The kid had another rough night. On one of my trips to her room to check on her I noticed the power light on one of the freezers was off. After I checked the kid I checked the freezer. It was plugged in and on but quiet and no light. I opened it and everything was still rock hard. I plugged in a fan to check the outlet and its working. I said a few choice words and went back to bed. When I checked the kid again there were still no compressor sounds but I didn't want to open it back up. When we got up this morning I checked the outside temps and realized I could put the outside sensor in the freezer to see how cold it actually was. Set it on a towel on top of the food and after an hr it was at -5°. Whew!! I guess the light just quit. I'm going to leave it in there for a few days to be sure. I don't want to loose a freezer full of beef!! I also just ordered a pair of freezer alarms so I have some warning if it does quit!

A bad 36hrs… Dad got sick last night. He’d been fighting a UTI for weeks. The stress of the flood, trying to help me build a ramp, the surgery and staying with mom all night Friday… he was completely run down. I fixed him a good supper Saturday night. About 8pm he called me, said he was sick. I went over, he was shaking, felt clammy. He got badly confused, thinking he had a fever with the thermometer was telling him it was normal.

He went to bed. I checked an hour later he was sitting in his kitchen freezing again. He did have a fever this time, low grade, about 100. He still has the fever.

He ate a good breakfast this morning, lots if bacon/eggs butter and toast. I couldn’t get him to eat any fruit though. He’s dozed in his recliner most of the day. Every time I checked he was sleeping but the last time. He was up laughing at an old burt Reynolds movie.

I’m going to make a big skillet of beef tips with gravy for supper, rice is done. Then he’ll have plenty to eat whenever he feels like eating, just warm it up. I still have half a loaf of Italian bread, lots of butter, plenty of fruit. I have squash and pickled beets in the fridge also.

My niece is staying at the hospital with mom tonight and will see to the transfer to the rehab facility tomorrow. Dad doesn’t need to go anywhere near her with a fever. I’ll take him to see his doctor tomorrow…

Now that we have two elderly people down for the count everyone’s schedule is up in the air. All I can do is worry about the one on my hands and trust others to step up with the other one.

I'm already tired an this is just day 2 of what could drag on for weeks... I hope we get at least one back on their feet soon. :)

@Peanut , hope your dad gets better soon.

It don't take much to get us older folks down and sick .

I really gotta be careful around folks also.
If I should come down with something now, my doctor will not do the surgery.

Tell your dad to just rest, eat, fluids, and hang in there .

We are rootin for him.

We had our surrogate and family over to meet some of our family. Good time and everyone loved each other. My wife and I went ahead and found out the gender. We were waiting for a while until we were sure the pregnancy was viable. We aren't telling anyone because my wife and my sister are cooking up something called a gender reveal party. Apparently you cant just call people and tell them you are having a boy or a girl. I don't mind because I'm sure there is some gender neutral libtard out there that would be highly offended by a gender reveal party for some dumb libtard reason. Anyway, y'all don't know the folks I'm not telling so I guess it's safe. It's a boy :).

@Spikedriver Are you in the same motel room for a couple days? I would be throwing some of that hamburger you have, a chopped spud etc. in a crockpot set on low so at least evening meal could be good. Eating out does get old. Six days off will be nice.
Normally, but not always, I'll stay in the same hotel for the whole 8 day work cycle. I do occasionally make food but a lot of hotels don't like you to cook in their rooms. I've gotten chewed out by management for it. If I'm staying at an air bnb, then it's game on! Chili over scrambled eggs is a favorite road dish...

Thanks everyone for your thoughts... dad's fever broke late this afternoon... he had a good supper... so things are looking up.

Congrats CBLouis!

That's wonderful to hear Peanut. Get some rest so you don't get it.

Started off the day with doing a mini clean of the RSL club and then going back for the final clean and tidy of the RSL and the Armistice Day ceremony. It was lovely and all the locals had a good time and socialised over tea and coffee. Wreaths were laid by DH for the RSL , police, fire brigade, the post office, the historical society and the CWA and all the school children laid a poppy down each. Had a bit of an incident as one little boy wanted to take about 100 poppies in a bunch but the teacher sorted it and the children were all really well behaved.

We organised with a friend to pick up some firewood and cut some tomorrow as the guy she had doing the job left her high and dry with trees strewn and sawn branches everywhere and more trees to cut down. Her husband is in an aged care facility with dementia and she really can't afford to be paying the other guy to do it anyway, so we told her we would finish the job and payment for us would be just to take the firewood which helps her and us. Hate when we see older people being taken advantage of like that but fortunately she only paid the guy one payment out of 3 as I told her not to pay him anymore unless he finished the job completely.

Back home where we had some lunch and then DH poisoned a small shrub that sprung up right beside the house and a mulberry tree that was sprouting on another side of the house in a garden bed. Then we headed out to the back boundary and picked up the rest of the ironbark that DH cut up and loaded it in the lean-to shed.

Tonight's dinner was the next third of our tuna and vegetable back and dessert was tinned pears with whipped cream.

It's a boy

Congratulations! My wife demanded that the gender reveal happen when the Doc held the baby up and he/she took her first breaths of fresh air. The only one that shocked me was #7. After girl, boy, girl, girl, girl, girl, I was due to hear boy again! And I am not saying boys are easier to raise up, but... ;)

Now that's scary. I added a freezer alarm after losing $500+ in meat once. It was a very hard lesson.

Good morning.

Congrats @CrackbottomLouis ..boy that's great news.

@Peanut , that's good news on your dad. Take care !

Today,
Going to drop off a Christmas present to a dear friend of my wife....won't see her before Christmas.

Going to stop by an visit my best friend Doc. Won't see him till after Christmas , surgery and recovery.

Going to lunch somewhere , sometime.

Going to Lowe's to buy a new LED , over the sink light, to replace before surgery.

Gotta get all little chores done before Wednesday this week , that's when I stop meds that keep me going.

I'll be non functional for a week before surgery.

Oh, but , I can't wait till a month from now.....SUPERMAN.:woo hoo:

Its bouncing between -4 and -7 so I think were good. The replacement lights have been discontinued for this model so I can't replace it.
With 5 canners and the 500 jars I bought this summer I could have canned every thing that's in there but I'm really, really thankful that I didn't HAVE to.

I made a run to sam's club. we're set for the winter now on some things. all thats left is the weekly dairy and such
We're supposed to be getting rain and snow showers with maybe some snow squaws thrown in just for the heck of it starting late tonight and going all day tomorrow
Still sick. Its day 10 and still don't have my voice back. its very frustrating. taking mucinex to break up the chest congestion and a decongestant to help with the stuffy runny nose. At least the very painful sinus pressure is gone. man that was awful
Have some things to put away in the pantry and such and then I'm just going to chill until I have to make supper and all

@Peanut you're a good kid taking care of your parents like that. I had to drive 45 mins one way to do for my mom all the time while a brother was 4 blocks away.o_O He always was a "you know what" but he was sure there for his cut of the estate. oh well water under the bridge.
