Game of trolls: the hip digi-kids helping Putin's fight for online supremacy

"The inner workings of St Petersburg’s infamous “troll factory” have been exposed by Lyudmila Savchuk, a former employee, who was awarded symbolic damages of one rouble by a Russian court yesterday after suing her ex-boss for unfair dismissal.

Savchuk, a local activist who took a job at the factory for two months to expose the trolling operation, sued the company in charge, Internet Research, over back wages and the lack of employment documentation, forcing it out of the shadows and into court.

“I am very happy with this victory,” she said after the ruling. “I achieved my aim, which was to bring the internet trolls out of the shade. We have managed to prove that the trolls exist, which was the main goal.”

Report: All Out War As Russia Prepares To Deploy 50,000 Troops To Ukraine: “Cities Burning, Hundreds Dead”

(Pictured: Russian forces, near Markyne, Novoazovsk District, Donetsk Region within last 48 hours)

The second Ukrainian ceasefire appears to have fallen apart as reports from around the country indicate that heavy fighting has resumed.

Though Western media has yet to report on activity that began Sunday, independent journalists and eye witnesses have been updating social networks with photos, videos and first-hand accounts.

It’s all-out war in the Ukraine with multiple Ukrainian cities now under attack by rockets, mortars and heavy artillery fire

Other sources note that as many as 50,000 Russian military personnel have massed either inside of Ukraine or directly on its border, with heavy armor, including T-90A tanks making their way to the hot zones:

Ukrainian activists on August 14-15 published photos of the Russian amour on their Facebook page. Military authorities in Ukraine believe the number of Russian troops within and close to its borders has risen to more than 50,000, raising fears of a substantial escalation in the conflict raging in Ukraine’s eastern regions.

russian-invasion-twitter.jpg

Sources on twitter are confirming that Russian T90-A tanks are beginning to move into the Ukraine and heading for the city of Donetsk to reinforce rebel held (pro-Russian) positions.

Current intelligence suggests that once Russian military hardware reaches Donetsk, a battle for the strategic port city of Mariupol Ukraine will commence. Mariupol, steel-making city of 500,000 is the biggest, urban center in the conflict zone still controlled by Kiev.

Source: WWIII Started An No One Seems To Have Noticed

Fighting and a major war resumption in Ukraine is underway, as noted by Mish Shedlock:
  • Intense shelling from multiple positions started in #Donetsk
  • South of #Donetsk very heavy combat, I see lots of explosions there, very scary
  • Intense shelling started also in #Starohnativka.
  • #Mariupol can hear heavy shelling from the east.
  • Intensity of Ukrainian shellings on #Putilovka and #Spartak is increasing!
  • Ukrainian shellings on #Sahanka and #Oktyabr (with MRLS Grad)! East of #Mariupol

No Confirmation

I can find no confirmation anywhere else. I called my friend Jacob Dreizin (a reader who speaks Russian and can read Ukrainian) and asked what he knew about a major escalation and received this reply:

Not yet, but likely soon. It’s simply too hot for a major advance now. Temperatures are in the 90s (32+ Celsius). We will not see a major advance until temperature breaks to the mid-70s (24 or below Celsius). That may happen sometime this week“.

Dreizin did say the shelling has been the most intense since March, before the Minsk accord.

With a population of nearly one million people, the contested city of Donetsk is at the center of the dispute. Videos below show that the city is now under heavy artillery attack:
Last year the United States targeted Russian President Vladimir Putin’s personal assets, along with the assets of scores of other Russian officials and businessmen. At that time we warned that Putin would not take such a move lying down and surrender to the will of the West.

As the President of Russia, what do you do when those same sanctions now target your personal wealth and business interests? Do you sit idly by while $40 billion dollars are confiscated from your personal accounts? What course of action do you take next?

That is exactly the position that Vladimir Putin is now in, and according to the following report, National Security Adviser Susan Rice makes it clear that the United States is seriously considering this as an option.

The strategy may have worked out great when the United States seized the assets of deposed leaders in Egypt and Libya. It’s an entirely different matter when you target the President of a nuclear armed nation and one who has had no qualms about going head-to-head with the United States, not just in rhetoric but with his actions both economically and militarily.

It’s been suggested that Vladimir Putin may have prepared a multi-pronged strategy that may include an attack on U.S. financial markets as part of a broader war strategy, the timing of which would be almost impeccable given that a variety of analysts and insiders have warned that the Fall of 2015 may see an increase in theacceleration and intensity of economic crisis.

Why blame domestic fiscal policy or central bank machinations when Russia would be an ideal scapegoat for a U.S. stock market crash and subsequent economic collapse.

Details remain sketchy, but if Russia has in fact put boots on the ground in Ukraine then we could well be seeing the opening salvos of World War III in real-time.

Ready For War: “Russia Will Never, Ever Give Up Crimea Without a Fight”
Editor’s Note: The back and forth struggle for territorial hegemony may soon be coming to a head on the Eastern Front. The west has ousted Kremlin-backed President Yanukovych and replaced him with a former central banker named Arseny Yatseniuk. While Europe and the United States say that the new President has been legally appointed by the people of the Ukraine, Yanukovych has publicly disagreed on Russian television, claiming that the appointment is “illegitimate.” For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin has remained largely silent over the affair – at least overtly. Behind the scenes, however, the former KGB operative has mobilized tens of thousands of troops and re-positioned Russian military assets around Europe and even in our own backyard. For all intents and purposes, this build-up looks very much like a country preparing to go to war. Earlier this week national security adviser Susan Rice warned that Russian troop intervention in the Ukraine would be a “grave mistake,” and that the issue of Ukraine should be left to the people of that country. “This is not about the U.S. and Russia,” noted Rice. But with recent analysis suggesting that the U.S. played a role in February’s Ukranian revolution, it’s clear that this is exactly what it’s about.

Ukraine is said to be where Russian civilization began. That, coupled with the fact that the Carpathian Mountains are a key strategic defense barrier for invasion and that Russia has had a long-standing naval base in Crimea, one would be hard-pressed to believe that Vladimir Putin will simply let the Ukraine fall to western influence. In the article below Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse highlights twelve key signs suggesting that it would be a grave mistake for us to ignore Russia’s determination to maintain control over the Ukraine and Crimea.

Has the fuse on the powder keg been lit?

12 Signs That Russia Is Ready To Fight A War Over Crimea
By Michael Snyder

Russia will never, ever give up Crimea without a fight. Anyone that thinks otherwise is just being delusional. TheRussian Black Sea fleet’s main base at Sevastopol is far too strategically important. In addition, ethnic Russians make up approximately 60 percent of the population of Crimea, and most of the population is rabidly pro-Russian. In fact, many prominent Crimean politicians are already calling for reunification with Russia. So if you have been thinking that Russia is just going to fold up shop and go home now that pro-European protesters have violently seized power in Kiev, you can quit holding your breath. The truth is that Russia is more than willing to fight a war over Crimea. And considering the fact that vitally important pipelines that pump natural gas from Russia to the rest of Europe go right through Ukraine, it is not likely that Russia will just willingly hand the rest of Ukraine over to the U.S. and the EU either. If the U.S. and the EU push too hard in Ukraine, a major regional war may erupt which could ultimately lead to something much larger.

Russia and Ukraine have very deep historical ties. Most Americans may not think that Ukraine is very important, but the Russians consider Ukraine to be of the utmost strategic importance.

As an American, how would you feel if another nation funded and organized the violent overthrow of the democratically-elected Canadian government and replaced it with a government that was virulently anti-American?

By doing this to Ukraine, the United States and the EU are essentially sticking a pin in Russia’s eye. Needless to say, Russia is extremely angry at this point and they are gearing up for war.

The following are 12 signs that Russia is ready to fight a war over Crimea…

#1 More Russian military vehicles continue to pour into Crimea. Just check out this video.

#2 Russian military vehicles have been photographed in the main square of Sevastopol.

#3 Russian military jets near the border with Ukraine have been put on combat alert.

#4 Russia has ordered “surprise military exercises” along the Ukrainian border.

#5 In connection with those “exercises”, it is being reported that Russia has deployed 150,000 troops along the border with Ukraine.

#6 Russia already has approximately 26,000 troops stationed at their naval base in Sevastopol.

#7 Russian ships carrying additional soldiers have been spotted off the coast of Crimea…

Russia’s large landing ship Nikolai Filchenkov has arrived near the Russia Black Sea Fleet’s base at Sevastopol, which Russia has leased from Ukraine since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.

The ship is reported to be carrying as many as 200 soldiers and has joined four additional ships carrying an unknown amount of Special Forces troops. Flot.com also reported over the weekend that personnel from the 45th Airborne Special Forces unit and additional divisions had been airlifted into Anapa, a city on Russia’s Black Sea coastline.

#8 Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu made the following statement to reporters on Wednesday…

“Measures are taken to guarantee the security of our facilities.”

#9 An unidentified Russian official has told the Financial Times that Russia is willing to use military force to protect Crimea…

Moscow earlier revealed that it would be ready to go for war over the Crimea region in order to protect the large population and army installations.

“If Ukraine breaks apart, it will trigger a war. They will lose Crimea first [because] we will go in and protect [it], just as we did in Georgia,” an unidentified Russian official told the Financial Times.

#10 Officials in Sevastopol have “installed” a Russian citizen as mayor of the city.

#11 Approximately 120 pro-Russian gunmen have seized the Crimean parliament building and have raised the Russian flag.

#12 There are rumors that Russian authorities have offered protection to ousted Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych…

Viktor F. Yanukovych, the ousted president of Ukraine, declared on Thursday that he remained the lawful president of the country and appealed to Russia to “secure my personal safety from the actions of extremists.” Russian news agencies reported that he had already arrived in Russia, but officials did not immediately confirm that.

No matter what the “new government” in Kiev says, and no matter how hard the U.S. and the EU push, Russia will never give up Crimea. The following is what a recent Debka article had to say about the matter…

There is no way that President Vladimir Putin will relinquish Russian control of the Crimean peninsula and its military bases there – or more particularly the big Black Sea naval base at Sevastopol. This military stronghold is the key to Russia’s Middle East policy. If it is imperiled, so too are Russia’s military posture in Syria and its strategic understandings with Iran.

And you know what?

The people of Crimea do not want Russia to leave either. In fact, they overwhelmingly want Russia to help defend them against the “new government” in Kiev.

As you read this, militia groups are being formed in Crimea to fight back against the “nationalist invasion” that they are anticipating. Just check out the following excerpt from a recent Time Magazine article

Many of the people at the rally in Sevastopol were not just ready to believe. They were convinced of theimminent nationalist invasion. What scared them most were the right-wing political parties and militant groups that have played a role in Ukraine’s revolution. “What do you think they’re going to do with all those weapons they seized from police in Kiev? They’re going to come here and make war,” said Sergei Bochenko, who identified himself as the commander of a local militia group in Sevastopol called the Southern Russian Cossack Battalion.

In preparation, he said, his group of several hundred men had armed themselves with assault rifles and begun to train for battle. “There’s not a chance in hell we’re going to accept the rule of that fascist scum running around in Kiev with swastikas,” he said. That may be overstating the case. Nowhere in Ukraine has the uprising involved neo-Nazi groups, and no swastikas have appeared on the revolution’s insignia. But every one of the dozen or so people TIME spoke to in Sevastopol was certain that the revolt was run by fascists, most likely on the payroll of the U.S. State Department.

And just remember what happened back in 2008 in South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The Russians have already shown that they are not afraid to militarily intervene in order to protect Russian citizens.

So what would the U.S. and the EU do if a war erupts between Russia and Ukraine?

Would they risk a direct military confrontation with Russia in order to help Ukraine?

I am very concerned about where all of this could be heading.

Putin Targets America’s Achilles Heel: “He’s Going to Destroy the Stock Markets”
Putin-Target-Americas-Achilles-Heel.jpg

In 2012 an elite insider claimed that on or around March 4, 2014 the doomsday clock would ring, the effect of which would be a complete collapse of the U.S. economy. How former Vice Presidential adviser Grady Means came to this conclusion with a specific target date may forever remain clouded in secrecy. But given the state of current affairs around the world today, one can’t help but consider that maybe Grady Means was on to something. With the fight over political and resource control in the Ukraine heating up, is it possible the Means was referring to this very set of circumstances?

We know the U.S. economy is literally on the brink of a collapse. All we need now is a triggering mechanism.

Contrarian investor and commentator Greg Mannarino thinks it could be happening right now, and he explains his highly viable theory in the broadcast below.

In essence, Mannarino warns that Russia’s Vladimir Putin may be using the current geo-political climate to position his pieces on the grand chessboard with the end game being a total wipe out of domestic equity markets and the U.S. dollar itself .

Given the horrid economic fundamentals in the U.S., mounting and un-serviceable debt levels, and the fact that China is now moving lock-step with their Russian counterparts, could we be seeing the final stages of a coordinated strike on U.S. economic and financial interests?

A few more moves and it could be Checkmate:

Putin understands the Achilles heel is this hyperinflated stock market… this man is brilliant.

Since we realize all warfare is based on deception, this backing off of troops here is a part of the play.

When he re-introduces those troops and makes his move here it’s going to crush the U.S. equity markets and take trillions of dollars out of this market and a lot of peoples’ pockets.

Vladimir Putin is not in any way going to back down to Barack Obama or any of the Western powers. He has no reason to do that. He understands where this going and what he needs to do to make this work here.

So this is the set up in my opinion.

He’s allowing cash to flow back into the world markets, more specifically into the U.S. equity market. He’s going to re-introduce his troops almost in a Blitzkrieg type fashion and he’s going to destroy the stock markets.

We also know this… Vladimir Putin has been betting against the U.S. dollar for years by acquiring gold, just like you should be doing.

… The debt of the United States is in the biggest bubble in the history of the world. He knows all this.

This relief rally here… I can’t imagine that it’s going to last because he’s going to re-introduce troops here. It’s going to destroy this relief rally and then some.

We’re going to get panic selling… I think it can happen pretty soon.

Vladimir Putin is pulling a huge bluff on everyone right now allowing equities on a global scale to rise, only to reverse this move and crush equity markets which will destroy the United States economy.

The wealth effect that the Fed has created… Vladimir Putin knows that it is nothing more than smoke and mirrors. And he’s going to take advantage of that.

Make no mistake. Vladimir Putin strives to make Russia a global super power. China wants the same. In order for that to happen the United States of America must be crushed, and that starts with destroying our economy. And if that means a temporary destruction of global equity markets then that’s what Russia and China will do. Unlike President Obama, who bases his decisions on political surveys and half baked short-term platitudes, these nations operate with stratagems spanning decades.

For all we know, it was Putin himself who orchestrated the Ukranian coup. He’s a former KGB operative, a brilliant strategist and he comes from the ‘old school’ of Russian thought. Every move is carefully calculated and executed. While President Obama plays checkers, Putin is executing a Réti Maneuver designed to confuse and frustrate his opponent while leaving multiple pathways for the fait accompli.

The majority of informed readers understand that the collapse of America as we know it today is inevitable. It has always only been a question of “when.”

Perhaps Vladimir Putin will soon give us an answer.

This Means War: US To Target Putin’s Personal $40 Billion Stash

Editor’s Note: Consider for a moment that you are President Vladimir Putin. You’ve seen US and European sanctions seize the personal wealth of members of your parliament through various banking mechanisms as a result of their material support for the actions in Crimea.

Of course, as Zero Hedge notes, we’re sure the Obama administration “has considered all the intended and unintended consequences of such a move.”

While the White House has continually threatened further sanctions against Russia for non-de-escalation (even as it un-de-escalates itself), thespecifics of the additional sanctions have been sparse. German CEO warnings over blowback from economic sanctions… the “nonsense” of replacing Russian gas with US gasthe Russian warnings of “interdependence” and “boomerangs”… all reduce the West’s arsenal of financial sanctions. But, as The Times of London reports, perhaps the US has found a crucial pain point for Putin – a sanctions regime that would target Putin’s personal wealth, which includes a reported $40 billion stashed in Swiss bank accounts.

As The Hill reports,

The White House on Friday refused to comment on reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s personal wealth could be targeted if the West were to move ahead with additional sanctions over Ukraine.
I’m not going to get into foreshadowing particular individuals or entities that the United States may target,” national security adviser Susan Rice told reporters at the White House. “But let me just say we’ve been clear that there are additional individuals, officials, close associates of senior leadership, oligarchs and those entities that they are associated with that remain very much potential targets of additional sanctions.”

The Times of London reported Friday that the U.S. was preparing a sanctions regime that would target Putin’s personal wealth, which includes a reported $40 billion stashed in Swiss bank accounts.

Putin’s actual holdings are a tightly held secret, and the extent of his holdings are difficult to estimate. But a threat of trying to freeze the Russian president’s personal assets could have played a role in a deal brokered Thursday by foreign ministers from the U.S., Ukraine, Russia and European Union.
Perhaps it is worth remembering Putin’s response from last week’s Q&A

Putin was asked why the US can do whatever it wants and no one punishes them, while attempts are being made to punish Russia.
“The US is certainly one of the world’s leaders. At some point it seemed that it was the only leader and a uni-polar system was in place. Today it appears that is not the case. Everything in the world is interdependent and once you try to punish someone, in the end you will cut off your nose to spite your face,” he said.

Though we are sure Obama and his team have considered all the intended and unintended consequences of any such actions

Russian troops will not fight with the temps in the 90's f ? U.S troops fight months on end in above 100 f . So has czech , Poland , German , U.K , Salvadorian , Hondurian , French . No offence to the ones I left out but after a day at work like I just put in my memory is failing me .

I believe at this time Russia is not the biggest tread to US but China is getting ready to retaliate with Cyber warfare measures and US is NOT prepared at all for that? Russia is for the EU ?

Kyiv, August 23, 2015. Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) eliminated a self-proclaimed “DPR” spy network in Luhansk region. SBU officers detained the organizer who was trying to recruit law enforcement officers and military men. The pro-Russian agent was personally sending informants to Russia for interviews with Russian intelligence. The detained was supplying the occupants with strategic information regarding Ukrainian Army through this spyring.

Ukrainian intelligence report in which the militants are about to commit a series of attacks during Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24. Chiefs of self-proclaimed “Luhansk People’s Republic” (“LPR”) and “DPR” are actively spreading information regarding presumed assault of the Ukrainian Army. Militants might be wearing Ukrainian uniforms and preparing to fire at at residential quarters of the militant-controlled towns in order to discrediting Ukrainian military and create favorable picture for the Russian media. They also want to get a pretext to assault Ukrainian positions. We call upon all citizens to stay vigilant and not fall prey to the Russian propaganda. Residents of militant-controlled towns must be ready to move to a safe hiding place, should militants start shelling.

In the Luhansk sector, Russia-backed militants shot at Ukrainian forces near Shchastya from artillery. Militant groups targeted Ukrainian positions from a tank, while using 120 mortars near Popasna.

Ceasefire violations were most frequent in the Donetsk sector. Ukrainian forces observed the use of militant armor vehicles near Opytne and 122 mm artillery and 120 mm mortars close to Avdiivka. Although militants mostly targeted Maryinka and Karsnohorivka from light arms and heavy machine guns, one 120 mm mortar shelling has been observed. Situation remained tense in the vicinity of Artemivsk, as pro-Russian groups instigated a number of provocations close to Luhanske village.

In the Mariupol sector, militants deployed mortars near Shyrokyne and instigated provocations not far from Bohdanivka, Novoselivka and Hranitne.

One Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action and four were wounded in action in the last 24 hours.

In Kharkiv region, Ukraine’s Security Service eliminated a subversive group coordinated and financed by a chief of ‘Oplot’ militant organization, Yevhen Zhylin. Three men were detained; all of them former convicts. The group was set in April 2015 by a high-ranking militant – nom de guerre “Tank” – from the so-called “DPR ministry of the state security”. He sent a woman with nom de guerre “Leesa” to Kharkiv to effect direct coordination of the group. The female militant has been fighting against Ukrainian troops for several months now. Law enforcements seized a RPG-18 grenade discharger, homemade explosive devices, grenades and other weapons while searching flats and hiding places.

Moreover, Ukrainian security services detained another pro-Russian informant in Starobilsk, Luhansk region. While searching the detainee’s residence, a RPG-26 grenade discharger, eight hand grenades, two boxes of gunpowder, five howitzer projectiles and a big number of cartridges have been seized.

George Soros and friends are behind it. He gave the Clinton's nearly 8.5 billion dollars to have the Ukrainian President tossed out and implement their own leader. This is about stopping Russia in Syria and Iran. This retaliation is for Russia sticking up for them. Isolating Russia as Ukraine is the last holdout for a NATO Alliance to completely block in Russia with a missile defense shield and Isolating Russia from the Mediterranean Sea, hence the annexation of Crimea. People need to understand the very long history with Russia, Ukraine and Poland. Many many families have ties on all sides. what Obama did in Ukraine was illegal no president can legally engage the US in war without congress and Obama put the US into a Ukrainian civil war backing the bad guys who murder children and women day and night and bomb public squares in the middle of the day with no warning or even an enemy target. Most people in the Western World are missing 90% of reality because they prefer to believe western Media, that's also why 90 % of people in the Western are to stupid to have opinions about anything that have nothing to do with reality?
Specifically the Western "Christian Moral Bible thumping idiots" who prefer to live under corrupt rulers in the world!!

My believe about MH17 is still that Ukraine shot down the plane with air to air missile mistaking it for Putin's plane that was in the same area around the same time, but trying to blame Putin is more popular that blaming the US murderes who have done this several times already in the past. Putin is like chuck norris the grim reaper is afraid of him. But chances are if invasion hits I'm prepared for everything except an H-bomb or high explosives dropped on za. But why other than the fact that we have the world's largest uranium reserve.

I'm sure after US is finished with Russia and China they will come to Africa for the minerals, diamonds and gold ? China is in there already getting much minerals supply and US will want it??. They will think when defeating China they will get automaticly at those riches instead of digging them up self. Like in Ukraine they want the gold and coal deposits and all the natutal gas, that's why vice-pres. Biden son is already in place in Ukraine ?

In Ukraine, the development of the mentioned fields is unprofitable operation that supports only through state subsidies from the budget, to save jobs. I will never believe that someone is interested in the United States to subsidize unprofitable industry deliberately.

Kyiv, August 27, 2015. The situation in the Mariupol sector escalated yesterday as Russia-backed militants fired upon Ukrainian positions on the first and second defense lines near Starohnativka 12 times between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. yesterday. Apart from mortars and grenade launchers, our troops near Bohdanivka were attacked by multiple rocket launcher systems. A militant artillery attack also took place near Lebedynske. Seven Ukrainian servicemen were killed in action and 13 were wounded in action over the last day.

In the Luhansk sector, militants used mortars and grenade launchers to shell the area near Stanytsia Luhanska. As a result, one house was burnt down, three more houses and gas pipeline were damaged. Two civilians were struck by a militant mine in a nearby village. The situation is similar near Shchastya, though militants there are conducting low-intensity fire there both during the day and at night. It was more or less calm in the area of Bakhmutska road. Three militant provocations were registered in Tryokhizbenka, Krymske and Novotoshkivske.

It was calm on the section of the frontline from between Orikhove, Zolote, and Popasna. Troyitske was the major hotspot in Luhansk region close to the junction with Donetsk region. Our positions were fired upon twice from mortars and twice from tanks in the evening. According to intelligence, the enemy’s heavy weapons are amassed West of Kalynove and Almazna on the enemy’s frontline.

In the Donetsk sector, militants conducted three artillery and one mortar attack upon the frontline positions of ATO forces in Luhanske between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., as well as a series of minor provocations. Militant artillery units are deployed to Vuhlehirsk. Combat actions intensified North and West of Horlivka. Up to 10 incidences of ceasefire violation by militants were registered in Zaitseve, Mayorsk and Kirove. In addition to the skirmishes on the frontline, there was a series of mortar attacks and one artillery attack. Militant artillery positions are set up in the residential blocks of Horlivka, in particular near Terykonna station.

A period of relative calm was observed between Horlivka and Yasynuvata. Incessant combat actions of moderate intensity are occurring near the Donetsk airport. As before, militants keep their tanks and artillery on the frontline and actively use them after dawn, stated the ATO spokesperson. The density of the enemy’s fire is growing near Krasnohorivka and Maryinka. For the first time, more enemy attacks were registered in this area than between Avdiivka and Pisky. Under conditions of dense residential construction and varying landscape the enemy is unsuccessfully trying to push Ukrainian forces out of their positions. Militants engage with both minor provocations that grow into long-lasting skirmishes and long-range artillery attacks, the area exiting from Donetsk towards Mariupol was relatively quiet.

According to the State Border Guard Service, Russia is conducting reconnaissance activities using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) daily in northern Lugansk region. The border guards further stated that Russian UAVs violate Ukraine’s air space along the Babycheve –– Poltavske route. The flights of Russian fighter jets along the border were registered in Tarasovsky district of the Rostov region in the Russian Federation that borders on the Stanychno-Luhansky district of Luhansk region yesterday morning.

Ukrainian troops registered three flights by militant UAVs in ATO zone yesterday.

Ukrainian law enforcement has been detaining alleged militant accomplices. One of the detained is a Donetsk resident who has been informing militants of the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic” (“DPR”) on the movement of Ukrainian forces. Two more female accomplices of the occupants were detained in Zolote and Severodonetsk in Luhansk region.

In Maryinka, policemen seized an anti-tank grenade launcher, three ammunition rounds for an RPG-7 grenade launcher, seven combat grenades with fuses and over 400 rounds of ammunition. The arsenal was hidden in an abandoned burned-down house.

Note: This text is a transcript of the official briefing of the spokesperson of Administration of the President of Ukraine on ATO-related issues. Uaposition can not change the wording and terms used by the spokesperson. We disagree with the used terms “Russian backed militants” and “Pro Russian terrorist” instead of “Russian troops” and “Russian terrorists”. However, this is official terminology of Ukrainian authorities because as of now Ukrainian authorities don’t recognize Russia as a Party to the Conflict in Ukraine and don’t severs diplomatic relations and economic cooperation.

Operational data from Information Resistance:
Over the last 24 hours, Russian-terrorist troops in the conflict zone in Donbas continued actively shelling the positions of Ukrainian troops, using small arms (practically along the entire demarcation line) as well as 122 mm and 152 mm artillery, armored vehicles, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars; the use of MLRS was also recorded.

In particular, in the Donetsk sector, terrorists made multiple strikes from 120 mm and 82 mm mortars on the advanced ATO forces’ positions in the area of Opytne – Vodyane, south and northeast of Avdiivka, and in the vicinity of Pisky. Near the settlement of Mar’inka, militants employed 152 mm artillery and 120 mm mortars; over the past 24 hours, terrorists in this area also actively used AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars, which were used for brief fire strikes and then moved along the front line.

In the area of Lozove, Krasnohorivka, Pisky, Starohnativka, Prokhorivka, and Orlivske, the enemy used 152 mm artillery on multiple occasions. Eight 152 mm shells were detonated in the residential sector ofKrasnohorivka.

On the Troitske – Novhorodske – Shumy stretch, the enemy opened fire on the positions of Ukrainian troops using 120 mm mortars.

Terrorists stationed in the areas between Druzhba and Zaitseve, and Zaitseve – Dacha, carried out sporadic mortar and artillery fire in the direction of Kurdyumivka. In these areas, militants use mortars of the two main calibers – 82 mm and 120 mm. A militant self-propelled artillery unit (10-12 units of “Gvozdika” 2S1 self-propelled 12 mm artillery) was observed maneuvering along the front north of Horlivka.

In the vicinity of Popasna, Katerynivka, and Zaitseve, the enemy is active in the first line, employing AGS-17 grenade launchers and 120 mm mortars (3 fire groups with mortars operating from the “greenery”). Militant sabotage and reconnaissance groups were also recorded in this area.

Near Novotoshkivka, Krymske, and Shchastya, the enemy carried out continuous shelling from mortars, mobile ZU-23-2 artillery units, and AGS-17 grenade launchers. Militants also used Grad-P 9P132 reactive artillery systems. Similar terrorist activity was observed in the vicinity of Stanytsia Luhanska, where a new reinforced insurgent battalion has been transferred to the front.

In the coastal areas, the enemy is particularly active, employing the whole range of heavy weaponry to shell the ATO forces’ positions: 122 mm and 152 mm artillery, armored vehicles, 120 mm mortars, and MLRS. Enemy artillery positions (a total of 8 batteries) are located in the vicinity of Oktyabr, Kominternove, and Sakhanka. As the IR group reported earlier, these artillery units are combined into three artillery groups operating in this direction.

During the past 24 hours, terrorist armored vehicles were active on the front line:

– several groups of armored combat vehicles (a total of six BMP-2 armored infantry vehicles and five BTR-80 armored personnel carriers) covertly advanced to the front line in the vicinity of Krymske and Novotoshkivka. Over the past 24 hours, AFVs opened fire from the neutral zone several times on the ATO forces’ strongholds, using 30-mm automatic weapons;

– north of Avdiivka, a solitary militant tank opened fire from a camouflaged firing position in the “greenery”;

– north of Hranitne, in the area reaching as far as Starohnativka, two groups of militant tanks and armored combat vehicles are operating (total of 5 tanks and 11 ACVs). They attempted to conduct en masse shelling on the advanced ATO positions using the on-board weapons of armored vehicles;

– in the area of the Svitlodarsk bridgehead (southeast of Luhanske and Myronivske), a terrorist tank platoon was observed in the first line, carrying out “harassing” shelling under cover of dense mortar fire;

– a terrorist tank unit (8 tanks, up to a company in strength) is operating northwest of Stanytsia Luhanska. During the past 24 hours, three tanks from this unit were used to deliver concentrated fire strikes on the front edge of the ATO forces;

– in the vicinity of Sakhanka and Bezymenna, an incomplete militant tank battalion is operating, using one company at a time. From time to time, 3-4 tanks advance to the front line, as far as the neutral zone, and deliver precision fire on the positions of Ukrainian troops.

Southeast of Krasnohorivka, four terrorist tanks were spotted in the first line, spread out and camouflaged in the civilian residential areas.

Rotation of militant infantry units was observed on the Lozove – Krasnohorivka – Mar’inka stretch. Rotation is carried out by using militant units (mainly Russian mercenaries, with notably low levels of training) transferred to the Petrovskyi district of Donetsk.

The enemy transferred an additional infantry unit on board of BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles and BTR-80 armored personnel carriers to the area of Telmanove.

The “LNR” [Luhansk People’s Republic] instituted emergency fuel-saving measures in militant units. Any movement of equipment not related to “combat missions” (on personal errands) is strictly forbidden, under threat of harsh punishment. In the rear areas, the “commandant’s office” is in charge of controlling vehicle movement, while at the front, the gang commanders are responsible for that.

I would think either the Eukrainian Military needs to make a push on these terrorist and secure its Eastern Border or let the sector break away like Georgia did . I know that any movement on the Russian backed Terrorist could give Russia the excuse to cross the border but how long can this go on like it is . Letting them break away and form a puppet Republic for Russia does not seem to make sence either . Whats the popular view in Ukraine ?

The only option is to block had occupied the territory of what is actually being done. But the problem is that the terrorists are constantly trying to expand their control of the attacking line of defense of the Ukrainian army. This problem will be solved only after the saturation of the Ukrainian army with modern anti-tank weapons that will make attempts at suicide attack teroristov and supply Russian military equipment in teroristov pointless costs.
