With more skimming and reading… what about the Christian Crusaders??? Weren’t they as evil as those they opposed?

And then there’s King Richard the Lionheart…
https://chertseytiles.holycross.edu/crusades/who-is-richard-the-lionheart/

Richard’s exploits as king and knight, particularly his history of violence against non-Christians during his reign, have earned him both fame and infamy from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Clip title is: … Let’s find an honest man scene
King Richard the Lionheart did, and he didn’t like him.

Edit: Sure it’s just a movie scene, but there’s gotta be some truth in it.

And BTW: I was Robin Hood in another life. 😆

The reason I call it a fallacy as it assume the primacy of the need and benefit of fire in the first place. On a large timescale we as humans do not know the totality of the outcome of "playing with fire" as it were, and if the result is catastrophic... we've been duped by the trickster eh?

Indeed.

We are hampered by a huge problem.....we don't know what the point of life is.

It's like playing a game of chess on an infinitely large board, we have figured out many of rules....but we don't know how many rules there are, or all the kinds of pieces...

And we don't know how the game is 'won'. We can make moves that keep more of our pieces alive, and take enemy pieces....and try to look into the future and think a few moves ahead.....but we don't actually know what winning the game would look like, so we can't come up with any long term strategies.

For all we know, fire IS a trick.

Perhaps my biggest problem with religion, is not just the lack of any evidence for the various deities.....but let's say we believe they are real without question....

How do we know who the good guys really are? How do we know it's not a trick? Because we don't know what the end goal is for ourselves....we only have the 'word' of various angels, prophets, etc.

We have no way to 'fact check' our great philosophies.

The human condition at its core is indeed uncertainty.

Infact uncertainty is the only plausible absolute certainty. Which creates a big problem imo.

Practically speaking I'm happy with margins of likelihood given the "truths" we tend to operate in assumption of, things do make quite a bit of sense when you assemble all the puzzle pieces in a coherent fashion- but if we're truly honest with our selves there is always an underlying uncertainty in our conclusions and even our basic perceptions. Which, as much as people hate to admit- means everyone has to take at least  some leap of faith In order to make any kind of decision.
