After getting The Princess's car out of the snow I parked it on the front street so she will not have to deal with that issue when it is time for her to go to Kung Fu tonight. Took care of some admin issues learned that the heater core replacement is done and I can pick up the Jeep Liberty this evening.

So being stranded at home I started working on cloning seedless grapes.

Cleared room in the grow station for the clones.

Got my cuttings ready and then I discovered my lack of planning.

My dirt is frozen rock solid and is not thawing fast.

Note to self
Thaw your dirt a day ahead of time Ben!

The Princess will not be happy to find diet 5hawing 8n 5he mud room I am sure. Hopefully getting her car free and catching the mouse 5hat ate her chocolate will earn me some protection from her wrath. ;)

Ben
You better be careful, she'll use the Kung Fu on you!!😯

Started work at 6am and finished up at 9:30. The California work is done for the year! Headed to Phoenix with a quick pit stop in Yuma to eat at In 'n' Out, got checked into a hotel, and am doing laundry now. Gonna try to get a decent night's rest, got a 7am flight back to Iowa with a layover at O'Hare. Then I'll have to see if I get to see my daughter on my days off. Her mom tested positive for Covid 2 days ago. Daughter had a mild cough for about 5 days that just cleared up yesterday. She didn't think anything of it, but she may have gotten Covid with very mild symptoms. I'm not sure what the protocol is for someone with a known exposure who has such recent symptoms and a confirmed exposure. I know I can't afford to get it right now because I'm flying so much...

I picked up mail, picked up prescriptions & groceries, cut my thumb on a pudding cup, put away groceries, cooked for Mom, ate a salad, and took a nap.

Even though my respiratory symptoms aren't so bad, I feel weak and tired. My legs were getting weak on me when I was bringing stuff in. Got mom to blow kisses to the boo boo on my thumb. LOL.

Just got dome messaging with my daughter a little while ago. So, she's asymptomatic now for 24 hours, never had a fever, no aches, no fatigue, just a runny nose and dry cough. Never got tested. So she may or may not have had it, her 7 year old half sister had the same symptoms, and her mom just tested positive. So she's had an exposure. She is vaccinated, 2nd dose 7/23/21. I'm kind of at a loss as to whether it's wise to see her on my off days. Apparently she doesn't have to quarantine from school. If she did have it, she's not that contagious or not at all by now. If she didn't have it, she's likely infected. Being type 1 diabetic, Covid is a real threat to me. Although, apparently studies are showing that it affects type 2 more than type 1 unless glucose control in type 1 is very poor. Eh. Part of me thinks I should just say F it and live my life...

But you want to be there for your daughter in the long run.
If you are vaccinated and boosted, you should be fine. Any diabetic with a BMI >30 is high risk really, given the vascular remodeling that occurs with diabetes and high risk for clotting with COVID.
She likely has it with those symptoms, I would assume a positive test.
To be super safe, just wear a KN95 or N95 while around each other.

I'm vaccinated but not boosted yet. I'm just coming up on 6 months next week. Today is day 7 for her since symptoms started and day 2 since symptoms ended so under new guidelines she doesn't have to quarantine, just be masked up. The crux of the matter, to me, is whether or not she was positive before, or whether she is going to be positive in the next few days...

Oh - and my BMI is under 30. Not by much, but it's under...😉

I don't know where today went, but it started with chores, then went with husband to his diabetic doc appt. Grabbed some salads at Chicfila for lunch, and drove the 40 minutes to Sams Club. Haven't been there in months, and so glad we didn't need to buy beef. Olive oil went up, instead of the two packs, they were single, a smaller container, and $11. Ripoff. Got one anyway, though I have some in storage. I like my olive oil. Organic Strawberries (fresh) were $15. Ha Ha Ha. No one will buy them at that price and they will go rotten. How on earth we spent $600 I just don't know. One of my cousin's grown daughters came down with covid, felt bad on Sunday evening, and her brother (non amish) drove her to ER. They gave her an IV for pneumonia, sent her home. She was admitted today, hardly breathing. Poor thing. She's a really sweet lady, and I hope she gets better fast. No phone in her room, no visitors, and they don't do cell phones. Her husband is worried sick.

She's in the same boat as my daughter, day 7 of symptoms, and symptom free for 48 hours, my kiddo tested positive today.
She will likely remain positive for days. Even without your booster, you should still be ok from severe disease.
My daughter has been home this week and I haven't gotten anything. I had her wear a regular mask in the house, as my husband is higher risk (over 65 with hypertension), and we have all been ok. You might do that, and you should probably be just fine.

Oh no! Can one of the nurses give her the portable phone they carry to call her husband (I'm assuming he has a landline)? Or does he know someone that can set up a zoom call on a computer for him so he can see her? I know a lot of hospitals are doing this for the COVID patients since they can't have visitors. That is terrible.

Doubtful, they are strict Old Order. But I'm sure he can go to the phone shack and dial the nurse in the covid unit and at least ask about her. Husband and kids really miss her. My husband left a message with her dad, he's a widow and very upset. We visit him regularly, and husband drives him places sometimes. Hoping we can at least help him in some way. The bummer about covid, is the best you can do is to leave a meal at the door for the family, knock, and run.

That is what I had for lunch today. I usually get their Cobb salad, but today it was their Southwest Salad.

In my hometown, someone got busy and raised money for Ipads for the residents at the nursing home so that they could Facetime with their families since they shut down visitations. People were generous in supporting this.

Gotcha ok. I would hope the nurses in the covid unit would understand the culture in an Amish community and at least bring a portable phone in or schedule a time for him to call. It sure does not hurt to ask and advocate for him in this way. you may have to push a bit as there are so many travelling nurses now and the one taking care of her may not be from the area and understand the local culture.

YUM! I've only had it once, a few years ago in Tucson, but so good. I would have to drive a ways now and wait in a long line to get one. I'm not patient enough to do that, and especially after I heard that one of them had so many people with COVID!
In 'n' Out is a yearly tradition for me when I head out west for work. I used to buy a T shirt from them every year. The shirts have the state or city that the store is located in on them. I have Utah, California, Arizona, and Las Vegas. But I quit because the shirts just take up space in a dresser drawer.

The "4x4" is the best burger on earth, period. I hope someday they bring In 'n' Out to the Midwest. It's the only good thing that California is giving to the rest of the country right now...

Our unit has 4 iPads available for people to facetime with their loved ones. Poor substitute for in person, but at least its something.
My hospital system just announced no visiting policy again (except for kids, maternity patients and end of life) - as our admits are soaring.

Yep, we probably will. Our little town 15 miles out is almost all Amish, so I think the docs are used to anyone with the last name Yoder. But you're right, didn't think about the traveling nurses. At least the hospital is not full. If it wasn't the covid unit, the regular units are allowing 2 visitors in per patient. And ER is ok with one as long as you do the temp and hand sanitizer station.
Oh, and Weedy...got the Cobb salad today, my usual. With ranch and an unsweet iced tea. Husband got the chicken wrap. Gotta take off the holiday pounds

Denver metro area got two a couple years ago, and I believe there is one in Colorado Springs. I heard someone say that another one is being built in the metro area. But I have not gotten a burger from them since they have been in Colorado. I drove to the one in Aurora (not my favorite place) and they had a separate lot to wait in before you could get in the line to order and pick up. I haven't been back.

Usually it's not that bad. I was there around 11:30 am and I had my food in about 10 minutes today. The drive through gets really bad at suppertime though...

I just looked. Evidently the metro area has 3, and another one that says is closed, but maybe is the new one. The Springs (what the locals call Colorado Springs) have 2.

Salads are popular today. I had a ranch cobb salad. The meds I got for the bronchitis are not playing well with my stomach though. Mild nausea, lack of appetite, and the runs. bleh. Usually the side effects abate once my body adjusts though.

try taking some probiotics, should at least help with the GI symptoms.

I remember in the early 90s they were just in southern CA, we would always stop there when we drove down from Sacramento to visit my aunt and uncle who lived in Whittier.

@Spikedriver I stopped at - In n Out - all the time when I lived in Santa Clarita. I ate the usual service guys diet, a lot of fast food. A lot of asian and mexican but if I wanted a burger it was from those guys.

Sort of funny, used to see people with bumper stickers from there. The stickers looked like this.

In-n-Out
Burger

A few I saw someone had cut out 2 letters from the bumper stickers. The "B" and the "r" had been cut . Leaving the message...

In-n-Out
urge

First one I saw I almost hit the car I was laughing so hard...

They did have good burgers.

I didn't do much today. This whole week is a bust... Dad's knee had been bothering him for days. Finally stopped working sunday. I took him to town to see a doctor yesterday, took the whole afternoon.

Wore me out but I did mange to just drop them off and get a few groceries. Tomorrow it's back for an MRI... Really?

I know why he was referred, good insurance. He had one 2 years ago at age 86. His old worn out arthritic knee is now 88 years old. He opted out of a knee replacements 5 years ago. AND he doesn't drink nearly the amount of water he needs daily!!!! Maybe a little coffee, a soft drink, water or milk for dinner barely 20oz a day. He's a big guy, 220, should be drinking over 100oz a day.

Water would do wonders for many of his issues. His joints need moisture for starters. (and he should have bought stock in Dulcolax)

I'm a huge believer in hydration. I generally drink from five to seven liters of water a day, 160 to maybe 220 ounces. Yes I have to stop what I'm doing a lot so I can pee, but my heart is good and my mind is (mostly) good. I don't understand why so many people are chronically dehydrated. In the U.S. it's such an easy problem to fix for most of us...
