I take tons of pics also, left the house without my phone this afternoon. I DO like to have the physical plant in my hand, though, to see the fine details, shapes, etc. I guess I'm tactile that way. I also like having the books in my hand too.. may not always have the internet *wink. It's a fun hobby and you never run out of plants!

Maters coming along!

Bobby and Socks? The black one looks like he's trying to cool off. Don't forget the ice paks! I only used them on the hottest afternoons when i had bunnies. I'd stick one in each cage at lunch, retrieve them at dark and put them back in the freezer over night. It seemed to help them during heat waves.

Yesss... I just got home with them, put them in a cage and took pics. It is HOT. Water bottles already in the freezer for tomorrow. I moved them to deep shade until the sun went behind the pine trees. I need to decide on a permanent place for them and get the fans rigged up also.

My bff and I showed rabbits years ago. I'm just trying to ease into a few for clean meat for the freezer. They will be ready to breed late fall.

Kinda funny. I "inherited" a HUGE bread book. One of their sourdough starter recipes used honey. I decided to make it. I honestly questioned the amounts of the ingredients with quart sized container they said to put it in, So I used 2 containers and split the starter. This starter also used a yeast (booster). Well, apparently yeast loves honey, 'cause an hour later that starter had busted through the coffee filter top and was spilling out all over the counter. The picture above was after the mess, what I managed to keep and it still filled up two jars again. I kinda wished I had just made bread and this was the first amazing rise.. oh boy.

I'll have to tweak that starter recipe.. lol
Us a half gallon mason jar.
That's what I use for sourdough starter.

Hurricane Beryl (Part 1)

Well, we knew Beryl was coming right for us. Initially he was going to be just west of us, which would put us on the dirty side where they were predicting 8-12 inches of rain in our area.

We lost power 9 am Monday morning.

He slid just east, so we were on the western eyewall, with really fun winds when you live in a forest. We know we were on the west wall because all our wind was coming from the north and radar was showing us almost in the eye.

We got 3.5 inches of rain (which is better than the 10 that my friend on the dirty side got.)

80 % of Montgomery county lost power and they have just now restored 60% of that.

Neighbors on each side of us have whole home generators.. not us...

Hurricane Beryl (Part 2)

So, we have one propane generator, and have been lazily looking for a second. Dumb prepping move to not have redundancy there, but ... anyway.

Generator plugged into freezer/ fridge and one fan during the day. We have a small window unit for the bedroom at night.

9pm Monday night we changed the bottle out on the generator and it refused to start. We let it rest for a bit, then it started, but wasn't producing power. So absolutely no power Monday night. No touching the fridge or freezer to preserve the cold until morning..

Mr TC fell apart like a 3 dollar bill at the thought of not having a/c for the night...(which shook my security in going through a real shtf scenerio with him... but anyhoo). It really wasn't that hot that night and I was comfortable in my recliner (far away from Mr Falling Apart)

Early Tuesday morning, Mr TC went to Bryan and purchased a generator we had been looking at just the week before. Honestly, I then felt like he was my knight in shining armor driving in on his big white 3500 with a new generator! lol

Meanwhile I had been researching what could cause a generator to run and not produce power.. Then Mr. TC tried some things and viola! we have two generators.
