Ordered a few seeds this morning, it seems like they are getting more expensive.

We have been paying $10 or under per seed.
You can't harvest seeds from all those giant buds?
I only remember when I was a teenager, having to beat the seeds out of the stuff we worked with and throwing them away because they made people's 'joints' blow up .
Just letting a few plants 'go to seed' could save you some money.

Normally, in this Brave New Weed-Growing World, ya yank the male plants ASAP to prevent them from pollinating the female plants, which leads to better quality bud in the long run... however, it'd be great to let one or two good strains mingle, but that requires a separate growing area, unless ya wanna risk your entire crop. I might actually just do what you're saying, Supe, if I can separate the male plants and toss one female their way just for reseeding purposes. Do it on the other end of the 1/2-acre lot, lol... I bought regular seeds this time around, so I'm gonna have a mix of male & female plants. Only time will tell whether the ratio is 50-50, but I am considering the very thing ya mentioned, lol. Cheers!!! 🍺

My eight little seedlings aren't even as big as those two plants in the foreground, but they're growing... even if some die, I should get ounces of weed from those that survive. Still gotta cull the males too, I'm hoping fortune favors me, lol. ;)

You are just so far in the grow before you can *** a plant, it’s really disappointing.

After the seedlings are rooted and starting their 24 hr/ day light schedule take cuttings and root them. Put the clones in a 12 hr cycle to induce flowering. *** the clone and you *** the donor.

Note
Some varieties will go hermaphroditic and switch if stressed.

Just a thought.

Just catching up to this thread, HB... some of the seedlings did NOT make it, in fact all of the Purple African Magic seedlings died, I think that strain is a PITA to grow outdoors, lol. However, some of my plants derived from seeds bought locally are doing well, I have four plants that look healthy and two which are struggling but still alive, so we'll see what happens. I'll take some pics later and post 'em... I just watered the plants this morning, as this ongoing drought is brutal. We have rain in the forecast for tomorrow and Monday, so hopefully that arrives and eases the drought. 😬

P.S. I'm tempted to buy one more round of local seeds for $40, it's probably not too late to start 'em, lol... 🤔

I took some shots of the plants as I headed out the door this morning, here they are... the tallest and healthiest plant is only about 14" high right now, growth has been slow due to the drought & heat, but if the monsoon rains arrive, those will help big-time. I put a little steer manure down around the base of each plant, not touching the stems but nearby, yeah? Maybe that'll help too, we'll see... I'm just waiting for those rains to arrive, they'll be a game-changer. Maybe next year I'll try my hand at indoor growing, we'll see what happens this season. 😒

Last pic shows the "runt of the litter"---dunno why this one is struggling, but it's still alive, and we have rain in the forecast for Sunday & Monday, so maybe it'll pull through and produce in the long run. Only time will tell... maybe I should clear those pine needles outta there, they might be causing a problem.

Well, I haven't done anything to these plants except put 'em in the ground and water 'em... but you can "top" a plant early on and force it to grow outward more than upward, creating a bushy effect. I have not topped these plants, I'm just trying to get 'em started during this ongoing drought. Hashbrown probably knows more about topping and pruning plants than I do, I'm just trying to grow a few legal plants here in the high desert. I do use good amended soil for everything I plant, that's necessary in the desert... only the toughest and hardiest plants & shrubs grow in soil which has not been amended. I don't use chemicals on the weed either, just organic matter and natural fertilizer. 😒

Last season, I had great success growing dope, but this season I'm off to a slower start due to the drought. If I can hang on until the monsoon rains arrive, these plants may yet grow large and produce plenty of bud. All I can do is try my best... same goes for the fruits & veggies I'm growing in the garden. So far, I think the watermelon plants are doing the best this season, though my squash plants are flowering and should produce plenty of squash once the rains arrive and boost growth. It's not just the water, consistent or successive rains will soften the soil enough to permit better root growth. That is key to good overall growth in the sun-baked high desert, where soil can dry out and harden over time.

Didnt know you could top a plant. Mine are getting pretty tall, planted them in May, wonder if I could top them? Will have to look that up. I dont use chemicals either. I got some mulch from the sawmill and man does it help holding moisture, maybe look up Back to Eden. This guy lives in CO.

I use mulch as part of my soil amendment program... it certainly helps. Maybe I should drop by one of the local lumber yards and see if they have any sawdust I can have, lol. I'll use any natural trick I can to boost growth, but I draw the line at chemicals... no Monsanto weed for this kid, lol. ;)

I have to keep my plants under 6 feet tall to finish inside. I top plant’s weekly to keep them as wide and short as possible until I change the light schedule to promote budding. At that time they usually shoot up another 20%. When you top your plant it promotes more sights for budding.making a much larger harvest.

I had a runt plant like that last year. When it came around it got huge and produced almost a full 5 gallon bucket of buds. I almost gave up on it several times glad I didn’t!

I'm hoping that runt survives the week of triple-digit weather ahead... I just watered it this morning, and I'll water it again this evening. Might start checking the plants in mid-afternoon as well, maybe take a gallon jug of water out there and spread it around. This heat wouldn't be so bad if we just had more rain, aye?

We keep our house around 70 degrees it’s still a job to keep the grow room under 90 degrees.
