Boy ain't that the truth!

Some years back I had an employee that thought he was Mr. Tough Guy as he entered the world of tree care. I was 52 at the time and he was 24.

We had taken down a tree and were raking up the small twigs and debris after all the big stuff was chipped. We shovel it into 55gal trash cans and throw it in the truck. I had a can hoisted up on my shoulder and was walking towards the truck. This guy was dragging a can through the yard. As I caught up to him I grabbed the can he was dragging and threw it on my other shoulder, barely breaking my stride. He just looked at me like I was from another planet. He lasted about 2 months.

Yeah. It's not too hard to work circles around most 20 somethings.

They don't seem to have any pride and damn sure no grit! Around here the construction trades were mostly all under 30 these days its just a bunch of old gray beards.

I could too, up until my heart attacks, then 3 back surgeries.

Now it takes me all day to do what took an hour before.

Age has a tendency to creep up on us.

Jim
age, plus skydiving accident, numerous MVAs and more have slowed me down. I am nowhere near as fit as I used to be ... but then I wonder if I was ever as fit as I remember

Went to the last Liturgy of the year,
My wife gave the Bishop a painting set for a year end gift. He Chrismated my wife and son into the Church last year after I was baptised and she gets him a gift every year for giving her such a great gift of welcoming us into the parish.
The nicest man you would ever meet.
Now im sitting in the pub for an hour having a pint and a half... waiting to go to the restaurant for a total if 14 people booked for dinner....then fight the mob to go to the in-laws for a quick hi then home and bed before 12 and back up at 6am to go BACK to the restaurant for spot check inventory with our accountant...total of 20min it will take...then
Back to Church for New Years Liturgy,

Then maybe a day off....

Hello everyone and hope your day has been good :).

Today we had a lovely morning at church and ran into a few lovely people we hadn't seen for a while.

Got home and had a bit of a break and then folded up two loads of washing and then DH washed the dishes and cleaned the benches and I dried them and put them away. DH has watered the fruit trees in pots on the back deck.

Nothing much else has been done as we prefer our Sundays to be a day of rest mostly.

1st course of our 1st table just went out...gonna be a long long night....
Tomato consomme and prawn tortellini

I'd like to order that dessert, Justin. Bring it on over.
My nephew and his wife arrived yesterday to our farm and we had a great dinner with my mom here, then brought her home. We stayed up way too late drinking and catching up. So I'm the first one up for coffee and am making loads of it. It is one degree out now and at 8:30 a.m. , not getting much better today. Lots of work to do today. We have alot of family coming for supper tonight and a slideshow of a recent trip to Israel one of the cousins took. We have white walls AND electricity so it was decided to do it here. It's much too cold for horse and buggy so my husband and my nephew will both be pickup and dropoff drivers tonight so no one freezes. I am making a large amount of hamburger soup, scalloped potatoes, and chocolate cream pies. Also large amounts of hot spiced apple cider and coffee. Other food is being brought, (always) by some of the greatest cooks around this area. I have no idea how I'm going to seat everyone. Have a great New Year's Eve everyone!

Not been very well lately and, prayer warriors, I've been under attack.

Vomiting, nausea, flu-like symptoms of sweats and chills.
Yep, keeping up fluids and managing symptoms.

As you all know I'm not very mobile anymore so I was easing myself down the steps when half way down the stair rung broke and collapsed and I fell through the gab.
This stair was a solid plank of Australian hardwood 2 inches thick and yet broke under my fly weight of under 60 kgs.
Still can't eat much and I'm still losing weight.

@Tank-Girl so sorry to hear about your fall how horrible :( as are the sweats and chills. I had that 2 nights ago but woke up the next morning fine without a temp so there must be some virus going around.

Sending prayers to you for a speedy recovery and that the doctors can sort out the nausea too.

Friend hugs to get better soon.

Thank you all so very much for well wishes and prayers.
I'll heal and if anything attacks like these just make me dig down deeper into the Word.
I deeply appreciate them and Snappy I will also add you to my prayer list.

In these times we need to cover each other in prayer and blessings.

Oh my! I hope you start feeling better soon. Be careful on those stairs, broken bones are no fun.

Our Heavenly Father, We as a forum bring these two afflicted members to you in prayer asking that your healing powers be bestowed upon them. Ease their pain, their sickness, and heal their bodies. You are the Great Physician and we ask your continued blessings on them.
In your name we pray, Amen.

Hello everyone and hope you have had a wonderful day so far :) .

At midnight last night we saw in the new year with a piece of homemade chocolate fudge each and a glass of double sarsaparilla (neither of us drink alcohol) and saw the fireworks from the local park from our little cottage veranda which is on a high ridge. Poor Tabatha the cat slept all day because we stayed up till almost 12.45 am at night and only just started to come alive at about 6pm tonight.

In the wee small hours of this morning I ordered a years plus supply of medical vitamins, minerals and other things from our favourite online chemist as they were having a sale with another 10% off everything voucher thrown in making everything so cheap. We made a batch of pasta salad from spiral pasta in storage, some capsicum picked from our gardens in the freezer and a tin of corn and green beans which we will have shortly for dinner with cold shredded chicken from a previous roast we had. DH stain removed some clothing and put on a load of whites in the washing machine and hung it on the line and brought it back in once dry and emptied the recycling and rubbish from the kitchen bins into the wheelie bin outside and back inside and washed the kitchen bin out and put a liner in it.

Then out to the garden where we removed some more sand from one of our garden beds put it in the trailer and finished filling in our washed out driveway and footpath out the front of the cottage. Back to the back yard again where we loaded up concrete into our trailer from where we removed an older chicken coup surround impeding on the garden bed. We levelled out the garden beds and DH gave them a once over with the rototiller.

Got the drip irrigation systems watering the gardens as I type and as we are now both sweaty and icky we are looking forward to a nice shower after we empty the grey water from our showers in there.

that’s because most of them have been coddled and lied to. They have never been taught the value and joy of a job well done ... how could they when everyone gets a ribbon. Work to them is something to endure not a blessing from God to be enjoyed. I am 60 and have had a wide variety of work experience and some pretty miserable jobs but was always able to say tha5 I gave them everything I had and was able to feel good about it.
