Yes My Walesh and Irish blood thats been here since before there was a United States enjoys U.K history . Iv also been a fan of Bram Stoker's Novel since Childhood .
Bram Stoker, James Herriot, the Bronte Sisters etc all did their stuff in North Yorkshire.

It is amazing just how many people do NOT realise that Dracula is actually a LOVE story not a HORROR story. Millions of Brams fans visit Whitby and the Abbey. You have to be their at DUSK though.

The North Yorks Moors Railway runs from Whitby to Pickering so it takes in Dracula Country, Wuthering Heights Country and It should not happen to a Vet country. Oh and of course the famous TV series Heartbeat about a london cop who moved to Yorkshire.

SE, if you like trains, then next time in the States, you have to ride the City of New Orleans to New Orleans! The southern part of the route is the most rural. I've taken the City of New Orleans to New Orleans twice! Most spectacular dawn I've ever seen was over Lake Pontchartrain, although now the schedule is different. You can be in New Orleans by 12:47 pm, spend the afternoon, evening and next morning in New Orleans (maybe hook up with Rellgar while you are there) and then leave 1:45 pm the next day.

If you take it from Memphis, you'll go right through the Mississippi Delta, and pass within 10 miles of my BOL.

the problem with events like the Royal Wedding is that its blanket covering and trying to find REAL news is impossible, like has been said in the past " its a good day to bury bad news".

I want to try Cajun food just once.

The food there will blow your mind, I'm serious. Great thread, great photos....thanks....and if you would like to visit AZ, you'll have a welcome there as well.

Christ are they still running F Units on that RR they must be older than ME :) They sound lovely, My favourite RR locos are the EMDs GP /SD 38 /40 etc they just typify the transcontinental power of us railroads.

Thanks thats very kind, but if the rumours are true about the Federal Government monitoring forums I doubt if they will ever let me back in. My hostile coments about Bush and Blair and how they both should be hung probably ensures I'll not get a Visa any more :)
I note you are in Denver at the moment, loved that city back in the 80s, there used to be a great pub called the NO FRILLS GRILL in Englewood where we Brits used to gather. US steaks and British booze what a combination.

Those were some older videos of the train. Probably the one I rode as it was decades ago. In fact, I rode it right before the name was discontinued in 1971 for ten years (which is what the song alluded to at the end). It was resurrected in 1981, probably due to the notoriety created by the song. Here is the current City of New Orleans:

I think I can say that blows ass....that would certifiably piss me off.
Its happened to quite a few Europeans of assorted pedigrees, Book Tickets, Fill out Online Visa thing, Fill out other visa thing on plane, arrive in US, hand over passport at imigration desk. Button pressed two cops escort you away, tell you your not allowed into the US, then locked up until put on a plane back. more and more folks from US and UK no longer go on holiday to the US because they MAY have offended or triggered a red flag.

Oddly enough the most numerous large Diesel Locomotive in the UK is the US EMD Class 66 basically a SD40-2 cut down to UK loading gauge, we have hundreds of the buggers on our network now, they are loved for their reliability and availability. In the UK many of our locos are named as well as numbered, the blue 66 is called Forest City.

Diana was bumped off because she had a foreigner baby in her. Nearly 400 years since my ancestors came here from Wales, but still consider her my princess.

Miss Markle poses no such threat. As mentioned, she'll be treated like a brood mare.

they are all brood mares, they are there to produce the next generation and for no other reason.

erm if your a Welsh Merkin the Windsors, Wales, mountbattens etc are NOT your real Royalty. either Henry Vll or Owain Glydwr are your Royals. The Windsors are Germanic / Greek Royalty and not truly British Royals.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kings_of_Wales_family_trees

The REAL English Royals end with Henry 1 and begin with Alfred the Great ( or Arthur pendragon is your romantic of mind like me) House of Wessex in the south.

Phillip is Greek, the Windsors are all of Germanic strain, Queen Elisabeth was never meant to be Queen but that stupid idiot abdicated just before WW2 and put her Dad on the throne instead of his brother.

most of them were immigrants, from the Romans upwards to the Norman conquests, and that includes the Vikings in the 7th century, who established Danelaw in the northern part of the country.
Romans, Angles, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, take your pick.

You could have scored extra superb points by writing "Romans, Angles, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, take your Pict" te he.

funnily enough I was watching a programme this afternoon about the Roman cavalry stationed at Hadrians Wall.
