Tuesday was an all day thing for me. I was up for work at 4 am & then hunny had an am MRI scheduled on his shoulder which I found out on lunch break he was scheduled for a 3 pm appointment to find out results which meant after getting off work at 2 needed to go pick him up. Anyhow, partial torn, but no surgery. Just need to limit his movement and how he picks up & works on things. His mom called while we were in the official CE to say she couldn't get her garage door to work so stopped there to from x and also the print shop cause they didn't get the design right when they sent email for conformation and in town anyway. On the way home, stopped by the shop so I could see my freshly painted tractor then home to finally start my canning. After cleaning the kitchen, was crawling n bed at about 10:30. I picked my first home grown crop in two years today! The Spinach I have growing in one of the planters has grown enough for a harvest and we had it in an omelette tonight. It's amazing what a few days of warmth and some rain will do.
I have an explosion of Beans in the greenhouse and they are almost ready to plant out.
 
If we don't get any rain tonight or tomorrow it should be dry enough to plant the orchard and berries on Sunday. Got the lumber cut out to build 6 more raised beds. Today got up to 60 degs, if the weather holds I might be able to start planting the veggies in a couple of weeks. Tomorrow I'll put up the trusses on the chicken coop and get it under roof. The wife put in her chicken order today. She's getting 25 egg layers to start.

Your wife is going to love having fresh yard eggs. . . maybe not all the dust in the house depending on where you are keeping them till they get big enough for the coop. Ours stayed in a playpen at first with the foam mattress taken out and a 1/2 in plywood in its place with a heat lamp. Kept in the spare bedroom. Dusty little things with all their scratching around.
 
I looked at my tomato plants and they have grown about 8 inches in the last week,most of the potatoes are growing,only about 6 mounds are still not showing,I am not happy with the onions only about 1/3 are doing anything,,,,,to early to tell with most everything else,,,,I guess it's not to bad for the first garden in a new spot

Every year you keep adding more and more organic matter to it and it will just get better and better. I bounced all over here before finally picking a permanent spot. I figure by the time I pass away I'll have the soil just about perfect!

Yeah. I hate buying eggs from the store, or anything thing else that we can raise. When we sold our last house and moved to the ranch the buyers asked if we'd leave the chickens behind. Since we were moving 2300 miles away it worked out good for both of us.
We're still on generator power until I get the solar power system up next month, so I'll brood the chicks at my parents place. I use a clean galvanized water trough with a couple of heat lamps as a brooder. It works out well and keeps the dust under control.

My spinache is about played out, so that frees up some room to try the green peppers again as none of them sprouted this year. Then when the potatoes are done I'll have a lot of space to reuse. Last year I got two rounds of potatoes, spring and fall. I used the springs batch to seed the 2nd planting. It didn't produce as well as the spring crop, but was still well worth planting and gave me potatoes to eat well into winter. Oh speaking of making your own seeds, I got seeds from two of the lettuces I grew! When they bolted and flowered, they make little puff balls, that are full of seeds. I'll replant some this fall and spring using these seeds. I've been trying to learn how to keep plants growing by harvesting their seeds. So far I've successfully reproduced okra, squash, cukes, tomatoes, kale, potatoes, corn, and now lettuce!
 
Got the apple and cherry trees planted today, along with the raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. Built some raised beds. One will be for strawberries, one for asparagus and three for tomatoes and peppers. Still have more brush and trees to clear in the garden area. Too much stuff going on to plant a big garden this year.
 
I just was out and looked at the garden after the rain,I have a few tomato's already there are going to lots of potatoes and the new onion sets planted last Sunday are busting through the ground no string beans showing yet I thought they would break through before the onions but it has been only 6 days
 
I hate using chemicals and with that said, I did have to do some spraying and dusting this week. I started getting a fungus growing on my cantaloupe & cucumbers! I sprayed last Tuesday and will again tomorrow. It is supposed to be every 7 days but starting tomorrow night we have a good chance of rain for the rest of the week. Last year was such a horrible year for rain and cooler weather so thinking that got in the ground and over wintered. I really wish I had milk to spare instead of using the fungicide but I don't. Anyway, I removed all the effected leaves and threw those to the goats making sure none were left on the ground. Needed to get that done before the rain starts and makes it worst. Hoping by spraying will keep it is under control. Crossing fingers. . .

What does a salmon berry taste like?
 
I like to take a couple egg shells crushed up with the epsome salt when planting too. You can add them after the fact just on the ground as well, but I think the plant absorbs it better when buried.
 
I hadn't heard of the eggshell. . but then again my dirt has been loaded with them from the compost. I will need to try that next year, if I remember ;).
