Not really humor but I wanted to put this somewhere.

Why Did Mr. Rogers Wear A Sweater?
Captain Kangaroo passed away on January 23, 2004 at age 76, which is odd, because he always looked to be 76. (DOB: 6/27/27)

His death reminded me of the following story.
Some people have been a bit offended that the actor, Lee Marvin, is buried in a grave alongside 3 and 4-star generals at Arlington National Cemetery . His marker gives his name, rank (PVT) and service (USMC). Nothing else.
Here's a guy who was only a famous movie star who served his time, why the heck does he rate burial with these guys?
Well, following is the amazing answer:

I always liked Lee Marvin, but didn't know the extent of his Corps experiences.

In a time when many Hollywood stars served their country in the armed forces often in rear echelon posts where they were carefully protected, only to be trotted out to perform for the cameras in war bond promotions, Lee Marvin was a genuine hero. He won the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima . There is only one higher Naval award. the Medal Of Honor!

If that is a surprising comment on the true character of the man, he credits his sergeant with an even greater show of bravery.
Dialog from "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson":
His guest was Lee Marvin...

Johnny said, "Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are unaware that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima ..
and that during the course of that action you earned the Navy Cross and were severely wounded."
"Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the bottom and they gave me
the Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi. Bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is guys getting shot hauling you down. But, Johnny, at Iwo , I served under the bravest man I ever knew... We both got the Cross the same day, but what he did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison.
That dumb guy actually stood up on Red beach and directed his
troops to move forward and get the hell off the beach..
Bullets flying by, with mortar rounds landing everywhere and he stood there as the main target of gunfire so that he could get his men to safety. He did this on more than one occasion because his men's safety was more important than his own life.
That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends. When they brought me off Suribachi we passed the Sergeant and he lit a smoke and passed it to me, lying on my belly on the litter and said, "Where'd they get you Lee?" "Well Bob....
if you make it home before me, tell Mom to sell the outhouse!"

Johnny, I'm not lying, Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man I ever knew. The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan. You and the world know him as Captain Kangaroo."

On another note, there was this wimpy little man on PBS, gentle and quiet. Mr. Rogers is another of those you would least suspect of being anything but what he now portrays to our youth.
But Mr. Rogers was a
U.S. Navy Seal, combat-proven in Vietnam with over twenty-five confirmed kills to his name. He wore a long-sleeved sweater on TV to cover the many tattoos on his forearm and biceps. He was a master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat, able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat.

After the war Mr. Rogers became an ordained Presbyterian minister and therefore, a pacifist Vowing to never harm another human, he also dedicated the rest of his life to trying to help lead children on the right path in life. He hid away the tattoos and his past life and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm.

America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did. They quietly go about their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best.
They earned our respect and the freedoms that we all enjoy. Look around and see if you can find one of those heroes in your midst. Often, they are the ones you'd least suspect, but would most like to have on your side if anything ever happened.

Take the time to thank anyone that has fought for our freedom. With encouragement, they could be the next Captain Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers.

Send this on, will you please?
Nothing will happen to you if you don't, but if you do, you will be awakening others to what makes a HERO.

Car thank you so much for this little known most imspiring post.

I knew I liked Lees movies and the one time he sang " Wondering Star " ,[ one of my top five songs but didn't know about him or Mr Rogers war and who could ever imagine Mr Rogers being a Navy Seal? I saw alot of him with grandkids. :great::green man::Thankyou:
I'll have to tell my son about this if he doesn't alreadyknow.

Going through old family items...found some torn up pieces of newspaper with jokes on them, from the 50s or 60s, so keep that in mind when reading these clean humors.
Like this:
Today's Chuckle
Lovesick Engineer: "You said your heart belonged to me, yet every night I see you out with somebody else."
Beauteous Blonde: "Listen, Mac. My heart you can have. But the rest of me is gonna live it up for a while."

Ugh.

Be careful about calling yourself an expert.
After all, an "ex" is a has-been, and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure.

"What does your wife say when you stay out late?"
"Nothing...I'm not married."
"Then why do you stay out late?"

The free child care contracts my business gets from the state to cover child care expenses are written for a year. A number of parents quit their jobs after part of that time, but still use the contract without saying anything to the state. I get suspicious when they are dropping off their child and mom is in her pj's. These contracts are worth $500 a month, with mom only having to pay about $8 a week in gross receipts tax to me.
Then there's free medical and dental.
Then there's EBT.
Then if you want to go to school, there's PEL grant that will pay for school and living expenses (your rent and utilities and books) while you go to school.
In our state, it is not checked whether or not you are illegal or legal. It's typically updated once a year.

A reminder that one word in the English language can be a noun, verb, adjective, adverb and preposition.

UP

The two-letter word in English that has more meanings than any other two-letter word, is 'UP.' It is listed in the dictionary as an [adv.], [prep.], [adj.], [n] or [v].

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP?

At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP, and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends, brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and fix UP the old car.

At other times, this little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses.

To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP.

We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP!

To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look UP the word UP in the dictionary. In a full sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4 of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions.

If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more.

When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out, we say it is clearing UP. When it rains, the earth soaks itUP. When it does not rain for awhile, things dry UP. One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now...my time is UP!
Did that one crack you UP?

Don't screw UP. Send this on to everyone you look UP in your address book...

or not...it's UP to you.

Now I'll shut UP!

I do not need the governments permission or training to exercise my 2nd amendment rights.
Here in Washington there is no training or test required to own a gun or have a concealed pistol permit.
In my opinion there should not be a permit required to carry a concealed weapon.
How many gang bangers have government approved firearms training?

Sorry
I just realized this is suppose to be humor and jokes.
My apologies for going off topic.
