What would you do faced with 50% inflation?

Just got back from the hardware store that we buy our wood pellets from every year.
The owner told us this morning that pellets are going to go up starting next month and he said they could go as high as $400+ a ton
That is double in price.
He said the guy that trucks to him says with the price of fuel it won't be worth delivering the load.
Hubby just left to go buy 2 more skids/tons of them so we'll have them come Fall. That will give us a total enough to maybe last 5 years for our heat.

So if you know someone who uses wood pellets for heat, they may want to check with their supplier
Price has already gone up on the pellets. They're $325/ton now and with sales tax it comes to $344
We paid $218/ton last summer

A few weeks ago I went and grabbed an extra pallet. It had gone up $100 a pallet from a few months ago when I purchased the last pallet. Bet they are even higher now.

@elkhound

My cousin did missionary work in Russia, and she mentioned that the Russians were struggling with inflation with no wage increases and that was before the sanctions. She also said where she was in Ulan Ude if you wanted to go shopping for clothes or luxury items etc. you needed the vaccine card to get into the stores. Grocery stores didn't require the vax-card, but a lot of other stores did. Most Russians were pushing the limits with the social distancing and masks, though. She also said a lot of Russians heat with coal out where she was; that's how they heated their home, but the vlogger you posted (whom I've watched before and forgot his channel so thanks for posting) but I saw he heated with natural gas. So I found that interesting.

She's not sure if she'll be able to get back to Russia.

I was going through my journal and last year I was writing grocery prices so I could compare them as inflation hit. In one supermarket, the more expensive one, flour was $1.49 on sale and at Aldi it was $1.15. Now Aldi's everyday price is $1.49. (30% inflation in 1 year on flour at Aldi)

In the last month though I haven't seen my particular grocery items inflate yet. The things I buy are currently stable since January-ish? Hoping it stays that way for a few more months >.<

Peanut Butter Powder went up in price. The Great Value Brand form Wal-Mart went from $9.98 to $10.48. Not the hugest price hike, but it's gonna cost me a few dollars extra on the grand scheme because I wanted several of them. >.< And all those dollars add up.

Warning to the wise. Don't try to buy electrical wire unless you're ready for cardiac arrest! Just back from Southill again, went to get the wire I forgot last night. Didn't buy any after choking on the price. 100 feet of 6/2 was going to cost me a little over $700.00 Oh hell NO! Last time I bought some it cost me almost $100 for 100 feet and I thought that was highway robbery then. IIRC it was $6.84 per foot today plus cutting and tax. Apparently some places are now charging a surcharge for cutting a piece of wire off a spool now. Just unreal how high things have gotten....

About a hundred things I should be doing but I'm going to sit here and think for awhile. IMO this can not go on much longer before people start acting real stupid.

( The last 6/2 wire I bought was about 12 years ago.)

Copper

Like most commodities are up bug time. We got a 50% return on a Indian mining company after holding the stock for about 3 months.

That may sound good but if we had invested in nickel a few weeks ago... It went up about 400% in one day when someone did the math and determined there was enough nickel in the world to build all of the batteries used in electric cars.

i have a favorite coffee mug, stainless steel, large handle, has a lid, made Very well and i love it. i cant break it. last fall i got a back up for $9.99 cause i know me, i lose things. went to amazon to buy another one and in 6 months the price doubled, now $19.99

Yep copper. I was going to post it over in the shortages and mention electrical. I've been trying to source a 5' X 10' sheet of copper for a blacksmithing project. After many calls, one of the fellas told me about 4-6 weeks ago one of the main copper mills in the nation caught on fire. It started with an H but I wasn't familiar with it so don't remember the name. Lots of copper is on back order (of course) and not expected to see much for the next 2 months.

Also, my coffee went up a dollar a can. Now twice as much as it used to go on sale for.

And if you check back later today or tomorrow or next week it might be back down to $9.99
It can depend on which seller the listing switched to or the phase of the moon or who knows what. Pricing at Amazon is unpredictable.

Amazon has machines programmed to play you on repeat purchases.

On topic: We have 10% inflation now, and it will throw a wrench in my retirement machine .
When I set it up, I allowed for up to 4% inflation (which was more than twice what we had).
With the investments cranking out close to 8% in income, I could do just fine on the remaining 4%.
Run the numbers again, with 10% inflation and see just how good I'll do:mad:.
Thanks Joe!

Prices seem to have leveled here, I had enough left for a 12 of berry white claws.
But hey, fresh off the press from England from my spook bud. I redacted a few things but you'll get the idea!

Yeah it's nearly the same here the price of petrol has gone through the roof, our electricity and gas has gone up by £700 a year, food is getting crazy prices.

The West is F***ed!.

Yeah I agree with you that someone is messing with us.

They have just banned all protests here, it's gone through Parliament, our Government, on the pretext of noise pollution, I kid you not. The only protests allowed are the ones sanctioned by the police, but if there's noise pollution, they can arrest and fine the protesters.

It's really **** here in the UK!

I'VE stocked up on canned food and mineral water.

you are right about that and so is theiur ship[ping dates. wsometimes i get an order 2 days earlier or a week later. just never know. definite on price changes, i alwasy chck fo sellers of an item im looking for and go for the best. sadly, that was the best, price lol. but yeah, the do jack people around sometinmes. like put something in the cart to think aobut it and see if i can find a better deal somewhere else. then they6 lower the price anywhere from .01 to .50 cents and hope youll bite. if not they rise the price a couple days later. pisses me off when they do that so i delete it from my cart and get it form ebay or walmart.
