You got that homestead exemption? Or maybe you don’t have enough acreage? Could not believe how high the property taxes went on our first property here. It was $7000.
The dang county LOWERED my homestead exemption.....they are not allowed to do that! According to the Governor's office there are several counties that did that. The Governor's office is "working on that issue"!!🙄

Here's something to consider which I did a long time ago. Nobody owns their property they just lease the property from the government/state. You never sell your property because you never owned the property what you are selling is the lease.

Everything I learned about life I learned playing king of the mountain.

I bring this up because other posters brought up having to pay their blood money (property taxes). This is what the cold does it gets the wheels turning in the head.

Extracted the big beam and mocked up what it would look like as a mantle.

I am liking it.

Filled up the truck with gas, went to the post office, the hardware for butane for something husband needed it for, and to the amish grocery. They had a lot of good deals today, came home with organic dried stuff they got in...moringa, cacao powder, hemp seeds, and some teas. Also had the Bragg organic salad dressing for a buck, instant refried beans 50 cents a pack, and tri colored quinoa. Oh and good pasta for a buck a pound.

busy day, I am tired. Water problem got figured out, it was a broken valve ( from the freeze) and water leaking under a building ( not our house) . Got woke up by son banging around the kitchen at 6 am getting ready for the new job and 2 neighbors texting me that the water is out. So far so good, he just got back . Now I now why they are paying him more than I expected, 50 hour a week job....but he says he doesn't mind. We'll see how it goes.

Cleaned the barn finally, after it stopped freezing it started stinking.
Cooked 2 meals , one for tomorrow, and baked bread. Took Otto for a hike, still snow on the mountain but now starting to see spots where the snow is gone

Tomorrow we plan on dropping off eggs , picking up newspapers at the library , shopping and going swimming.

Well I got my broken tooth extracted and the implant installed. It has internal threads, (being a former mechanic, I love threaded inserts! 😍)
If something has a problem, you just unscrew it and screw a new one on.
They put a blindfold on you so you don't have to watch (I wish all dentists did that:() but I could hear him screwing the plug in that protects the threads until it heals and they can screw the post on it that will have the permanent cap glued on.
I got my post screwed in today, and a temporary cap glued on it, installed today.
It was way more complicated than I thought it would be, but I am good thru April 22nd.
...And I no longer look like Bubba-Jay! 😁

Cold will go down -15f and its very windy
At least no big precipitation
And tomorrow I have to go for mainly pets grocery

Fire going and .... I dont stop yawning 🥱

I did make a homemade vegetable soup
For dinner and
Had a big bowl of soup with crackers
Then a banana waffle with sour cream

Very quiet in the house I just hear the wind
Did care for my fur babies almost all day 🤗

I feel so tired ...like exhausted
And I dont know why 🤔

Anyway ...I was thinking of Militaries today
And all what they did and do for the Nation 🤗

Salute to all the brave soldiers 🌹

Sleep well all 💫

Got home from work—switched my schedule so I could take dad to see the surgeon for a follow up. The doctor is very pleased. Said dad is healing faster and better than he expected a nearly 90 year old to do. The cancer was much larger than the PET scan showed but he’s confident that was all removed. He said radiation should finish it off and prevent recurrence. Does think dad will be getting chemo because of his age. Also said dad is the master of his food. As soon as he’s eating enough to maintain calories and nutrition, tube comes out. Dad’s been crushing the thick soups but I need to find a protein he’ll like puréed.

Beef Pate "Great for using leftover hamburgers from a cookout! For an extra kick add hot sauce or cayenne or black pepper."

1 1⁄2 cups cooked lean ground beef (cubed)
8 ounces fat free cream cheese
1 1⁄2 tablespoons mustard
1 1⁄2 tablespoons Miracle Whip MAYO!
1⁄3 cup lowfat mozzarella cheese
1⁄2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Put all ingredients in a food processor.
Pulse until creamy.
Spread on your favorite crackers and ENJOY!

When I had to get dentures I was known to toss a ribeye steak in a food processor... Tasted just like ribeye to me!!! 🤣 Cut the crust off texas toast, creamed potatoes with sour cream and butter... Steak dinner without the extra chewing.

Congrats on the house! I always called it "dead people green". It seemed in my years as an EMT that every time I had to respond to a call of an elderly person down, the inside of the house would be that 1930s/40s mint green. Then when I moved into my farmhouse, most of the woodwork, including the beautiful mantel, was painted that color. Took years to get rid of it all.
Crazy day today, had to go out for fieldwork. Warmer, but the wind is roaring and relentless, blowing the snow across the roads and making a lot of ice. Came on to a horrible accident, semi vs car, just after it happened. People had stopped to help and I could see EMS lights in my mirror, so I kept going and got out of the way, saying prayers for those involved.
Walking the wellfield was miserable in the wind, face got so cold it was hard to talk. But got it all done and had time after to stop at Daughter's house and help with a few things.
The drive home was not fun. So very very thankful I don't have to commute every day!
So far the greenhouses are weathering the winter, but this wind makes me nervous. I could hear the plastic slapping when I took the dog out. I'll have to go check for damage once the sun comes up tomorrow.

We had the strangest milk house leak ever this evening. That milkhouse building is over 100 yrs old, and in one room there is a big steel pipe coming up from the floor about 2 feet with a faucet. Nothing has ever come out of the faucet that we've seen. Then a few days ago it started dripping. Early evening it started flooding, couldn't turn it off. I have 4 rabbit hutches in there and a 5 ft square turkey enclosure with a tom in it. What a mess! Neighbor Marlon came and got it plugged for the time being, said he'd think of something better tomorrow afternoon. I'll have a mess to pick up tomorrow morning for sure. Watching a Doug and Stacy Youtube and he said to look up who Elon's grandpa was. Wow.

@Peanut I’ll definitely try that. I’m want him off that tube as soon as possible and I was seeing protein as my speed bump. He needs to be independent again—he’s going crazy.

My butt is dragging after working the closing shift and then coming home to do all the new tasks I’ve gotten. We go back in two weeks to the doctor (find out about teeth then) and I’m planning on taking the whole day off.

Was thinking about that you must be exhausted, Tommyice. Remember to take care of yourself, too, so you dont get sick.
Not sure what all is going on today, but I do know I will be cleaning out the flood mess cages in the milkhouse. Need to get caught up today, husband's got all his pulmonary testing and his doc appts in the bigger town tomorrow.
Yesterday before the "great flood", I did spend some time in food storage, and got alot of stuff repackaged and dry goods "jarred" and sealed.

I think the cold weather messed up a lot of plumbing.
One of our neighbors showed us a great trick to keep the hydrant from flowing that even the youtube videos on how to replace them didn't show. There is a small square piece in the handle that will turn it off with a small wrench

so weather went from too cold and ice to wind warning....whatever
Going to town today regardless, I guess the goats are staying in ( the door won't stay open in this wind, it might break)
So today shopping, swimming if we have time, hardware store to buy new valves , oh and dropping off eggs
I should probably raise prices but these people are good customers so I will wait until the market starts with that and continue to sell them for $5
We are definitely getting more chickens this year again, currently have 21 and not a egg is going to waste

This was an ancient pipe with a regular faucet handle, that just spun around. Pretty weird. This cold weather did mess up alot of old plumbing. Hoping Marlon can get something working in there that's useable, that'd be nice to have water in that building, but not water that is spraying everywhere and not shutting off. Ha.
I had him help with a messed up hydrant last month. Neighbors are great.

My incubator is coming out in a few weeks, and also getting time to cull excess roosters. Lost count of how many chickens we actually have, going to guess 40 to 50, but some are roos. After seeing what hatcheries are charging...omg. I'll stick with the barnyard mixes. Hopefully no bird flu supposed nonsense stops our monthly fowl sales. Prices there are usually very good, but not the first few in the spring, they are high then.

Husband is on the online search for decent priced Cornish chicks, so he found $2.43 a bird for 200 birds (Whelp hatcheries), that's with shipping...not as good as last year, about 85 cents a chick more. That $15 new postal fee doesn't help. If Whelp comes down lower, we can do a community buy. I know neighbor Marlon says he wants some, but I don't think we each want 100. Alot of money for a frankenbird. Ha.
