Odd just thought about taxes and a job long ago. US steel workers union, welder. I had a nice piece work job welding parts for a train. It was a quota system but in my normal 8hr shift I produced 10hrs worth of parts everyday. Basically a 40hr week in 4 days.
If I worked 8hrs on friday I’d be paid for 10hrs overtime for the week, basically. But, if I took off work at noon on friday I’d only be paid 4hrs OT.
Because of some invisible tax bracket line… Leaving at noon on friday... after taxes I took home $50 more than if I worked all of friday and produced a normal 10hrs worth of parts for that day.
The gubment took every penny of my ot if I worked 8hrs mon-fri. Needles to say, I took friday afternoons off.
