Central South Dakota has been dealing with bad fog in the last week. One couple was in Minneapolis and trying to fly into Pierre (pronounced peer). They have small planes, maybe 19 or 20 seats at most. The flights out of Minneapolis were delayed for a few days. People said visibility was two car lengths.Little granddaughter's school delayed 2 hrs today because of fog. So I had two school runs to do this morning. Went into the bigger town for feed and Walmart stuff. Propane guy came and filled up our tank and visited for awhile.
What zone are you in? Is this the best time of year to be pruning? One of my pear trees has struggled and I have to remove a few branches every year or so.I spent another afternoon pruning fruit trees. Apple trees can be a challenge if I skip a year. There is definitely no central in an apple tree. There is a legacy pear tree that is 40' or more tall. Too tall to harvest the fruit. I girdled it about 7' above the ground. There was an explosion of growth below the girdle. I removed a lot of the water sprouts.
Sent of the taxes to the CPA then picked up a bag of soil since I am due to start onions and leeks in about 2 weeks.
Tomorrow more pruning is planned.

Zone 6. I usually prune in Dec but we had rain. I didn't notice the cut weeping so the sap isn't flowing yet. What zone are you in? Is this the best time of year to be pruning? One of my pear trees has struggled and I have to remove a few branches every year or so.
At one of the dog parks, some mentally ill person took a machete to 5 trees. He didn't completely girdle them, except for one. A few of us have been working on getting wound heal ointment and tree wrap to see if we can save them. We have two trees done. It is a process of meeting, discussing, deciding what we think will work best, and then finding it.Zone 6. I usually prune in Dec but we had rain. I am a novice but dealing with the wounds as if they are grafts may be worth considering. Plastic shopping bags cut into strips and wrap the would to keep water and bugs out. Grafting tape would be ideal. At one of the dog parks, some mentally ill person took a machete to 5 trees. He didn't completely girdle them, except for one. you poor thing, hope you feel better!!Slept in. Think I have an ear infection. Left ear keeps filling with fluid, there is a small sore lump inside the ear and a swollen lump behind my ear where the eustachian tube runs.
I cleaned up the living room a bit, took out bathroom trash, and cleaned my toilet.
I had an eye doctor tell me that eyes get stressed from whatever is going on in our lives and affects our ability to see. I wore glasses from the time I was in 8th grade until a few years ago. I went to renew my drivers license and had flipped my glasses up on my head. I tried the vision test and someone interrupted the man giving me the eye test. I told him I needed to do the test again because I didn't have my glasses on. He said I don't need glasses because I had passed the vision test.Yesterday the wife and I had appointments with the eye doctor. He said our eyes are perfect. He still can't figure out why my eyes are doing so well. About 10 years ago I was diagnosed with glocuma and had to wear glasses. A couple years after I retired my eyes went back to 20/20 and don't need glasses any more. While we were there I ordered another pair of Ray Ban sunglasses to replace the one the dog ate.
On the way home we stopped and looked at trailers. I'm thinking about buying a dump trailer. Also taked about getting a small custom built aluminum trailer for pulling behind my Jeep and the side by side. I'm thinking about 5×8 size.
We had a few inches of snow yesterday and today. Not enough to get excited about.
Well that is horse of a different color!Oh and got Jake enrolled in flight school today!
And we wonder why kids come out of school not being able to do math . How about Joe’s house needs two sections of rail. One section is 5-3/16’ and the other is 6-5/8’. If it costs $120 / ft., how much will Joe’s rail cost? Decimal equivalents are something we preach at work.I cut back half of my elderberries to about 18 high. I had to stop because I am tutor duty for the youngest granddaughter. The paper she produced was not what I expected. She is working on reducing fractions and converting to and from decimal. I expected to see 20 samples to practice on. Nope!
Seems the author wanted to teach English but was stuck writing math papers. I will try to duplicate one of the questions...

Bill and Joe were analyzing two other classes at Jefferson grade school in Clinton Missouri and found the following facts.
Mr Smith's class reported that 2/3 of the class were the youngest child.
Ms Jones class reported 3/5 had pets.
They also found that 6/12 of Mr Smith class wore sneakers and 0.2 of Ms Jones class wore sneakers. Bill said there more kids in Mr Smith's class because 6/12 is larger that 0. 2.
Q
Is Bill right or wrong? Explain your reasoning.

That is a lot of hay to dig through to find a golden of understanding fractions. Paid by the word no doubt.
More elderberry tomorrow and getting some apple scions collected.

There can only be one boss!@hashbrown do you need a really bad, inexperienced backhoe operator? The way the damn railroad is going lately, I might be looking for a job. I've never run a dozer or excavator, but I've run a hoe, a little...

When I was a kid, dad always had a hot air popper. I prefer it to oil popped corn now. I have an air popper too, and I have popcorn in the evening at least once a week.glad you're both back home tonight @Amish Heart
Glad daughter has someone to look after her.
Kitty is making bread so I guess she's feeling okay. Found a kibble that she likes better than the other stuff we'd been giving her for years. What'd the vets always say? If it has a buffalo on the package don't buy it. I think it had a bobcat on it. Same principle.
P u r ina One is what she eats now, as well as canned wet stuff. Vet said give her the smelliest cheapest canned stuff you can find. Not doing that, but it is cheaper than previous canned stuff. I picked her up and she is definitely gaining a little weight back, not picking on the dog as much, zipping around at times, and not crying so much. Meow meow meow.
Bought a hot air popcorn popper cuz I don't care for microwave popcorn, the modern stovetop does a lousy job of popping corn. Right now finishing off my little personal size of rocky road ice cream. I hardly ever eat ice cream so things must be serious. Maybe have popcorn in a bit. I'll get to decide whether to put Spike on it or salt.
I thought you were going to spritz a little Jack Daniels on it!!It is really really good! Comes in a small glass shaker bottle thing, can be found in your herbs and spices aisle, red lid.
