to exist forever--they wear out. our Free Will and others can affect how and when and why we die----but we all die. i am not afraid cause i know where im going--ive seen it. we are here to do a job basically and when God allows my death it means im done and hotdiggity i get a promotion and leave this world to join His.

also with a relationship with Christ and the holy Spirit living inside me there is a love friendship relationeship and the Spirit guides and protects us if we listen and make any changes necessary. if we dont bother to ask His guidance or ignore a warning cause its too hard to make changes then its not Gods fault.

death is not the enemy.
it is a doorway
sometimes it is a rescue
