The Epley maneuver is for vertigo caused by crystals forming and getting loose the the fluid of the inner ear. These crystals floating around cause incorrect messages to be sent to your brain regarding your position. I think the crystals can also impede the fluid from moving around freely as it normally does as we maintain balance. The Epley maneuver is an attempt to flush those crystals out of the inner ear canals. You do specific motions in a specific sequence, tilt head, turn head, ... in a manner that simulates the twisting/turning pathways in the inner ear. The hope is that the fluid will slosh in the directions you are turning the head so the crystals follow the channels of the inner ear and out of the canals. First step is to determine which side is blocked, because the movements are done specific for which side the blockage is on.
After just having had a stroke, Caribou's vertigo is probably not because of these crystals (although it could be - if he had a stroke AND a case of unrelated crystals at the same time). Most likely Caribou's vertigo is central in nature. Caused by an issue in the brain, not the inner ear. The Epley maneuver does not help with that kind of vertigo. There are no crystal/fluid issues at play for central vertigo.
