My gripe for the day is acid reflux and how my throat tends to tighten up and I can't swallow food or drink and it comes back up and I can't breathe and I end up choking and having to spit stuff up and it comes out my nose. Happened to me the other day and was so frustrating. I was able to eat most of a chicken thigh before things got stuck. I chewed thoroughly but the mucus and gas seemed to have blocked things. Had to keep belching and then coughing stuff up until things were clear enough for me to eat again.
Have you ever researched anything about GERD (gastroesophegeal reflux disease)? I might have spelled that incorrectly.
Kind of sounds like what you may have, it can progress to cancer. Otherwise, you can manage some symptoms with diet changes.
Please look into it. I know you take care of your mom but I wish you could take care of your needs too. Said kindly and with concern.

Patchouli, it's not something I have often. I think it was something I ate. I really do need to modify my diet though. I do very much appreciate the concern. Stress was another factor.

My brother won't be able to do much of anything for the next few weeks because he injured his achilles tendon somehow. He already does very little-- maybe helps with going and getting groceries and bringing them in and that's about it so I'm frustrated knowing he won't even be able to help with that. I understand that he needs to heal though, but its one more thing on my plate that I won't have help with. I've already been having to do his share of the chores before he was injured. His only chore was to take out trash but he just won't do it. He wouldn't even feed the cats and half of them are his cats. I love the kitties though. I'm hoping some day he will grow up. He has this fantasy that he's going to be able to move to Japan and his life will be perfect or something. Plans to leave all of his responsibilities here behind and thinks that he'll be able to manage on his own. He's in for a rude awakening when he learns that magical fairies don't wash his dishes, take out the trash, or do any household work. He has never in his life cleaned a toilet, tub, shower, sink, etc.

Meanwhile, Mom asked me to get her purse for her today because she needed something out of her wallet. Then she called me in to the room and said "Guess what I found!" and pulled out the envelope with her tax forms. It had been in her purse the entire friggin' time! I had even asked her to check her purse and she refused to look. She yelled at me, called me all sorts of names, blamed me, accused me of throwing them out or losing them, etc. I asked her if she was going to apologize to me and she said "No". At least the forms have been found and that mystery is solved, but I lost sleep and was super stressed out over all of that. I'm half miffed and half amused at the same time. I am also relieved. I'm vindicated and now know she was the derp who misplaced her own forms. I did tell her that if we worked on getting replacement forms that she'd find them. LOL.

I am going to remind her of this in the future if she ever accuses me of stuff again. LOL.

Ordered a new reel for my crappy/brim rod
The site says delivery in 3 days
Hey, I am on board with that. 👍
Then when I check out it says the 17th
That is 9 more days
It isnot the end of the world I simply do not like being jerked around

AC stopped working again. Compressor is running, fan is running and its making noise, but it is not cooling. It got up to 89°F in the house. So, I told it to go OFF and it wouldn't turn off. It just kept doing the same thing it was doing. I went and turned the breakers off and then back on and it immediately kicked back on even though I set it to OFF mode. Must be something not connected right between the unit and the thermostat. I do not do well with heat.

Alsol, Medicare is still refusing to approve Mom's insulin pump. At one point they approved and then they reneged and I was told they just needed A1C and then I was told they need other info... Ugh.

May need to just give up the idea of getting an insulin pump and figure out something different to do or have Mom get different insulin. Although, that is probably what Medicare wants. They don't want to have to pay for stuff so they make it as difficult as possible in the hopes people will give up and not get stuff.

Just got another text message from the supply place and Medicare wants to know how often she injects or if she's on an insulin pump. The RX is for an insulin pump. I told the supply place "Well, she'd be on an insulin pump already if Medicare wasn't being asinine". The info on how often she injects, that she is on Dexcom G7, etc has all been submitted to them already, but they are acting like that info isn't valid and all of it had to be resubmitted with the most recent appointment she had. Ugh.

I just got another text message saying that since she doesn't check her sugar 4x a day (which is BS bc she has a CGM that checks it constantly) and doesn't inject 3x a day that she doesn't qualify for insurance to cover the insulin pump. But they ignore that the 2x a day she takes insulin is with a delayed release insulin that lasts 12 hours. So it does a continuous release and her pancreas isn't producing enough insulin. So the 12 hour slow release is the equivalent of injecting more than 2x a day.

I'm going to have to find the contact info for Medicare and proverbially light a fire under their butts on this.

Today my new computer arrived! I have been having issues where I post something and then my browser dies... Trying to download any files that I may need to go forward before jumping machines. I'm hoping the whole system doesn't crash before I get the files saved. The new computer does not have any cables and I have to get new monitor cables for it to work in my setup... It looks like I will have to buy a new copy of office, hate giving MS a dime....

I may be grumpy,

Urban, having to set up a new computer is such a pita. And having to get all new software is also a pain. I have a Microsoft 360 annual account so it transfers from one computer to another and can cover multiple family members.

I'm still miffed about the whole insulin pump thing. I'm also waiting on some Amazon orders that I didn't realize were coming from China. Ordered them last month and am still waiting. One shows it is still in China and two have made it over to the US.

I don't know if this a rant, but it's the only place I though this would fit.

I'm approaching retirement and I have some money in the stock market (not a lot, but some). Anyway I'm always afraid of getting caught flat footed like I did in the dot com bubble. Today, the S&P reached a record high and I decided to jump into cash. My reasoning is simple, the S&P has had a steady climb of months, and I figure it's due for a fall. But then I watched "The Big Short" this weekend and it made me think more. So the evening I looked at the housing market charts, the chart leading up to 2007 and the chart to date are almost the same (today's are steeper). It makes me wonder if we are primed for a big fall sometime between now and December. My thinking is that things always get crazy during an election year, and the Government has been passing out money like a Senator at a strip club... No matter who wins, I think the bar-tab is about to come due...

I figure there are a lot of smart people here and by openly sharing my opinion they can point out any faulty reasoning on my part....
Do you have a financial advisor?

I may be grumpy,
Libreoffice, Public Domain. Takes some getting used to, but it works well.

I pay people to watch that stuff, cause I got ZERO background and skills there. 9 years after retirement, no SS, we still have more than we started with.

I watched my FIL lose his ass in the market, cause he was that smart in the market :p

What kinda reel did you get?

My last 2 have been Plueger's. I really like them. I most always used Diawa's before that.
Abu Garcia MaxX Spinner. #5 and am putting it on a 11' jig pole
I am getting it to catch Brim. Aka Breem

Never used a plunger
Every Diawa I have used has been sweet reels. The Garcia is a great little Reel for the money.

A near disaster!

I went looking for some ice cream on the designated ice cream shelf. Only one carton and the rest was filled with frozen broccoli. That is just plain wrong! I did manage to get the chocolate syrup drippings rinsed of my beard.

Scrabble releases ‘less competitive,’ more ‘inclusive’ version of game to appeal to Gen Z
The new version will reportedly be 'easier' and 'more inclusive'

Great. "Scrabble for Idiots". Maybe they can call it "Scribble"? Participation trophies rather than score cards. The one board game that I actually like. Next they'll be pushing to get the medical terms for their sexual lobotomies added to the Official Scrabble Dictionary - "Addadictomy" and "Lopitoffomy".

Today is day 7 of me being "sick" .. I don't feel bad, but went from sore throat to losing my voice to dry cough. My chest hurts, I'm tired of coughing, I want to be able to talk again. LOL. Silver lining.. I don't feel bad.

Glad to see you, was hoping you didn't quit us!! Stick around 😉😃♥️

Oh wow, zannej! I have the same issue and really didn't relate it to my acid reflux. My dad used to have to go have his esophagus stretched because he would get stuff stuck and have to leave the table to either work it down or spit it up. Now I have the same issue and was thinking it was just genetic, but hmm... acid reflux makes sense! Mostly happens to me with meat, rice, bread, .. hubby says I eat too fast. *shrug

Thanks, Frodo, but I think I want to see if we can get the pump through insurance so we can make sure the replacement cannulas and insulin are covered as well. The RN who specializes in diabetes will show her how to use the one that pairs with her dexcom. I actually like the Honeywell "smart" thermostat. It lets me change settings without getting up from my bed. LOL. I think the issue may be with the air handler rather than the thermostat. Funny story about Honeywell: They offered my sister a job when she graduated from college but she was already interning at Sandia Labs. Honeywell offered her more $. She told Sandia what Honeywell offered and they counter offered with more. So she stuck with them. I think Honeywell bought Sandia now.

It could also be achalasia. A friend of mine had to have surgery to correct it. And that can be genetic. Basically the esophagus tightens too much and makes swallowing difficult.

Meanwhile, power went out for a few hours today. It is too warm in my room and I need to fix the vent thingy in my ceiling. It has no chain to keep the flap open to let air flow through the duct. Also, Mom is getting stressed about her sugar levels now that she can watch them constantly and is not patient enough to wait for her insulin to kick in. Because she took too much her sugar got down to 22. I was having to stuff things in her mouth and she was arguing with me and being combative. I had to go take something to my brother at his work and while I was there she called and said her sugar was too high and she wanted to take more insulin and I told her to only take a very small dose and that I would prefer if she waited until I got back so it didn't drop too low while I was gone. When I got home she yelled at me that it was my fault her sugar was high because I told her not to take insulin. We then argued about what I actually said to her. She also pulled the thing where she said she was starting to get hungry. I asked if she wanted me to get her something to eat and she said her sugar was too high. So I went to my room to lie down because my hips/back are hurting. She then called me and started angrily asking when I was going to get her something to eat. She claimed she'd asked me to make her something but she never did. I got up and made it though. Not a new thing- she has been doing this my whole life. Just doesn't communicate and expects people to read her mind.

She was losing it thinking she had to mail stuff to the LA IRS and was blaming me for her state taxes not being filed yet and she was freaking out bc she didn't get an email about her federal taxes being accepted. So, I searched for HR Block in her email and found the confirmation for them being accepted and moved those emails to a new folder I created called Tax Stuff. I then had to file her state taxes for her. They charged $19.99 to file electronically and tacked on 10.45% tax on the filing fee. But its paid and we will see if it is accepted.

But my brother still has not received his correct W2 forms from his workplace. I need to get on him about that tomorrow.
