Before noon I watched it snow some more. This afternoon I watched it get cold. Did I say I hated winter? Well, I do.

Looks like we got close to two feet of snow! It is beautiful, and I love it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE winter!!! It's only going to be around 7 degrees (Fahrenheit) here tonight, but the fire in the fireplace is keeping me toasty warm. Good thing we have the fireplace, as we lost power several times New Year's eve and early morning New Years Day. I hope we get a lot more snow this winter. Heaven knows we need the moisture! Sorry, Hiwall, you can keep the warm weather and just leave the cold snowy stuff for me, OK?

:snowwindow:

Lots done today and I rolled up the rolls of ribbon and put them in a smaller box and packed away the ribbon and spare pins, needles, sewing machine feet and premade handmade items. Then I sorted all the threads into a box and half the box fell apart and came unglued as I picked it up  and rolls of thread rolled all over the floor and under the table (mutter mutter). Never mind I got a new more sturdier box and put them in there and they all fit and it didn't fall apart yay !. Swept the room and now it is all set up for me to sew again (Yay). I then put on a loaf of bread in the bread making machine, put on a load of washing and hung it on the line and just brought it back in. I used the grey water to water the canna & calla lilies and spider plants with and used fresh town water to water the fruit trees and herbs with.

While I did that DH finished putting books away in the bookshelf, repurposed a shelf we had and put it up for music cd's, wiped over all the bookshelves and shelves, set up all of the musical equipment with cords and swept the floor. DH then used the rest of the grey water to water the shrubs growing in the gardens around the house and finished another whole side of the house.

We are just about finished setting up inside the house and only have the rumpus room to organise tomorrow. So good to see the floor again right through the upstairs of the house :) .

I did more clearing out yesterday. Still have more to do. Tired of the "stuff". WTH was I thinking is what I've been saying to myself for months now.
It rained again last night. We've had over 66 inches of rain in the last year and its not stopping. Still raining every 2-3 days. Its playing havoc with my joints.
I've been sleeping almost 10 hours every night now for about a month. Must be in my "hibernation" mode lol
I've lost 5lbs over the holidays lol Have no idea how that happened.
Hubby keeps raving about the shrimp I made for New Years supper. lol He can be silly sometimes
Need to go to walmart today. I need a heating pad ( shoulder joints are hurting big time for some reason). Also need to get deodorant and I want to check on the sneakers see what they have. I use them around the house. I wear boots outside since in the warmer months we have copperheads and eastern rattlers
I downloaded this years gardening calendar. Have to print it out. Won't be long before I can start seeds!

I like you but you are one crazy lady! It is 2 below here as I type this.
@hiwall all you have to do is hop on a plane to Australia and you will be in beautiful warm summer
As tempting as that is, I will stay here and wallow in my misery. :)

I'm with you, Hiwall. Don't like the cold. But I do like the woodburning stove when it's cold. We stayed up way too late last night with dinner guests at our place. Slept in this morning. Not sure what our young neighbors would think of all us old folks, but we had a lot of laughs, especially with my mom here, so we all had a good time. Today is a going out day, our last day here. So out to breakfast, out to the dump, pick up mom, and we'll be going shopping in our little town here of about 4 shops. She especially likes the Mennonite run thrift store. We'll see what goodies we find today. And the discount grocery, hardware store, and the new Christian book store. Hope to stop at the bulk food store in the neighboring town before picking her up. Need to clean upstairs, too, as our neighbor will be needing our farmhouse a few days when all his sisters and family come in to visit tomorrow night for the weekend.

We have just been informed by the very large extended family that we are hosting the Thanksgiving and Christmas 2019 at our home. We are talking upwards of 250 people. I think I'm going to kidnap my sisters and get them to help with the decorating. I know for a fact they are going to help with food. Believe it or not I am looking forward to it . This will be the first time we have had this big of a get togather here at the farm.:merrychristmassanta::presents::swingstocking::woo hoo::woo hoo::woo hoo:

BOTH events? Wow, that is a big event. Good luck on getting it done to your satisfaction and that of your family.

Rearranging the living room.
Taking the Christmas decorations down, putting them away.
Slightly angry with youngest son, he's not coming to do Christmas this year.
Maybe next.
Works for me, will give him gifts from this year next year.
Everything goes into closet already wrapped up for the following year.
This way I can rearrange my living room.
Give myself a little bit of breathing room.
Will inch the Grand daughter's Kitchen into the sewing room on one wall so I can get into the pie safe.
To put away Christmas decorations.
Got the dish water ran to wash up that dab of dishes-done
Working on cleaning off the counter tops completely.
Extremely dislike cluttered look all the time.
Got 3 more totes to go thru then the sewing room closet will be completely empty.
Well except for the Christmas gifts.
Empting the magazine rack, going to put Estelle's books in there, set it and the little rocking chair in front of window in living room.
Strawberry and Estelle have many of a conversations standing at that window looking out at the world.
Off to get started on my day.

21 degrees yesterday morning, enough of that, I'll take some snow, at least in the surrounding mountains. Had a very good report from my cardiologist yesterday, he had a nice smile on his face, I'd guess he probably doesn't always get good results for some of his other patients. I'm certainly thankful to God for getting better from the CHF (conjunctive heart failure) that I had early last year, that really shot down getting anything done, pretty much for the whole year. Maybe I can get the solar array set up as soon as the ground thaws out.

Just listened to a coworker vent. The majority of our workforce are willing to do whatever needs to be done. Unfortunately we have a "manager" that does zero planning and provides zero support. Our workforce is tired of covering for, taking the blame for the inefficiency and the "manager's" tantrums.

Daughter and I are going through totes of Christmas as we pack it up. All ornaments for each tree is in one by itself and labeled. Also dishes in 3 totes ,etc. This way it will be much easier to put the totes in the room they go in. We are planning now for the family.,so we plan on the main part of Christmas decorating the day after Thanksgiving. At least I won't be spending any money and won't have to deal with black friday.

I had a busy day, exhausted now. I went to the big town. I asked about a bill that showed up from a GI specialist. It’s been over a year since I saw someone there. Why a bill now? It’s been 14 months! They had no answer, said to call the number on the bill.

I had to return a front door knob to the big box store. I put it on my door Monday. All went well until I tested the key from the outside. It unlocked the door but the key would not slide back out! I tried for an hour to get that key out, no luck! I finally had to disassemble the door knob and put the old one back on.

It was a Schladge, surprising, always had good luck with their products. In fact, I decided to buy another Schladge today. I switched from a round knob to a lever assembly. It seems my hands are always full when I try to unlock and get in the door. Maybe a lever will make that easier. I’ll install it tomorrow maybe.

Of course there were a few more stops for odds and ends. :)

Last day at the farm, and hate to pack up and go home tomorrow. Spent the day with mom, took her shopping to the local small stores. Found some great deals at the discount grocer on more canned stuff for the farm stockpile. Found a 40lb bag of red winter wheat for our son who couldn't find any in New Mexico. Found some tablecloths, plates, and a skirt at the thrift shop. Uncle Melvin took a fall in his bathroom and bashed up his head and split his leg bone. Went to visit him. Feel so bad for him, he's a mess.

Yeah our new GM is like that too. I work alone 3rd shift, I get the sense it's not that he dosnt like me it's more like he dosnt give a crap about me one way or the other. Ananimity can be a good thing sometimes. Stay quiet and work hard for the next 100 months then semi retire at 45 on our homestead. I guess I just got to stay clear of him lol.

Sitting at the DMV for the 2nd time today. I didn't have my marriage certificate. WHY I need that to renew my license I don't know. I already have a NM license, they've already seen all the paperwork..... Oh, my insurance card qualifies as proof of residence but my concealed carry permit doesn't????? Its a state issued license that required a background check to get......

Met my youngest daughter, her hubby and their 7 kiddos up at nursing home to visit Dad. Mom came with me, so Dad had 11 visitors. Youngest is 18 months. Fortunately the kids were not turned off by his frail condition and my daughter loved up with him good. Lots of hugs.
Then they went their way and I took Mom to visit her sister that is about 4 years younger. Now home and online.

I've used my concealed carry and driver's license somewhere I needed 2 ids. No problem at all. I figured that shows my background has been checked, so they don't have to worry as much.

Had granddaughter this morning unexpectly.
Started to clean under kitchen sink cabinet about half way done.
Went to parents house so they could feed her.
Which they did gladly:
Bread plate of spaghetti, meatballs, half a pear, half of homemade rice crispy treats bar.
Son and Estelle brought me home,he took her to her mother's.
Brought my car back.
Ran to Wal*Mart for dog food, lightbulbs.
Ran by friends house to pick up books.
Dropped off stuff there.
Swung back by parents house, dropped off stuff there.
Came home, sitting in recliner.
Finished for the night.

I was at our DMV twice today. First time, they said an hour and a half wait and the 2nd time, I got a number, sat down and their computer system went down statewide. Only for about 20 minutes and I waited. Just wanted the correct address on my DL. Stopped at Walmart and picked up dh's mini mouse for his tablet (it helps with his hand tremors). Home the rest of the day and most of tomorrow, I hope!

I have had cookies from the following recipe. I wonder how similar this recipe is to your? They look like yours when they are done, minus the icing. The grandmother who made these (not my grannie) always made the icing pink, and now everyone in her family does as well, including her grandson.

Pink Icing Cookies
(Grandma's recipe)

1 cup shortening or margarine or butter flavored shortening (butter)
1 ½ cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt (optional)
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 cups flour
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
¼ teaspoon lemon extract
1) Mix buttermilk and baking soda in glass measuring cup (at least 3 cup size as mixture foams and grows)- set aside
2) Cream shortening and sugar, and then add egg, vanilla, lemon, mix until smooth and creamy
3) Sift dry ingredients together (flour, salt, baking powder)
4) Mix dry ingredients into creamed mixture, alternating with milk mixture
5) Chill covered over night
6) Drop by a teaspoon onto a cookie sheet. Gluten free tend to be better if they are a little larger. Bake large sized cookies at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes; grease and flour pan; jelly roll pan or similar thick cookie sheet works best

Icing:

½ cup of margarine or butter softened
3 ounces cream cheese softened (usually needs more so get 6 oz package)
4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Red food coloring

1) Beat all ingredients together until smooth- may need a couple of tablespoons of milk to make right consistency for frosting but wait until after tasting to add;
2) Tasting by local experts to decide if need more cream cheese or vanilla; beat in more cream cheese and/or vanilla until tastes right; add milk if needed
3) Add a few drops of red food coloring and beat- may add more drops until desired color
4) Frost cookies generously

Mine is a little different.

2 Cups Sugar 1 Cup Butter Crisco
3 Eggs 1 Cup Buttermilk
1 Tsp. Baking Soda 2 Tsp. Vanilla
4 - 4 1/2 Cups Flour

Mix sugar & Crisco.
Add vanilla
Beat 3 eggs & the baking soda with buttermilk.
Add flour alternately with milk mixture.

Bake at 350 for 9 - 10 mins
