The only "Italian" food that I eat is an occasional pizza. I can guarantee that there's no bugs in it. Heck, it isn't even touched by a real Italian. I don't even know an Italian.
I married the grandson of one, does that count? We do a lot of Italian and never once has it called for bugs in the ingredients!

My hubby’s grandparents came to America from Italy. And I had the joy of growing up near several families who were direct from Italy. Those wonderful women taught me to cook Italian food very well. Hubby says my Italian is better than he had ever had prior. NO bugs belong in human food!!!

Probably. I thought I knew an Italian once, but he turned out to be Greek.
Several years ago on R&R I met my wife in Amsterdam and we flew to Italy for a couple of weeks. We had a great time and ate a lot of great food. I don't remember seeing a single bug.

Semi-related here- has anyone noticed the narrative around animals and the virtue signaling about breeding and animal welfare is infiltrating even farmers?

Animals shouldn't be mistreated, that I agree with, but I just got into a debate with a FARMER who said any time we use an animal to meet our needs, it is abusive.

....that's kind of the entire point of keeping livestock. And you all know what a softie I am when it comes to animals, so I am about the last person who would *actually* abuse an animal. I was too shocked to even tell her how stupid she was being and how little it made sense given her profession.

And when the heck did we start needing societal permission to breed a damn dog? I'm tired of seeing all the "adopt, don't shop" guilt trips and hearing about how terrible farm animals have it. They're animals, NOT PEOPLE! Most of these morons wouldn't think twice about abortion but think it's ghastly to keep a rabbit in a wire cage.

Sorry for the rant. I just think it is social conditioning to turn people against meat eaters and farmers, but it really irks me that some idiot farmers are jumping on board.

@Survivor_316 I'm guessing here that she only raises a garden to sell at the farmers market or maybe if she raises animals on her farm, dairy type for the milk only? But then if she did actually own animals on a small type farm like we do, she should know that they do really have a good life until we use them "to meet our needs". I am a big softy too! Some of the pigs and cows we have processed in the past, really does hurt my heart. I know when it's coming. I give them extra attention, a few more rubs, a their last special treat. . . some with tears. You make bonds with animal, some more than others but in the end, you know what fate is going to happen. That is just how it is on a farm.

She's a dairy farmer and breeds show rabbits & show chickens!

Her biggest complaints were breeding unregistered/crossbreed animals. But, to be honest, I tuned out of most of the conversation because it was nothing but a bunch of contradictions.

It made no sense. I got the feeling she was just regurgitating talking points about how bad "backyard breeders" are, how she can't believe people still use wire cages for their rabbits (anyone who has ever tried to keep an angora on a solid floor will understand wire cages! It is not healthy or safe for them on solid floors), and how we have plenty of "more ethical" ways of obtaining fiber than using angora- which shows she knows nothing about how angora is harvested.

She actually said it should be illegal to breed mixed breeds and she wished we had to licenses in this state to breed animals.

What a quack.
